The lengths to which Democrats will go to toe the progressive line never ceases to amaze. Things like tradition and normalcy are not only cast aside but are treated as if they never existed in the first place. Vice President Kamala Harris, ever the producer of awkward public proclamations, illustrated that dynamic perfectly on Sunday evening. It wasn't just any Sunday evening, of course. Rather, it was December 24th, otherwise known to essentially all human beings as Christmas Eve. Well, unless you're Kamala Harris. Then it's some mishmash of holidays that shall not be named. I’ve never had a problem with “Happy Holidays” as a general greeting this time of year. It’s inclusive and easier to express than Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy Hanukkah and now Happy made up Kwanza holiday.

I always explain to people who don't like it that the word "holidays" is a contraction of "holy days," the 12 days of Christmas with such feasts as Christmas itself, St. Stephen, Holy Innocents, the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple through Epiphany. So when someone says "Happy Holidays" they are unknowingly saying to celebrate the Roman Catholic (and Anglican) feasts between Christmas and Epiphany. The term is every bit as religious as Christmas which is merely a contraction of Christ's Mass, the mass celebrating the birth of Christ.

How about Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays?

I insist on saying "Merry Christmas." It is Christmas that I celebrate, NOT "holidays." I sense that "Merry Christmas" has become a political statement, though. Too bad for those who are offended... suck it up and "Merry Christmas" to all!

So go to Wakanda and celebrate Kwanzaa by having a couple of joints with your pork rinds and red beans. We will not be offended.

Non-religious progressive liberals often say happy holidays. I've run across this. It includes more than just Christians and also New Years. Many businesses say that also due to there being various traditions celebrating during the relative same time, and as a business decision they choose to be inclusive and not offend, deeming saying "Merry Christmas" alienates other days.

Its a moot point, IMO. Christ wasnt born on Dec 25th. He was probably born on Sept 11th at the Feast of Trumpets. Its hard to figure out the year, but it might have been 3BC. So, say whatever you want to say or say nothing. It doesnt matter unless the government decides to adjust the speech to suit themselves.

I’m happy to leave historical particulars to Biblical scholars. For Christians Christmas is a joyful holy-day second only to Easter in significance.
I’m content to wish people Happy Passover, Easter, Christmas and so on. Kwanzaa and Festivus belong somewhere else.
But I dare Ms Harris to drape herself in Kente cloth and say “Happy Holidays.”

I say Merry Christmas and I have never had anyone who got angry at me for saying it.
If they ever do it won't bother me a bit.

Have you noticed that when Easter comes around, though, mentioning the word is no problem? I notice this particularly in the supermarket weekly inserts... "Easter" appears freely in print where "Christmas" never would be.
