What dominates the mass media is often fleeting importance for the enduring political landscape. Nevertheless, some events can harbinger momentous changes despite their initial ordinary nature. A particularly telling example was the initial shift of small number of White Southern Democrats into the Republican Party in 1964, a little-noticed event that foretold the shift of nearly all Southern Whites into the GOP. Such shifts are tectonic insofar as they may eventually fundamentally change the political landscape.
We may now be experiencing a tectonic shift of major magnitude, namely the exodus of Jews from liberalism.

Excellent article--hope it's a Must Reed in the future. I always wondered about the Jewish affinity for the Democratic Party. Just goes to show that there is no teacher like experience. They're already learning by arming themselves. Now if they can take one more step and stop voting for the people that intend to harm them....

I do not understand how one Jewish person can vote democrat. From president right on Dow to the dog Catcher! An example is the young Jewish girl on the 5 on fox. I watch just to hear what Judge Jeanne has to say about legal matters in our judicial system. Anyhow, the attacks on Israel happen. Jessica is truly hurt by the terrorists attacks. Knows of people in Israel. But STILL SUPPORTS BIDEN AND THE DEMS. Unbelievable. But then look at Schumer and other Jewish Congress people. Still sending billions to Ukraine. And a much lesser amount to Israel. Why. No kickback from Bibi?

Anybody hear anything from Chuckie Schumer lately. Didn't think so. There's your answer. 90% of the Jews in this country are democrats, democrats with a lot of power and a lot of greed. To them Israel is on the other side of the world and they could care less. A zebra can't change it's stripes. Got it.

I remember Jewish friends of mine wearing their pink knitted “pussy hats” to the “womens’ march” after Trump was elected, it’s going to be hard for them to change their world view that much. There may be a voting shift, but it will likely be small. Nothing the democrats can’t overcome with a patch to vote counting software.

Why are so many Jewish Americans Democrats? It is a cultural thing. They are secular and live in heavily left-wing urban areas.

#11 is correct. They are mostly secular and leftists. They grew up as “red diaper babies” and indoctrinated into liberal nonsense because the Soviet Union fought the Nazis. They forget that Germany was allied with the USSR at the start of WWII until Hitler betrayed them. I used to think Jews were smart but unless they wake up, they may suffer another “Final Solution “.

FTA: "Guns were not previously on the agenda to combat anti-Semitism."
Well, now you know why the right to bear arms is in the Bill of Rights.

The Holocaust has blinded people to atrocities of anti-Semitism that came before. I don't know the numbers, but thousands, probably tens of thousands, of Jews were killed in Russian pogroms in the 1800s and early 1900s. Lots of young Jews wanted to become part of the new industrial world and not be restricted to the old religious life of the Russian Pale that could not stop this anti-Semitism. (Watch "Fiddler on the Roof" again. This was the world of Sholom Aleichem (Solomon Rabinowitz) who wrote the Tevye stories.)
In the modern world, they found philosophies that many helped develop into the various socialist, anarchist and communist movements. They came to America to escape both the Tsar's Cossacks and the rabbis telling them what to do. They not longer believed in doing what was "right in the sight of the Lord"; they did what was right in their own eyes.
And from then until now, they have been looking for new ideas that are right in their own eyes, and have supported them, too. Too bad all those "eyes" don't see the same thing; each thinking that the right in their own eyes is --- Right.
Quoting Dennis Prager in his commentary on Deuteronomy, to be right in their own eyes, they have to believe "that human nature is basically good and moral" and that only then can they believe that when all "follow what they individually believe to be right, good will follow". Prager says "this leads to moral chaos." (Ya think?)
And thus for several generations, you have secular Jews, without God to guide them, looking through their own eyes, and thinking their eyes are seeing the same Right that the American Left does. From the New Testament, scales are beginning to fall from the eyes of some.
(And don't think that Conservative Christians don't have similar problems at the other end of the scale.)
(#6, yeah, they are stiff-necked, but God love them, they do learn to bend their heads, otherwise they wouldn't be here 4000 years later.)

Fear is a motivating factor. Just look what fear did during covid. People were willing to give up their freedom and take toxins into their blood stream.
So now for the first time the Jewish population is feeling fear in America. They know historically how ignoring the threat in Germany worked out for the Jews. Jews are quite intent in matters of survival.
They may not like Trump or republicans or Christians, but they know they are at risk among liberal democrats.

Reality does slap one's in the face at times. We pray this rise of Jew hatred throughout this country and the world will be a wake up call to the American Jewish Community. Now will the Left see the importance of the 2nd Amendment and stop their yelling about gun control/gun confiscation?

Nice to see someone with these ideals, but I agree with #4: they can arm themselves but they won't basically change. Jewish people have an affinity with that liberal thinking that defines leftists as the truly good humanitarians, working and fighting for a better society, seeking utopia, yada, yada, yada, ad nauseam. If the universities are now riddled with hatred for Jews, remember that for over 6 decades communist and leftist indoctrination has been championed by ......... Jewish professors.
Jews in America have yet to wake up to the fact that, aside from the usual animosity against Jewish people throughout history (as foretold in the scriptures), a lot of what is being displayed against them is in part a result of their influence in various institutions. NOT an excuse in any way, of course, but it is something they need to sit and analyze going forward. It's not enough to buy a gun, although that's a first step. They need to sober up and be honest with themselves, and hopefully, overhaul their thinking.

A "Watershed moment"? Sorry, wishful thinking! It's not going to happen.
Tom Wolfe revealed in "Radical Chic" (1970) how the NY Jewish elite was shocked to find that their chic Black Panthers supported the PLO, wanting to destroy Israel. (As well as wanting to burn down everything here.)
But apparently this lesson has been forgotten. Now here we are, 50 years later: BLM supports Hamas? Who knew??
Wolfe practically slapped people across the face with this widely-read essay. Why didn't American Jews learn this lesson over 50 years ago??
Implying that they won't learn anything this time, either.

American Jews have as much in common with Israelis as American Catholics have with Romans. A barely shared religion and some verses.
I expect that any left of center Jews will learn nothing.
I learned everything that I needed to know about the so called Palestinians during the Munich Olympics.
