Someday in the not too distant future, it might no longer be possible to drive a brand-new car faster than 80 mph in California. That's because state senator Scott Wiener earlier this week proposed a new bill that aims to prevent certain new vehicles from going more than 10 mph over the speed limit. (snip) SB 961 that was published Tuesday, (snip) essentially calls for speed governors on new cars and trucks built or sold in California starting with the 2027 model year. These vehicles would be required to have an "intelligent speed limiter system" that electronically prevents the driver from speeding above the aforementioned threshold.

Somalian refugee Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) gave a speech to the Somali community in Minnesota on Saturday that has gone viral thanks to English translation subtitles. The translations have Omar saying she and her fellow Somalis are Somali first and Muslim second–with no mention of being American. Omar also said she represents Somalia in Congress and told the audience that they control the U.S. government’s Somalia policy.
Outraged Americans called for Omar’s expulsion from the House of Representatives.

Republican presidential candidate frontrunner former President Donald Trump said the deaths of three American soldiers in Jordan “marks a horrible day for America,” and slammed President Joe Biden’s weak foreign policy.
“The drone attack on a U.S. Military Installation in Jordan, killing 3 American Servicemembers, and wounding many more, marks a horrible day for America. My most profound sympathies go to the Families of the Brave Servicemembers we have lost. I ask all Americans to join me in praying for those who have been wounded,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Former President Donald Trump’s legal team plans to appeal the $83.3 million decision in the defamation lawsuit from E. Jean Carroll due to an alleged “insane” conflict of interest with the presiding judge.
As Breitbart News reported Friday, a jury awarded “an additional $83.3 million to former advice columnist E. Jean Carroll, who says former President Donald Trump damaged her reputation by calling her a liar after she accused him of sexual assault.” “The verdict was delivered Friday by a seven-man, two-woman jury in a trial regularly attended by Trump, who abruptly left the courtroom during closing arguments by Carroll’s lawyer, only to later return,” the report added.

HONG KONG – A Hong Kong court on Monday ordered property developer China Evergrande Group to liquidate after it was unable to reach a restructuring deal with creditors.
Judge Linda Chan said it was appropriate for the court to order Evergrande to wind up its business given a “lack of progress on the part of the company putting forward a viable restructuring proposal” as well as Evergrande’s insolvency. Evergrande was granted a brief reprieve in December after it said it was attempting to “refine” a new debt restructuring plan of more than $300 billion in liabilities.

Saturday night, three US servicemen were killed and at least 25 wounded; that number seems sure to grow by about 10 in a drone attack on a US base in Jordan called Tower 22. Since that attack happened, Joe Biden has come under considerable political pressure for key members of the GOP to do something. Our bases have been attacked at least 158 times since the Israel-Hamas War started on October 7. Until today, the number of wounded stood at over 70, the only fatality being an American contractor. Bits of information are beginning to circulate. These two cities are in the primary Iranian-controlled area of Syria.

With the news of three American soldiers killed and at least 25 injured in Jordan on Sunday, President Joe Biden now finds himself in a worse position than the one he criticized his predecessor, former President Donald Trump, for in 2020.
As the then-former vice president was campaigning against Trump in January 2020, he criticized Trump for U.S. troops in Iraq suffering traumatic brain injuries caused by an Iranian missile attack and dismissing the injuries as minor.

President Trump has been robbed of his freedom of speech. None of this has happened by accident. There has always been a political purpose behind the laws and the indictments and the extortion.[Snip]One of the great mythic stories from Middle Ages is that of Robin Hood, who was an outlaw on the run in Sherwood Forest with his merry men. Those men are now Rudy Giuliani and the rest of the Trump team who have been indicted.[Snip]The whole process has proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the justice system now exists to oppress Trump, oppress his family, oppress his closest associates, and oppress his supporters.

It’s a little sad because we’re seeing a man incapable of doing the job, had no businesses running for it, and has zero political skill to keep the various voter groups he needs for re-election together because his domestic agenda is a loser. As I reported previously, Joe Biden had a wild time during his visit to South Carolina on Saturday.
They did have him make a formal speech in a suit, and that didn't go over well. He had some severe and scary incoherent moments. But perhaps the worst thing was when he freaked out and started screaming about President Donald Trump and the "suckers" and "losers" hoax, claiming that Trump refused to go to a cemetery that included WWII American soldiers in France. That was untrue; it was a visit canceled because of bad weather and several advisors debunked the claim about "suckers" and "losers." During his rant,

It was jam-packed with incoherence and weirdness, including Biden going to a black barbershop, pandering, and making a weird comment to a man about how if Biden had him blocking for him, he could have been an All-American. He also freaked out and started screaming about former President Donald Trump spreading the false story that Trump refused to go to Aisne-Marne American cemetery with American WWII dead and called our fallen soldiers "suckers" and "losers." Not only has that been debunked, but Biden even mentioned his son, as though his son were one of the people buried there,

I’ll put it bluntly: Joe Biden is a failed president. He clearly had an opportunity to position himself to do bigger things, but he overlooked or missed that opportunity altogether. Instead, Biden chose to highlight two issues — climate and equity — but could not deliver on them, and throughout his presidency, he has shepherded an administration with an overarching theme of division. In short, Biden hasn’t provided the American people with sound reasons to stay the course beyond his demonizing Donald Trump, the likely Republican to challenge him again.

The photo, which shows Biden wearing (a) hard hat backwards, was included in the Snopes article that first called the story false.

And just like that, Canada’s storied Liberal Party, in power for one hundred years, the country's self-described "natural governing party," is done. Before the ruling this week, Pierre Polievre’s Conservatives were projected to win 222 seats, according to Angus Reid's January 21st poll, with the Liberals at 53 seats.
