The PGA Tour’s shock merger with Saudi-backed rival LIV Golf boasts a singular investor in the yet-to-be-named entity — PIF, the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds.
The fund, established in 1971, is headed by Saudi’s Crown Prince and de facto ruler Mohammed bin Salman, who was accused of ordering the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Under the prince’s chairmanship, PIF has more than $600 billion in assets and has invested around the globe in companies that include Uber, Blackstone and Japan’s Softbank. It has also spent heavily on sports franchises, including the $409 million purchase of English Premier League

DES MOINES, Iowa — Former Vice President Mike Pence, who certified the 2020 election results under threat from supporters of then-President Donald Trump, kicked off a bid for the Oval Office on Wednesday.
On his 64th birthday, Pence, the former Indiana governor and six-term congressman, released a launch video taking whacks at President Joe Biden by name and Trump by implication. "President Joe Biden and the radical left have weakened America at home and abroad," Pence says in a self-narrated 2½-minute montage of Americana. "We can turn this country around. But different times call for different leadership."
Turning more squarely toward the oft-spiteful Trump, Pence adds, "Today, our party and our

A huge fight broke out outside the Glendale School Board meeting in Los Angeles as parents, many of them from the Armenian-American community, came to protest the school’s pride events. Naturally, the left-wing zealots—read “Antifa”—showed up in force, and as you will see, some serious punches were thrown on both sides. A heavy police presence attempted to stop the fighting, violently pulling apart combatants to prevent serious injury.
Someone with a bullhorn shouts, “Do not engage! Step away. We are not here to fight!” Maybe that person wasn’t there to fight, but plenty of other people were. One man wearing a black helmet seems to stagger into the arms of policemen

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is closing the gap on former President Donald Trump in the early nominating state of Iowa, according to an internal poll out this week. The survey by WPA Intelligence for the DeSantis-supporting Never Back Down super PAC showed the 44-year-old governor in a virtual tie with the 76-year-old Trump in a head-to-head contest. Trump had 45% support, while DeSantis had 43% support and 12% were undecided.
An early May head-to-head poll, taken before the Florida governor formally entered the race, showed Trump with 53% support, DeSantis on 39% and 8% undecided.
DeSantis also made up ground on Trump in an Iowa survey

New York City topped the list of the world’s worst air pollution Tuesday morning as harmful smoke wafted south from more than a hundred wildfires burning in Quebec.
Smoke from Canada’s fires has periodically engulfed the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic for more than a week, raising concerns over the harms of persistent poor air quality. New York City’s air quality index peaked above 150 on Tuesday, according to IQair – a level of pollution that is “unhealthy” for sensitive groups like the elderly, young children and those with respiratory issues.
New York City was still among the top five cities with the worst air pollution in the world Tuesday afternoon

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Chris Christie thinks someone has to take down Donald Trump and he is the one to do it.
The former New Jersey governor has long been mulling a second presidential campaign and made it official Tuesday night in New Hampshire during a town hall at Saint Anselm College, not only vowing to defeat the former president, but to take the 2024 Republican nomination for himself. "I can't guarantee you success in what I'm about to do. But I guarantee you that at the end of it, you will have no doubt in my mind who I am and what I stand for and whether I deserve it,"

The Wall Street Journal is warning C-suite executives that their daytime adventures in woke politics can cost them their annual bonuses.
“In most of these C-suites, they’re like, ‘We don’t want to be next,'” Jim Fielding, a former top retail executive at Claire’s Stores and Disney Stores, told the newspaper for a June 6 article, headlined “Companies That Embraced Social Issues Have Second Thoughts.” “One step can turn a social-media storm into a corporate crisis that cripples businesses and wrecks careers,” the article says, adding: Over the past decade, companies have become more vocal on causes such as immigration, voting access, abortion, gay rights and racial equity, often taking stances

HOUSTON - Harris County Commissioners have approved a pilot program that will pay a monthly stipend to hundreds of low-income families, joining dozens of 'guaranteed income' programs across the country. In Texas, San Antonio and Austin have their own pilot programs, but Harris County becomes the first county in the state to offer experimental financial assistance from the COVID stimulus American Rescue Plan Act. In a party-line vote, Commissioner Tom Ramsey was the lone hold-out against the UPLIFT Harris Program that will pay $500 a month to 1500 low-income Harris County households. They'll be randomly selected from 10 zip codes with persistent generational poverty.

The PGA Tour has announced it will be merging operations under a single owner with its rival, the Saudi-backed LIV Golf, as well as the DP World Tour, formerly known as the European Tour.
"After two years of disruption and distraction, this is a historic day for the game we all know and love," PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement. "This transformational partnership recognizes the immeasurable strength of the PGA TOUR's history, legacy and pro-competitive model and combines with it the DP World Tour and LIV – including the team golf concept – to create an organization that will benefit golf's players, commercial and charitable partners and fans.

NEW YORK -The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday sued Coinbase, accusing the largest U.S. cryptocurrency exchange of operating illegally without having first registered with the regulator.
Tuesday's lawsuit came one day after the SEC sued Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, and its founder Changpeng Zhao.
Both cases are part of SEC Chair Gary Gensler's push to assert jurisdiction over crypto and offer better protection to investors who trade virtual currencies. "Coinbase's alleged failures deprive investors of critical protections, including rulebooks that prevent fraud and manipulation, proper disclosure, safeguards against conflicts of interest, and routine inspection,"

Another plane carrying migrants arrived in Sacramento on Monday, and California officials believe they came from Florida.
The plane carrying about 20 migrants arrived on Monday in Sacramento after more than a dozen South American migrants were flown on a charter jet from New Mexico over the weekend. “Documents carried by the migrants appear to show that the weekend flight was arranged through the Florida Division of Emergency Management and that it was part of the state’s program to relocate migrants, mostly from Texas, to other states, California Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta said,” reported the Los Angeles Times. “The contractor for the program is Vertol Systems Co., which coordinated

An unusual and perhaps notable event unfolded at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore this week, one of the only regional defense summits in the region held each year. Most of you are already no doubt aware of the increasing level of tension between the United States and China that has been growing steadily for the past two years. Many have been speculating about the possibility of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan and even the possibility of World War 3. But Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu addressed the conference and took a decidedly different tone than we’ve been hearing out of Beijing recently. He bemoaned the idea that
