Former President Trump on Tuesday knocked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for actions against Disney in the state, saying the governor is “being absolutely destroyed” by the company.
“DeSanctus is being absolutely destroyed by Disney. His original P.R. plan fizzled, so now he’s going back with a new one in order to save face,” Trump said on Truth Social, referring to the Florida governor by a nickname.
Trump speculated that “Disney’s next move will be the announcement that no more money will be invested in Florida because of the Governor. In fact, they could even announce a slow withdrawal or sale of certain properties, or the whole thing. Watch!

Disney World is slightly smaller than San Francisco. But, if they were pack up and move to Vermont or Alaska, NBC Universal would simply expand Nintendo Land onto the 40 square miles and, unlike Disney, make the equivalent of the EU's GDP. Plus, not groom the kids.

I think Trump is wrong on this, and should avoid DeSantis attacks. That is falling victim to the left's efforts to divide and conquer the right, by getting them to know each other off. Will Republicans ever get a brain, and quit allowing Democrats to lead them around by the nose?

President Trump, don't get on the side of Evil Disney in this one. Just don't.

First, don't boycott AB, now don't stand up to Disney groomers--2 for 2 DJT. You need to dump whoever is advising you on this OR keep going and we can see how squishy you are for the cultural battle ahead of us.

Trump doesn't know what he's talking about. Maybe he should stay out of the Governor's Business. Those of us who live in Florida back what he's doing with Disney 100%!

You shouldn't either

I keep hoping that this is a scathingly brilliant plan in which PDJT and RD go at each other as if bitter rivals....while secretly firm allies. Would really get the better of the Commiecrats and MSM.

You don't have to trust The Hill...Trump posted what he posted, so you can take him at his own words. He's on the wrong side of this one and, IMO, the more he attacks DeSantis, the more damage he is doing to himself. DeSantis is absolutely right on this one and this is the only time Florida is going to have a Governor who is in a position to take on Disney. Once DeSantis is gone, so is the opportunity. Although, I have to say to poster #1, while NBC Universal has wisely sat out this fight, we know which side they are on when it comes to groomers and it ain't our side. They are all in the gutter together.

It is well worth remembering -- in the 1990s, Disney tried to open a theme park in the Virginia suburbs of D.C. They got shut down by the Left. Probably didn't kick back enough to the Bidens, Clintons and Kennedys.

Trump is making a big mistake on this issue and needs to start going after Dims, not the best governor in the nation. These unfounded and ill advised attacks will only hurt him.

Trump is running scared! He’s weak. Like always, he’s juvenile! What a jerk. I hope DeSantis cleans his clock. Trump will side with the enemy if it’s to his advantage. He has No loyalty. You can read this guy like a book, and it’s a dime novel. The guy is a loser, and he’s obsessed with power. Fortunately, he will do himself in. Obviously, there’s nobody around him to give good advice. Just A bull in a China shop. Just look at his personnel choices during his presidency—and everybody he had to fire—or should have fired. What an idiot.

Trump needs to keep his nose out of this and stay focused on his own legal problems and the 2024 election. The more he picks fights with fellow Republicans the more he looks mentally unstable.

Why on earth is Trump butting into the business of Florida’s governor? Is he running for president or running to replace DeSantis? As another negative, Trump is now aligning himself with the odious Chris Christie who is also slamming DeSantis on his dealing with Disney. Not smart.

Disney isn't winning this ... its maneuver to neuter the board and transfer power elsewhere will not stand. Disney has been too clever by half. They keep digging and the hole they're in is just getting deeper.

I agree with the posters who say that Trump should not have involved himself in this. I know he is angry, his well-earned second term was stolen from him. But this sort of thing is no way to handle it, especially since DeSantis is not even a candidate for the nomination.
And Christie is absolutely ridiculous. I wouldn't vote for him for dog catcher.

This is a HUGE mistake on Trump's part. Disney is corrupt from stem to stern, and top to bottom.

I rarely post anymore; however, I do check in periodically to see how fellow long-time L-Dotters are doing. It's good to see familiar screen names on this thread even when I disagree with some of them -- as I do here. This is complicated, so I will try to keep it short (and fail). I agree with President Trump and was startled to see him say what I've been thinking for so long.
1. "Say, that's a nice Reedy Creek Improvement District you have there. Be a shame if something happened to it..." This is the governor of a state using the power of that state to threaten a company for expressing disagreement with his policies. If revocation of Reedy Creek's special status wasn't clear enough, he is now threatening to build penitentiaries next to private property to reduce its value. I oppose that on principle, whether I agree with the governor's policies or not.
2. Reedy Creek wasn't just a special privilege given to Disney, it was a prerequisite that made Disney World possible. There are many historical precedents for governments making special arrangements to encourage investments. This particular arrangement made Disney World an unprecedented success that persevered through decades of both Democrat and Republican governorships...
3. ...Because it worked. Anyone who thinks what Disney World needs is more state and local government involvement needs to re-check their free market credentials at the park gates. Or better yet, walk the other way and see how far you get under Orlando's municipal government before you encounter a crime waiting for you to happen by. Measured in terms of population density, throughput, and delivery of services, Disney World is the most successfully governed place on Earth...
4. ... and arguably one of the most popular. Whatever misgivings conservatives have about Disney, Space Mountain is the wrong hill to die on in the Culture War. DeSantis literally cannot win here. If he damages Disney, it will be a pyrrhic victory that will leave him a political pariah. If he loses, he will look like an idiot who picked a fight he couldn't win.
Having said all that, #18 is probably right (as always). Neither Trump nor I should have weighed in on this one.
