Former President Donald Trump on Monday asked the Supreme Court to step into the charged dispute over whether he may claim immunity from prosecution, once again pressing the nine justices to resolve a question that could undermine his campaign for a second term.
Trump asked the Supreme Court to temporarily block a scathing and unanimous decision from the DC Circuit handed down last week that flatly rejected his claims of immunity from election subversion charges brought by special counsel Jack Smith.
“Conducting a months-long criminal trial of President Trump at the height of election season will radically disrupt President Trump’s ability to campaign against President Biden,” Trump’s attorneys wrote in their request.

Police in Houston, Texas have identified the shooter who opened fire at Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church on Sunday as Genesse Ivonne Moreno, Fox News has confirmed.
Moreno, who has a lengthy criminal record and was born as a man – Jeffrey Escalante – from El Salvador, was killed after off-duty police officers at the church responded to the incident.
A search warrant said Moreno pointed an AR-15 at the officers who then fired upon her and killed her in self-defense. The message "Free Palestine" also was written on the rifle used in the attack, investigators said. As a man, the 36-year-old Moreno has a criminal history including convictions for assaulting

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden has been venting his frustration in recent private conversations, some of them with campaign donors, over his inability to persuade Israel to change its military tactics in the Gaza Strip, and he has named Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as the primary obstacle, according to five people directly familiar with his comments.
Biden has said he is trying to get Israel to agree to a cease-fire, but Netanyahu is “giving him hell” and is impossible to deal with, said the people familiar with Biden’s comments, who all asked not to be named.
“He just feels like this is enough,”

For decades, Westerners were deeply concerned about South African apartheid. The pressure the West put on that nation finally led to apartheid’s end in the early 1990s. However, a new and very ugly apartheid movement is emerging in South Africa, and no one in the West seems interested in talking about it. This time, it’s whites who are in the crosshairs, and genocide is on the menu, with a radical black communist party poised to become the majority in South Africa’s Parliament.
While the end of apartheid was ripe with promise, the fly in the ointment was always going to be communism. Thanks to the non-stop communist rule of South Africa’s

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hollywood is experiencing a disastrous winter. People aren’t going to the movies, opting instead to stay home. Obviously, part of the issue is streaming, which has upended the old business model. However, one cannot ignore the fact that today’s movies are awful, whether because they’re mechanical, recycled garbage, or because they’re preachy, painfully woke garbage. Watching a couple of movies from 51 and 50 years ago, respectively, will help you appreciate just how bad most modern movies really are.
Here’s the news from The Hollywood Reporter:
Domestic box office revenue year-to-date of $581.2

RAFAH, Gaza Strip — A series of Israeli strikes early Monday hit Rafah, the city on the southern edge of the Gaza Strip where 1.4 million Palestinians have fled to escape fighting elsewhere in the four-month Israel-Hamas war. Israel has been signalling its ground offensive in Gaza may soon target the densely populated city on the Egyptian border. On Sunday, the White House said U.S. President Joe Biden had warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel should not conduct a military operation against Hamas in Rafah without a “credible and executable” plan to protect civilians.

A special force of the Israeli military conducted an overnight mission and rescued two Israeli hostages held captive by Hamas in the southernmost Gazan city of Rafah, IDF officials said early on Monday.
The two hostages, identified as Fernando Marman, 61, and Louis Har, 70, were found to be in good condition and were transferred for medical examination to the Sheba Tel Hashomer hospital in Ramat Gan in Israel, officials told Haaretz. Marman and Har had been kidnapped from the Nir Yitzhak kibbutz during the October 7 attacks.
Forces from the Israel Security Agency, the Israeli police, and the IDF conducted the operation around 1 a.m. local time, a joint statement

One can only think the White House wanted this news to go unnoticed, seeing as it's breaking right in the middle of the Super Bowl.
But it is news: John Kirby, previously of the wordy title "United States National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications," is getting promoted and will have an expanded role at the White House, officials told Reuters. It sounds like he will have direct access to President Biden:
Kirby, who in past years has served as the top spokesperson at both the Pentagon and the State Department, will have a new title - White House national security communications adviser - and will be elevated

Pop music superstar Usher Raymond gave a wonderful Super Bowl half-time show on Sunday wherein he performed several of his greatest hits, primarily from his 2004 album “Confessions” and even honored God.
Early in the performance during a transition, Usher told the hundreds of millions watching that “Only God answers prayers.”
“It doesn’t matter what they say, only God answers prayers,” he said.
Fans celebrated the moment on social media: Usher kept the show entirely apolitical and closed on his beloved smash hit “Yeah!”

The finer details behind Donald Trump's plan to deport millions of illegal immigrants are starting to emerge.
In a report published Sunday evening, Axios outlined how Trump plans to use the power of the state to forcibly deport millions of people with no legal right to be in the United States. The outlet noted:
Donald Trump's plan to crack down on immigration includes using a range of tools to deport millions of people in the U.S. each year — from obscure laws to military funds to law enforcement officers from all levels of government.
History tells us such an effort would dramatically disrupt local communities and economies

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an interview released Sunday that “enough” of the Israeli hostages captured by Hamas in its October 7 onslaught are still alive to justify Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
Netanyahu told ABC’s This Week program that “enough” hostages are alive in Hamas territory “to warrant the kind of efforts that we’re doing.”
“We’re going to try to do our best to get all those who are alive back and, frankly, also the bodies of the dead,” he added.
Netanyahu, after noting that one Palestinian civilian has been killed for every Hamas terrorist, assured that the Israeli military is trying to minimize civilian casualties.
