As the clock continues to tick towards a possible federal government shutdown, questions are being raised as to how this could affect social security payments for millions of Americans.
Social security payments would continue unaffected during a government shutdown, according to experts, but contacting the Social Security Administration (SSA) in the case of problems may be more difficult.
If lawmakers do not find a solution by October 1 and a shutdown does occur, the 66 million recipients of social security will still receive their complete federal monthly checks - which averages at $1,827 for retirees.

Atlanta—Judge Peter Cahill hardly slept during the six weeks he presided over the murder trial of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for killing George Floyd.
Cameras in the courtroom broadcast the veteran Minnesota judge’s every word to a global audience. Outside, the nation waited nervously for the outcome of a slaying that galvanized the movement for racial justice.
“When you’re in a high-profile trial, you feel the stress, you feel the pressure even if you’re not reading the papers,” he told an audience of judges last year at The National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada.
Cahill’s experience provides a glimpse of the additional scrutiny and strain that await the four judges

Joe Biden Monday afternoon hosted a meeting with the President’s Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Biden blasted House Republicans for arguing over a stopgap bill as a September 30 deadline looms.
He went off-script and said black people will suffer the most if a US government shutdown occurs.
“And now [Republicans] are reneging on the deal…and the black community in particular is going to suffer if that occurs,” Biden said.

President Joe Biden got briefly marooned while announcing a plan to invest $40 billion in infrastructure for Pacific islands – then skipped over the acronym for the new program he was touting after botching the name during delivery.
Biden announced the Pacific Islands Initiative at the start of a White House summit for Pacific island nations.
'We call it the P ... PI ... anyway, doesn't matter what we call it, but that's what it is,' he said. Then he riffed, 'I was going to get back to acronyms and I'm ... not doing that,' he joked, earning some laughs from participants in the East Room of the White House.

Former President Donald Trump assistant Peter Navarro — along with countless social media users — are feeling vindicated over their views on Hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for COVID-19.
On Sunday, Navarro posted on X an article from the Mayo Clinic that includes a “grudging admission of glaring truth: ‘Hydroxychloroquine may be used to treat coronavirus (COVID-19) in certain hospitalized patients.'”
“For all you murderers at @CNN @johnberman who spread lies about hydroxy, this one’s for u,” Navarro stated. (X) ×
According to the article, “Using this medicine alone or with other medicines (eg, azithromycin) may increase your risk of heart rhythm problems (eg, QT prolongation, ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia).”

Ad Fontes, a company that purports to rank the bias and trustworthiness of news source, is itself overwhelmingly biased in favor of leftist media, per analysis from the Media Research Center (MRC).
Over the past several years, a number of “media rating” agencies have sprung up which purport to rank the accuracy and bias of news companies. Virtually all of them, like the Global Disinformation Index (GDI) end up functioning as blacklists, used to advise advertisers and tech companies which news outlets to demonetize and suppress. Now, the spotlight is on another such company: Ad Fontes.

Independence, Mo.—It’s a Monday in September, but with schools closed, the three children in the Pruente household have nowhere to be. Callahan, 13, contorts herself into a backbend as 7-year-old Hudson fiddles with a balloon and 10-year-old Keegan plays the piano.
Like a growing number of students around the U.S, the Pruente children are on a four-day school schedule, a change instituted this fall by their district in Independence, Missouri.
To the kids, it’s terrific. “I have a three-day break of school!” exclaimed Hudson. But their mom, Brandi Pruente, who teaches French in a neighboring district in suburban Kansas City, is frustrated to find herself hunting for
