Former Obama adviser David Axelrod suggested it may be "wise" for President Biden to drop out of the 2024 race, on the heels of a brutal new poll which found him losing to former President Trump by up to 10 points in five battleground states he won in 2020. (Snip) The poll's findings prompted Axelrod to ask if it was in the country's "best interest" for the president to be the Democratic Party's nominee, with the risk of Trump defeating him in 2024. "Only @JoeBiden can make this decision. If he continues to run, he will be the nominee of

SAN FRANCISCO — The Northern District of California courthouse where David DePape will stand trial this week is unfriendly territory. The conspiracy-obsessed man charged in the hammer attack on the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in their hilltop mansion faces decades in prison. The trial venue is two miles from the couple’s home, in a courthouse named for the longtime congressperson’s mentor and in a city where she won her last election with overwhelming support. “Nancy Pelosi is a loved and revered public servant in San Francisco,” noted Valery Nechay, a local criminal trial attorney who is following

CHICAGO — Sophee Langerman was on her way to a bicycle safety rally in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood in June when a car turning right rolled through a red light and slammed into her bike, which she was walking off the curb and into the crosswalk. The car was moving slowly enough that Langerman escaped serious injury, but the bicycle required extensive repairs. To Langerman, it’s another argument for ending a practice that almost all U.S. cities have embraced for decades: the legal prerogative for a driver to turn right after stopping at a red light. A dramatic rise in accidents

Next week's off-year elections could provide a preview of 2024 for President Joe Biden, regardless of whether he faces former President Donald Trump in 12 months. Besides Gov. Andy Beshear's (D-KY) gubernatorial campaign, Ohio's abortion referendum, and Pennsylvania's state Supreme Court race, it is Virginia's general assembly elections that could prove to be the most predictive for next year. That is because of their potential to be an indictment on Biden's presidency amid speculation Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) is considering a last-minute bid for the Republican nomination — and there are no plans for the incumbent to stump there. Biden appearing

DETROIT – The investigation into the murder of Samantha Woll, a well-known leader in Detroit’s Jewish community, is entering its third week, and there are still many questions surrounding the case. Detroit police said last week that several persons of interest had been identified in the Oct. 21 killing of Woll, but no singular suspect has been publicly identified or charged as of Thursday. Authorities did share some information with the public last week regarding the evidence they’ve uncovered so far and provided a small update this week on the investigation. Samantha Woll, who also went by Sam, was stabbed

The final poll conducted by Emerson College has Kentucky's gubernatorial race in a dead heat. The poll, which surveyed 1,000 likely voters or those who have already voted, found incumbent Governor Andy Beshear and Attorney General Daniel Cameron with 47% support. 2% support someone else, and 4% are undecided. Among undecided voters, Cameron holds a slight advantage, according to the poll, with 49% support compared to Beshear's 48%. "Cameron appears to have gained ground by consolidating Republican voters who supported former President Donald Trump in the 2020 election," said Spencer Kimball, Executive Director of Emerson College Polling. "In October

The admission by Ukraine's top general that the war has reached a "stalemate" is simply a recognition, in some senses, of the reality on the ground and something we and others have already been reporting. However, General Valery Zaluzhny's recent comments in The Economist will likely be used by House Republicans who are opposed to continued U.S. military aid for Ukraine amid their war with Russia. (Snip) "Stalemate" headlines risk fueling the notion that the deadlock cannot be broken by a continuous supply of Western weaponry. However, holding Russia back and ensuring Ukraine survives as a state remains the central

WASHINGTON - Rep. George Santos easily survived a vote Wednesday to expel him from the House as most Republicans and 31 Democrats opted to withhold punishment while both his criminal trial and a House Ethics Committee investigation proceed. The effort to kick Santos out of the House was led by his fellow New York Republicans, who are anxious to distance themselves from a colleague infamous for fabricating his life story and accused of stealing from donors, lying to Congress and receiving unemployment benefits he did not deserve. But the resolution failed to gain the required two-thirds vote. Supporters could not even

Democratic California Rep. Adam Schiff has reportedly been living in Maryland for two decades, documents that surfaced Wednesday showed. Mortgage records revealed Schiff claimed his 3,420 square foot property in Maryland as his primary residence, according to CNN. The congressman also reportedly claimed his 650 square foot condo in Burbank, California, as his primary residence to reduce his $7,000 tax bill. (Snip) Along with public records and past comments, pictures previously shared on his public social media indicate Schiff’s main residence is at his Maryland property, CNN noted. The Maryland home was reportedly listed as Schiff’s primary residence in 2003

President Biden's administration is working on a strategy to combat Islamophobia in the U.S. amid Israel's ongoing war against Hamas. The Biden administration said it has already taken steps to protect Jewish students at college campuses across the country. The White House had hoped to announce similar action for Muslim Americans, but the move was met with skepticism from Muslim leaders, two sources briefed on the matter told The Associated Press. Footage and reports of antisemitic incidents have exploded in the weeks following Hamas' Oct. 7 massacre in Israel, particularly on college campuses. Dozens of student groups have sought to

Dalia Al-Aqidi, an Iraqi-born Muslim immigrant to the United States, is running in the Republican Party primary election, hoping to clinch that party’s nomination to challenge Congresswoman Ilhan Omar for Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District seat. Fleeing Saddam Hussein’s regime, Al-Aqidi sought refuge in the United States in 1993 and has since become a distinguished journalist and activist. Over the years, she worked with various news outlets, including Voice of America and Al-Arabiya, and served as a media adviser to the US Department of Defense in Iraq. After observing what she considers to be divisive rhetoric from Rep. Omar, Al-Aqidi decided

Judge Tanya Chutkan, tasked with presiding over some of the cases of January 6 defendants, handed her latest blow to a capitol rioter on Tuesday, giving the defendant 14 days in jail. (Snip) Stacey Stephens, a 57-year-old, is one of more than 1,146 people who were charged concerning their presence at the grounds that day. Stephens, who pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, entering or remaining on restricted grounds and demonstrating in a Capitol building, was charged last August after the FBI interviewed Stephens and told agents that she and her mother, Linda Carpenter, went to see then-President Trump speak on
