The goal here is to push Republicans to the left. More people need to be aware of this. [Snip] A company run by a liberal billionaire dubbed by some as the “next George Soros” employs former senior Republican staffers on Capitol Hill in what a watchdog group warns is an effort to sway GOP lawmakers to move to the left. Arnold Ventures LLC is a private company founded by left-leaning philanthropists John Arnold and his wife Laura, who have a net worth of $3.3 billion, according to Forbes.

It was Valentine's Day in 1984 when they skated to victory at the Sarajevo Winter Olympics, winning the gold medal and earning the highest ever score for a single performance. And now, 40 years later, Jayne Torvill, 66, and Christopher Dean, 65, are hanging up their skates for good as they have announced their retirement. The British skating duo will embark on one final UK tour next year, which will be their swansong and mark 50 years since they formed their skating partnership in 1975.

Filming has secretly started on a new series of Downton Abbey. The period drama--the last episode of which was aired a little over eight years ago--is making a surprise comeback in a seventh series. Bosses hoped to be able to bring back some of the big name actors such as Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern and Joanne Froggatt who appeared in the previous six seasons and two movie spin-offs. While it is not known if all of them have signed up, chiefs are said to be 'thrilled' with their casting.

Legal Insurrection readers may recall that a state water official delayed the release of water that landowners wanted to help protect their property from fires because water is to be revered and not used. Additionally, Hawaiian green energy mandates may have led Hawaiian Electric to divert fiscal resources away from fire-prevention practices. [Snip] “The 100 individuals that were lost all had families, and we have put together $175 million, if they choose, in a voluntary way, to accept a settlement of $1.5 million that would go to each family,” Green said.

Today is the anniversary of the birth of America’s great or greatest president, Abraham Lincoln. As a politician and as president, Lincoln was a profound student of the Constitution and constitutional history. Perhaps most important, Lincoln was America’s indispensable teacher of the moral ground of political freedom at the exact moment when the country was on the threshold of abandoning what he called its “ancient faith” that all men are created equal.

In an unusual session held on Super Bowl Sunday, the US Senate voted to move forward a substantial $95 billion aid package that will support Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, with no southern border security provisions.[Snip]On Monday morning, Trump-supporting Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) posted a stunning report on X. According to Senator Vance, the Senate funding package includes language that makes it impossible for President Trump to terminate the Ukraine War funding into his second term.[Snip]“Buried in the bill’s text is an impeachment time bomb for the next Trump presidency if he tries to stop funding the war in Ukraine. We must vote against this disastrous bill,” Sen. Vance wrote.

WXIX-TV [Newport, KY] - Hamilton, OH Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones is calling on state lawmakers to pass legislation allowing law enforcement to file felony charges against anyone in Ohio who is an illegal immigrant, similar to a controversial measure in Texas. He also is calling for: A full-time state cybersecurity czar to protect government entities from terror attacks through hacking; A task force to secure Ohio’s northern border. Sheriff Jones says there is now an influx of drugs and weapons coming into America through the Canadian border because more manpower and resources have been moved to the southern borders in Texas and Arizona.

Up to 775,992,000 bacteria-infected mosquitoes could be released in Maui every week for the next 20 years, according to Hawaii Unites, an environmental advocacy group that last month lost its bid to require the state to conduct an environmental impact statement before allowing the controversial project to proceed.[Snip]According to Lia, the U.S. Department of the Interior provided more than $30 million for the avian malaria phase of the state’s plan. The project also has secured more than $14 million from the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act enacted in 2021 and an additional $16 million through President Joe Biden’s 2023

Key members of the since-disbanded Select Committee on January 6th admit in a new PBS documentary that the entire operation was an election-year publicity stunt. On Wednesday, Frontline PBS published a new documentary, “Democracy on Trial,” chronicling the House committee’s work. Pivotal players on the partisan probe conceded in the two-and-half-hour documentary that the panel’s public performances produced for prime-time television were orchestrated as entertainment media. “The one thing that we knew was the information that we have is compelling,” said Illinois congressman-turned CNN commentator Adam Kinzinger. In a recent episode of “American Thought Leaders,” host Jan Jekielek sits down with Emmy Award-winning reporter Liz Collin, author of “They’re Lying: The Media, the Left, and the Death of George Floyd” and producer of the new narrative-busting documentary, “The Fall of Minneapolis.” Ms. Collin breaks down what really happened the day George Floyd died, what the media left out, and what evidence was withheld at the trial. [Snip] You have George Floyd resistant from the beginning, talking about how he can’t breathe long before Derek Chauvin even arrives on scene.

The awarding of nearly $90 million to the second-rate advice columnist E. Jean Carroll will doubtless be remembered for generations as the greatest miscarriage of justice in contemporary American history. Jean Carroll’s case was not just ludicrous on the face of it, but between the judge, the “experts” who testified, and the mechanisms by which the case even came to be, it’s impossible for any ordinary person in the West to see this as anything more than the continuation of a series of hoaxes perpetrated on former President Donald J. Trump with the desire to keep him from re-entering the Oval Office in January 2025.

Donald Trump gave one of his best and most conciliatory speeches of his political career after his win in the recent Iowa primaries--that might explain why the media would not cover it. Later, to answer an ad hoc ambush reporter’s question whether he would hold grudges, he emphatically said he did not.[Snip]More importantly, the country is imploding in 2024 in a way it was not in 2020, when there was still a border, deterrence abroad, coherent energy policies, deterrent police, and a semblance of the rule of law.[Snip]Trump has an enormous responsibility in 2024 to stay calm, reach out, and get even rather than mad.
Comments:
Having had the privilege of seeing their live performance of “Bolero” while touring the States many years ago, and watching the video of that original performance at the Winter Olympics in 1984 embedded within the article, still brings a sense of awe in their beautiful choreography, grace, athleticism, and enduring friendship through the years. May grace and blessings be in their retirement path.
