Ron DeSantis’s once-vaunted presidential bid is in freefall. In the latest ominous sign for the Florida governor, Rupert Murdoch’s media empire appears to be distancing itself from his candidacy, with once-supportive outlets from Fox News and the New York Post to The Wall Street Journal highlighting his flagging poll numbers, his policy inconsistencies, and his cringeworthy attempts to connect with voters in key primary states.
Should the DeSantis campaign fizzle out, comparisons with previous GOP stars-turned-flops like Jeb Bush, his predecessor in Tallahassee, are inevitable. But a more revealing analogy for DeSantis is to the most disappointing candidacy in the 2020 Democratic field: that of Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

It has been painful to watch DeSantis’s progression into national politics. He had such potential but blew it for want of patience and the ability to read the political room. Americans are frustrated and furious at what has happened to our country during the lawless Biden administration. I believe the majority of us want to believe we can fix this at the ballot box because the alternative is unimaginable. Whether that is the case or not we are going to have to wait and see. However, the base believes we have the best shot to do it by re-electing Donald Trump. This is not some cultist mindset that is incapable of rational thought. It is a steadfast belief that PDT has the best chance to go to Washington and stop the dangerous anti-American policies that are destroying us. His record of success is the foundation of his support. His agenda is appealing to many Americans who watch in horror as we are told the Ukraine war is necessary, open borders are good, spending our way out of debt is logical, crime should be ignored, our system of justice is fair, the government is honest, men can be women and women can be men, and trafficking children is nothing but a myth created by QAnon nuts. Ron DeSantis just cannot compete with the record of Donald Trump, but the most important quality President Trump possesses is that Americans trust him. You can’t buy trust, you can’t use political consultants to demand trust, and you can’t pretend to have it. Trust is earned and that is the deciding factor for the majority of Americans. We want someone who will do what he says he will do. Ron DeSantis lacks that as do the rest of the field. It’s that simple.

#1's response is both well thought and written. I also believe the bait and switch of promising to serve his full second term, then announcing a presidential candidacy only five months into it has soured many supporters support. To me it is just too obvious a power trip.

Let's not pile on DeSantis. He's certainly no Donald Trump -- no one is -- but at this point he is still head and shoulders above the rest of the GOP field. There's a reason he has garnered so much popular support in Florida.

#1 is right, PDT is trusted and that's why the PTB can never let him get in the WH again. By hook, crook or assassination he'll be taken out.
DeS has sold his soul to the Uniparty money interests but whoever the Repub nominee will be (excepting PDT) will be utterly savaged by the media.

The problem with the DeSantis campaign is the people behind him. The unscrupulous RINO's and Trump haters.

All he had to do was WAIT.
He was going to be a shoo-in in 2028.
He stepped in it and now he cannot wipe it off his shoe.

Ronnie Boy is surely the next John Kasich IMO. Question though: was his father a postman?

Whatever your position on DeSantis, comparing him to Elizabeth Warren is off-base and downright cold. Warren is a screeching nitwit who reminds normal men of the schoolmarm or the mother-in-law they couldn't stand. She may have appealed to the spinster wine-woman, dingbat college girl and limp-wrist male demographics, but that's hardly a viable base.

Really? Ron DeSantis is a respectable man. I compare what is happening in the same way that I viewed Scott Walker and Ben Carson running for president in 2016. I am where #9 is at in thinking - to compare him to Elizabeth Warren is ridiculous. It takes bold courage to run for president when you have the likes of what the Democrat party has become. Vindictive.

By the way, there is something else I would like to comment on for clarity sake. I can understand how Donald Trump would feel about Ron DeSantis or the governor of Iowa. When you lend your support and they gladly accept it, there is a certain loyalty that would occur. Especially in a flailing campaign! I am not really into big names supporting a campaign because I believe a person should campaign with a lot of effort rather than boasting about big donors etc. At the same time, I place myself in Donald Trump's shoes and I probably would feel a sting of betrayal from Ron DeSantis or Kim Reynolds, too.

Comparing Gov. DeSantis to that screeching, faux-Indian Liz Warren is hardly a way to win an argument. I’ve been disappointed by the Governor’s foray into presidential politics but the smears and lies are beyond the pale.

This is way overstated. Desantis has made some bad moves and accepted some really bad advice, but if he wasn't a threat to Trump we would all still be saying what a great guy he is.
Support him or not, Trump fights dirty. We are seeing that again here.

OH lay off, will ya?.
Anyone remember how stories in the press vaulted John McCain to the fore in the 2008 election? Don't let the press pick our candidates. DeSantis has been a great governor and does things that ALL REAL Republican governors should do ( but don't. See Kemp) There was a great article a couple days back posted here: Trump will get the nod from us because we all know he was robbed in 2020. Fairness demands it.
And the heck with the 'news stories.'

If one considers the comparison to Pocahontas too harsh ..Throw the shape shifting wifey Jackie.deux into the mix ..That is pure Karl Rove M O .The Florida guv and his wifey are merely occupying the spotlight while other rino blobs ( looking at you christyetc) are seeding the primaries with all kinds of single interest vote &$$$ stealers to divide and eliminate the only true contender President Trump

I've noticed the parade of anti-DeSantis articles here and all the shills for Trump attempting to destroy DeSantis. Either Trump or DeSantis would make good presidents. With Trump so far ahead who is trying to sabotage DeSantis political future?

#5,#6. I'd put Trump in the White House if I could! Still I continue to hear those accusations about Roe, Bushes, RINOS, Dark Money, et al supporting DeSantis, but yet to find any reliable source to these claims. As usual, we continue to eat our own.
As my Algebra teacher used to say, "show me your work".

Trump will probably be our nominee. Most of you say he was robbed, he will do the right thing, he loves America, and it is not anyone else’s turn. Fine, now tell me how he is going to win. Do you honestly believe there are enough Trump people to vote him back into the White House? I might have thought that until the last election when the red wave disappeared, and so many candidates Trump backed ended up losing. And now he is fighting with those same people and calling them losers.

Did you see what is going into effect this month in Florida? Florida will not recognize illegal alien licences that have been issued in other states. He's also cracking down on businesses that hire them. He DOES all the right things, not just talk about them. I would have no problem with him winning the nomination.

Trump or DeSantis, whatever, the one imperative is that we must win, the alternative of a Newsom administration is too terrible to contemplate. So what does it take to win? I’m about 50% certain that we are too far gone already to remedy things with ballots. It’s likely that 2016 was our last real election. We know massive cheating occurred in 2020, and we know massive cheating will occur in 2024. But we have to try, at least one more time. If the Dems prevail in 2024, there really won’t be any point to future elections. If they are held at all it will be to distract and delude the masses into thinking we are still a representative republic. But back to right now, those who seek to rule us see Trump as an existential threat (which is what makes him so appealing to us), and they will stop at nothing to ensure that Trump does not become president again. Couple this with the traitorous never-Trump Republicans and it’s hard to see Trump winning. Of course there will still be cheating if DeSantis is the nominee, but maybe not quite so much? The media will still lie too. I’d hope that Trump supporters would vote for RDS in November, along with the never Trumpers, and possibly some moderate Democrats (if there are any left) who's minds are brainwashed against Trump. I’d love to see Trump back in office, if he’s the nominee I’ll vote for him. But I fear he can’t win, not because he won’t get the most votes, but because we don’t have free and fair elections now and the ruling class won’t allow Trump to take office.
