It’s still too soon to make the definitive historical assessment of the Iraq War, the good, the bad, and the ugly — even assuming such a thing is even possible. But it’s never too soon to correct the historical revisionism that’s taken place in recent years.

We fought a war for 8 years or so. Lost a few thousand people. Had a lot more wounded. And the outcome did not effect daily life in America at all.
What do you think?

FTA: “ If you’re pushing for a major war that doesn’t have a 36-to-48-month endgame, then don’t bother. For what it’s worth, I haven’t since. If it comes down to a choice between cutting off the weapons flow to Ukraine or sending a single American soldier to fight there… then sayonara, Kyiv.”
My sediments exactly. Of course, i also believe the Dims pushed to undermine the peace effort in order bring political harm to the republicans. Very despicable. And they will do it with regard to Ukraine too if there is a republican president.
So, no support for any more war mongering from me.

Seem odd that there is no mention of Gulf War 1 that started in 1990.

The opinion of the article's author is basically, Oops that didn't go as planned. That about sums up US foreign policy for the past 60 years.

I remember the media solidly pushing the war with stories every day about Saddam's cruelty to his people and his spoiled brat sons Uday and Qsay driving their Ferraris around and raping young girls they kidnapped off the street. Saddam was nicknamed "The Monster." As it turned out, The Monster was keeping Iran in control and preventing a group like ISIS from forming. All we had to do was destroy his large weapons and his air force and never put a boot on the ground and he would have been impotent for another 10-15 years.

#3, we started Gulf War 1 when Saddam invaded Kuwait. The only affect it had on us was that we would soon be writing one check instead of two to buy ME oil.

FTA: “ The biggest mistake I made was in promoting a war that, I said at the time, would require a multi-generational effort at nurturing Iraq’s infant democracy.”
And the USA jumped in anyways, with little dissent. When will we learn it’s all about culture when it comes to “democracy”? Their ideas of “freedom” don’t mesh with ours. Same is true in Ukraine, but no matter, right?

It is yet another case of "Won the war...lost the Peace", Bush 41 won, Clinton lost...and his feckless weakness led not only to an emboldend belligerent Saddam, but also 911. The plans and the perps were ALL made, trained, put into place while clinton was in office, the same Dems who want to blame bush for it...also claim Al;Gore actually won, and should have been President when it happened..Saddam played a cheat and retreat game for years, daring Clinton to "do something" and Clinton just kept moving our troops and fleets around, taking them away from other necessary tasks to seem like he was. When Bush gave the final ultimatum, and Saddam didn't meet the deadline, all hell broke loose, and Saddam even stated "I didn't think he MEANT it, the other guy never did". We and 40 other supporting nations destroyed the worlds 3rd largest military in record/history making time. There certainly were failures, led by (end the bloodshed Dems" that later made "the Surge"necessary, and the same Dems claimed it would never work. Biden, Clinton, Kerry and more wanted to divide Iraq into three pieces and give them to Iran, Syria, and "The UN", methinks they still do.
Biggest mistake Bush made was NOT taking out Mookie AlSadr during or soon after the "Cemetery Fight" Sadr was/is the root cause of many of Iraqs problems since. Obama/Biden fostered and allowed the scourge of ISIS/ISIL to fester and erupt, primarily by supporting Sadr and Irans regional ambitions.. Trump burst that blister and cauterized the wound.Obama/Biden lost the peace in Afghanistan as well.
Revisionists still harp about WMDSWMDS!!, but the decision was made due to non compliance with all 13 of the points in the Cessation of decision agreement, not just that One..

I was all for kicking the behinds of those who attacked US on our soil, get in and get out, but Bush played US. He woke a lot of US up, though; his presidency ended the RINO con for many of US.

We should have turned iraq into glass, or stayed out.
Same with anyplace we wage war. Total war, or nothing.
