California Needs a Reality Check

Earlier this year, after the federal government leased 583 square miles of deep-ocean waters off the coast of California for offshore wind farms, California governor Gavin Newsom said that “offshore wind energy has gone from a distant pipedream to a burgeoning reality.” Maybe—but it’s hard to imagine an energy project that is costlier, riskier, or less practical. When completed, the project is set to deliver 4.5 gigawatts of electricity to the California grid. But because even the steadiest offshore winds blow only intermittently, the average production of the turbines will be around 1.8 gigawatts—just 5 percent of California’s current electricity consumption. If California goes all-electric, as state regulators insist it must,

Meanwhile, the Pacific Ocean could be solving the drought problems that threaten the critical agricultural supply that supports farmers and food . Desalination would improve the the lives and prosperity of California and provide steady food for the rest of the U.S. Of course, that would be rational, so won't happen.

If properly utilized, tidal power under the Golden Gate bridge could light San Francisco and beyond. Screams at a project like this could be heard on the moon. Windmills off the central coast should also bring out the screamers. California is now run by ignorant Democrat lawyers, by all measures extremely stupid people many of which hate America. This compounds the problems facing the state.

California is the land of make believe. They believe if they can think it, and throw unlimited amounts of money at it, it can become real. They are delusional. It doesn't bother me that they are, only that the rest of us need to stay well disconnected from their in progress train wreck. When the state collapses, no federal help should be made available. Smart people should flee the state while they can.

Californa needs a pendulum swing. Even the Dems are starting to whine about regulations and taxes and the rest of the garbage that the current gang has wrog. Many are not old enough to remember when they crossed the line as Reagan Democrats. Even Ahnold, running against a well-known nutcase, Cruz Bustemante, who was hardcore MEChA (look it up). won when Dems and independents crossed the line when that choice was offered up., First of all, we need some un-wimpy Republicans to run for office. Lately they have been in short supply.

Naive conservatives point to the leftist obsession with electric cars even while the grid is being moved away from reliable energy sources like oil, coal and gas, to fundamentally unreliable ones like wind and solar, and then point to the blackouts in California. “How is this going to work?” they argue, thinking that they’ve made a convincing point, while fundamentally misunderstanding (as conservatives often do) that they haven’t found a logical weakness, they’ve uncovered the enemy’s plan. Shoving everything into an unreliable power grid, especially personal transportation, isn’t a bug, it’s a feature. That’s the whole point of electric cars, and the proliferation of always

Two radical left “scholars” have crawled from underneath the rocks where they were hiding and are now openly advocating the end of “judicial review.” That’s the theory that the Supreme Court has the last word on constitutional issues and that all must obey their decisions—including, and especially, presidents. The doctrine dates back to the 1803 Marbury v. Madison decision, where Chief Justice John Marshall decided the ultimate question of power: is an act of Congress or the Constitution the supreme law of the land? But now, Harvard law Prof. Mark Tushnet and political scientist Aaron Belkin are advocating for something they’re calling “Popular Constitutionalism” to give Joe Biden the dubious authority

Two veteran IRS agents with impeccable records have now testified under oath that federal officials not only slow-walked the Hunter Biden probe but nixed efforts to investigate Joe’s role in the family business. And though legacy media are conveniently apathetic about the developments, they seem somewhat newsworthy to me. On Wednesday, we learned the identity of “Whistleblower X.” Joseph Ziegler, a self-proclaimed Democrat who worked at the agency since 2010, told the House Oversight Committee that he handled 95% of the evidence in the Hunter tax investigation. Ziegler testified that throughout the five-year investigation, he felt “handcuffed,” “hamstrung,” “marginalized” and ultimately stopped from moving forward in the manner he would

Obviously, I fall into the latter camp, but admit freely that the 1023 contains smoking gun accusations and recounts conversations the confidential informant, who himself is said to be credible, with people involved in the matter. Remember (because maybe he doesn’t) when Biden was emptying our Strategic Petroleum Reserve to force down gas prices in time for the midterms, promising to fill’er back up once prices dropped low enough? Yeah, about that. The SPR is probably never going to be refilled, according to one expert, and maybe not even for the reason that first popped into your mind. I’m happy for Luke and his success and grateful that new fans have found and embraced ‘Fast Car.’”

In late June, New York City announced plans to implement its new “Skip the Stuff” bill, which aims to reduce plastic use by fining restaurants and delivery services handing out unsolicited plastic items like ketchup and cutlery. Food vendors and delivery services have a moment to adapt. Actual fines won’t start being handed out until July of 2024, and until then, violators will only receive warnings, Bloomberg reports.
