As the world watches the atrocities of the past few days unfold in Israel — including Hamas terrorists going door to door to kill Israelis — it is notable that Israel does not have a U.S.-like Second Amendment and private gun ownership among Israelis is low.
The BBC reported that “Israeli gun ownership is low at about 2% of the population.” In contrast, the findings of a recent study by Rutgers University’s New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center estimated upwards of six in ten Americans own guns. The difference, in large part, is the Second Amendment. Israelis are allowed to own guns at whatever level their government approves whereas Americans

And JRB wants to take your guns away. Arm yourself to protect yourself. It's not rocket science.

You would think that if your country was in close proximity to an enemy that wants to eliminate you, that you would encourage all residents to armed and ready. Stupid is as stupid does.

I'm surprised at this. When I was in Israel (touring) I noticed gun shops and ranges and thought that's probably a good idea when you have neighbors that want you dead.

The more I learn about Israel, the less I like them. This just adds to that dislike. Their terrorists dont seem to have trouble getting guns, but they restrict their citizens?
I remember seeing pictures of teachers and other regular people carrying rifles while out and about and thought it was pretty great. I guess that was unusual.
I have a Brit rifle from the early 1900s. It was surplussed to Australia where the citizens are not allowed to own military caliber rifles. So they bored it out to a .410 shotgun so the citizens could buy it. .410? Very effective if you are invaded by squirrels.
At least for now, we Americans still have the means to protect our families and communities. The communists havent been able to take that away (yet) though they have been trying for decades. I'm glad I live here.

Two percent gun ownership in a country that is surrounded by bloodthirsty enemies and is attacked more often than the average retail store in Manhattan? That is suicidal. Israeli leadership should have known better.

You would think that a country surrounded by enemies that want to destroy them would 1000% encourage their citizens own guns. Then I saw a Fox News clip this morning where 3 male Palestinian terrorists threw a bloodies female Israeli in the back of a car to do God knows what. I'm sorry but if I lived there (visited twice to Haifa thanks to the USN and loved every minute of it.) I'd be strapped. Luckily, I live in the good old USA. Even though we have an incompetent, ancient moron in charge 2A is still in effect.

Most Israeli homes have bomb shelters, but not the ability to defend themselves with firearms? I'm guessing that that may change soon.

Well, this makes no sense at all. Your country's 25 miles wide and surrounded by Muslims who want to destroy you, and owning a gun isn't mandatory? I wonder how far these incursions would have gotten if the terrorists were being shot at and killed every step of the way.

A horrible toll on its hapless citizens; but a country that does not prepare the people for survival is doomed, no matter its military. Soldiers cannot be everywhere at once.

Yes, somehow many Americans believe that Israelis can easily and legally be armed to protect themselves from terrorists. This is very much not the case. They have very tight gun laws and the average person just cannot own a gun or carry it.
We are far better off here in the USA, with our gun rights, and they are improving steadily.

I’m really surprised by this. I always assumed that the Israelis were free to arm themselves as they saw fit. After all, they invented the Uzi, and the Galil assault rifle. Israeli Military Industries (IMI) exports ammunition to the U.S. This makes no sense at all. Maybe this latest turn of events will cause some of the idiots in their Knesset to reconsider.
Also, someone at Breitbart needs to learn how to write. They’re not “bullets” - they are cartridges, or better yet, rounds of ammunition.

Israel has a lot of Palestinians that live or work in Israel. That may be why they do not permit gun ownership. It would seem they would have a gun stock that people could access in times of trouble, at the very least.

Israel needs the same kind of laws Switzerland has, given their precarious location, surrounded by bat-shiite crazy muzzies.

People in Israel should be made to own and operate a firearm!
