NPR itself confirmed Thursday that it had cut 10% of its workforce on Thursday, impacting roughly 100 employees, adding that it tends to roll back the workforce from 1,200 to an estimated 1,050 employees, the "largest reduction in staff since the 2008 recession."
"We literally are fighting to secure the future of NPR at this very moment by restructuring our cost structure. It's that important. It's existential," NPR chief executive John Lansing told NPR's media correspondent David Folkenflik. Apparently, ad revenue will drop $30 million in 2023.
Back in the 1980s, I lived and worked in Mexico and would listen to NPR's "Morning Edition"

With literally hundreds or thousands of radio stations out there, why do we need "public" radio? Are the broadcast media somehow excluding left-wing news and viewpoints? To the extent NPR broadcasts truly popular shows, those shows could easily move to commercial radio.

They are attached to the taxpayer's wallet, so how can they be hurting for cash? I will admit that when we used to travel for several hours 2-3 times a year to visit hubby's parents, we listened to some of the shows on NPR like Wait, Wait Don't Tell me and the Car Guys were always good. But for the most part, that was the only time we really listened to NPR. Now that the in-laws have both passed, we no longer listen to NPR.

When will the r's ever defund this and PBS? They've had control of all 3 wings and yet never removed the funding.

congress challenged their screamingly biased reporting, funded by ''other peoples' money '': they bragged they earned soooo much
money from toy licences, they didn't need right winger support.

I truly wouldn't care were it not for the fact that it is directly and indirectly funded using MY MONEY. My tax dollars are directly used to undermine my beliefs and indirectly because business give 'donations' to underwrite NPR which are written off as 'charitable' donations and robbing we tax-payers of federal revenues.

The future for NPR is to be defunded by the taxpayers ...since it's not about US...it's about the establishment narrative...and now...that Americans don't tune in...they must cut their work force....awwww...to bad?
