Dartmouth College will restore its SAT requirement for admissions beginning with the Class of 2029, making it the first Ivy League university to reinstate the testing requirement after doing away with it after Covid.
In an email to the university community, Dartmouth president Sian Beilock wrote that the decision to reimplement the standardized test was made in response to a faculty study which found that “standardized test scores are an important predictor of a student’s success in Dartmouth’s curriculum” regardless of a “student’s background or family income.”

It will be fun to watch what happens when Darmouth and MIT graduates are preferred over Harvard by employers.

A revelation that is unexpected but actually welcome and makes sense. In contrast to other previously well respected higher education names.

Glad to see my alma mater (which, as its name indicates, is a College and not a University) has finally showed leadership and -- if only for now -- is venturing off of the PC/woke path it has been on for decades.

Haha, I guess the proper word is "shown" (not "showed"). Thanks Dartmouth!

I'm guessing the professors were appalled at the lack of preparedness in the classes admitted without standardized test scores. A top graduate of an inner-city school where most students are functionally illiterate and can't do basic math isn't college material.

Oh,my goodness.....you mean letting people into college based on MERIT? What a novel idea.
Can that work? Why had no one thought of this previously?

It appears that this will begin with the freswhman enrollees next year. Other dolleges and universities will follow rather than getting the dregs.. A good thing.

I would think by 2029 any prospective student, that can pass
the entrance exams, will probably be able to cypher that any degree is expensive and useless.

How screwy are these Ivy schools? They had these great reputations, then they let people in who don't belong there grade-wise, go by skin color, then promote thesis cheaters on up to president. I used to think there were a lot of brains there!

There is something very odd about this and I will tell you what it is. An entirely different version of the SAT is rolling out next month. If Dartmouth studied this and concluded the SAT is their best predictor of Freshman success, their study would had to have used a version of the SAT no one is taking anymore. A lot of my fellow conservatives blindly support standardized testing, thinking it supports a meritocracy. But that conclusion is deeply flawed.

Applicants can't be compared without test scores. There is rampant grade inflation in many high schools. Class rank also depends on the student population overall.

Know someone who scored 1500 on their SAT. She is the liberal offspring of liberal parents so, naturally, see applied to all the big liberal woke universities across the nation. She could not get in any of them. She tried to get a merit scholarship and they all turned her down. All scholarship had race requirements. In the end, she got into a big local college in her home state. Personally, I view that as a blessing in disguise.
