The State and Commerce Departments were among the government agencies targeted by Chinese hackers last month in the weeks preceding Antony Blinken’s trip to Beijing.
The hacks were probably affiliated with China’s military and spy services, the New York Times reported, and they began after months of increasing tensions between Washington and Beijing. Republicans have called on the administration to halt its pursuit of a thaw, given the spy-balloon incident, China’s ongoing cooperation with Cuba, and the country’s treatment of the Uyghurs and Taiwan.

Another business closing its doors in San Francisco but this one isn’t just another major chain retailer. Anchor brewing opened its doors in San Francisco in 1896 and has survived everything that happened between now and then. But today the company announced it had already brewed its last beer, citing economic problems related to the pandemic.
After 127 years in business, San Francisco’s Anchor Brewing Company is shutting down.
According to a press release, the brewery has been facing challenging economic factors and declining sales since 2016.
“This was an extremely difficult decision that Anchor reached only after many months of careful evaluation,” Anchor Brewing spokesperson Sam Singer said. “We recognize the importance

Republicans had stronger voter turnout than Democrats did in the 2022 midterms, as the GOP narrowly won control of the U.S. House of Representatives — but failed to win the U.S. Senate.
Just a sliver of the electorate — 6% of voters — crossed party lines in last year’s election, reflecting the small size of the swing vote that’s truly up for grabs in this increasingly politically polarized nation. And just slightly more than one-third of all eligible voters participated in all three of the most recent national elections — 2018, 2020 and 2022 — demonstrating how fluid the electorate is from cycle to cycle.
These are the major

Bob Iger will not be handing Disney over to a successor next year after all.
Originally back as Mouse House CEO for just two years, Iger’s contract has now been extended another two years through the end of 2026, the company announced today.
“Time and again, Bob has shown an unparalleled ability to successfully transform Disney to drive future growth and financial returns, earning him a reputation as one of the world’s best CEOs,” said Disney Board chair Mark G. Parker today of the decision to keep the past-and-present CEO on longer. “Bob has once again set Disney on the right strategic path for ongoing value creation,

Well — he’s running for something. Right now, Joe Manchin plans to run to New Hampshire to headline a No Labels event, along with former governor and politico from another era Jon Huntsman. Together they will make the pitch that Americans deserve another option if the two major parties decide on a rematch of 2020.
And while that argument may make sense in that specific circumstance, America would probably want a different choice than these two as the alternative, too:

Fox News is facing a new defamation lawsuit from a man who claims that its former host Tucker Carlson falsely identified him as an undercover FBI agent who triggered the January 6th attack on the Capitol.
The lawsuit was filed in Delaware Superior Court, the same venue where the network recently faced a lengthy trial over Dominion Voting Systems defamation claims that its hosts and guests amplified a false narrative that the company rigged the 2020 presidential election. Fox News settled the case for $787.5 million. Epps, who voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020, and believed that the latter election was stolen from him, according to the lawsuit.

The Biden administration on Monday slammed the Republican-controlled House’s version of 2024 National Defense Authorization Act for requiring military personnel decisions to be based on merit and not race or gender, among other provisions.
“The Administration strongly opposes the House’s sweeping attempts…to eliminate the Department’s longstanding [Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access] efforts and related initiatives to promote a cohesive and inclusive force,” the Biden administration said in a Statement of Administration Policy.
The House’s NDAA contains a number of Republican-authored provisions to roll back the Biden administration’s efforts to push Marxist-based Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives throughout the entire Department of Defense establishment, including the military.

NEW YORK — The Justice Department on Tuesday said that Donald Trump can be held personally liable for remarks he made about a woman who accused him of rape — a reversal of its position that Trump was protected because he was president when he made the remarks.
In a letter filed with the judge presiding over a defamation lawsuit that columnist E. Jean Carroll brought in Manhattan federal court in 2020, the department says it no longer has “a sufficient basis” to conclude that Trump was motivated in his statements about Carroll’s claims by more than an insignificant desire to serve the United States.
Previously, the department had agreed

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission cannot stop Microsoft’s proposed $69 billion purchase of Activision Blizzard, a California judged ruled on Tuesday.
The deal was originally announced 17 months ago and can now move forward by the July 18, deadline. In her ruling, Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley said, "Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision has been described as the largest in tech history," and "it deserves scrutiny." "Microsoft has committed in writing, in public, and in court to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation for 10 years on parity with Xbox," she continued. "It made an agreement with Nintendo to bring Call of Duty to Switch. And it entered several agreements

A 27-page report released on Monday by the House Judiciary Committee revealed more alleged social media censorship from the Biden administration, this time in a concerning collaboration between the FBI and the Ukrainian spy agency the SBU to go after and flag U.S. social media accounts, including multiple journalists and even a U.S. State Department account.
The FBI was essentially doing the bidding of a foreign spy agency, according to the report, which should concern everyone. The report was based on subpoenaed documents.
“Although the SBU’s lists contained American accounts, neither the FBI nor Meta appeared to raise concerns about the provenance of the SBU’s ‘disinformation’ registries. Instead,

If something is falling apart but wants to stay afloat, it's usually a pretty right time for making some changes.
Which brings us to Hollywood, where Power Line attorney and writer John Hinderaker has found some good observations:
Like most of corporate America, Hollywood has fallen prey to the “DEI” delusion in recent years. Far from being a good thing, corporate “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” measures generally represent a poisonous brew of racism, leftism and anti-Americanism. The sooner this fad fades from the scene, the better.
In the Telegraph, U.S. Editor Nick Allen sees signs that the entertainment industry is moving back toward sanity:
Hollywood is suffering “diversity fatigue”,

Has the Republican presidential nomination contest finished before it started? That narrative has gripped the traditional media of late, with constant references to stagnant national polling. Does that mean that DeSantis has utterly failed in his attempt at the nomination and that his campaign is near collapse as a result?
Even conservative media outlets have concluded that DeSantis has flopped so far and that the issue has already become existential. Daniel Flynn warns at the American Spectator that DeSantis will need a John McCain-esque comeback now:
Does Ron DeSantis want to be the nominee? From the disastrous online launch met with technical difficulties to the ill-advised ad attacking Donald Trump for basically
