Kadena Air Base, Japan —
The US Navy reconnaissance jet flies at 21,500 feet over the South China Sea, 30 miles from the contested Paracel Islands, a group of about 130 small atolls, the biggest of which are home to Chinese military bases.
A voice, saying it’s coming from a People’s Liberation Army (PLA) airport, crackles over the radio of the US Navy P-8 Poseidon as a CNN crew, given rare access aboard the US flight, listens in.
“American aircraft. Chinese airspace is 12 nautical miles. Not approaching any more or you bear all responsibility,” it says.
In a few minutes, a Chinese fighter jet armed with air-to-air missiles intercepts the US plane,

Sometimes, I listen to Joe Biden–and all I can think is: he is one weird dude.
He was asked on Friday if he would be visiting the site of the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, and his response was bizarre. He said he did a “whole video,” and he couldn’t remember that it was a “Zoom” video. “Zoom. All I can hear every time I think of Zoom is that song of my generation, ‘Who’s Zoomin’ Who?'” Biden babbled.
Yikes. At this point, he’s just not a serious person; he seems completely out of it. You have a disaster in East Palestine, and that’s how he’s responding?

Billionaire Jeff Bezos has reportedly hired an investment firm to examine the potential purchase of the Washington Commanders.
Two sources close to the situation told the Washington Post that Bezos has been working with “Allen & Company, a New York-based firm that is prominent in transactions involving professional sports franchises.” As Breitbart News reported in November of last year, the Amazon founder, worth an estimated $155 billion, was reportedly eyeing to purchase the football team in the wake of current owners Dan and Tanya Snyder announcing their intention to potentially sell it. Though it remains to be seen if the billionaire will purchase the team, his enlistment of Allen & Company

After a barrage of criticism for making hundreds of changes to the works of Roald Dahl, the British publisher of his books has relented, agreeing to publish Dahl’s classic texts side by side with the new, edited versions. The language edited was specifically related to weight, mental health, race, and gender. The changes led prominent authors and editors like Salman Rushdie to condemn the move.
“The Roald Dahl Classic Collection will sit alongside the newly released Puffin Roald Dahl books for young readers, which are designed for children who may be navigating written content independently for the first time,”

Astronomers have used the James Webb Space Telescope to peer back in time to the early days of the universe — and they spotted something unexpected. The space observatory revealed six massive galaxies that existed between 500 million and 700 million years after the big bang that created the universe. The discovery is completely upending existing theories about the origins of galaxies, according to a new study published Wednesday in the journal Nature.“These objects are way more massive than anyone expected,” said study coauthor Joel Leja, assistant professor of astronomy and astrophysics at Penn State University, in a statement. “We expected only to find tiny, young, baby galaxies

Pete Buttigieg finally went to East Palestine on Thursday, and as expected, he thoroughly embarrassed himself. While reporters were asking valid questions about the performance of the Biden administration, the failed transportation secretary used them to launch ridiculous partisan attacks on people who haven’t been in power for years.
Here’s one such example, but there have been others over the weeks, with Buttigieg repeatedly citing supposed deregulation as a cause of the devastating derailment. I don’t know about you, but watching this absolute mediocrity of a public official smugly make his way through a press conference, appearing to be holding back laughter at times

Florida continues on its quest to establish itself as “the state where woke goes to die.” The latest chapter in this story involves a new bill introduced in the state legislature known as the “Reverse Woke Act.” If passed, the proposed law would require any employer that covers “gender transition” services to also pay for detransition medical care, even if the employee had the original procedure done in another state. It would also apply if the patient is no longer with the company. The bill is seen as a shot across the bow toward states like California that bill themselves as “sanctuary” states for transgender people seeking medical services

Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 16 years, effectively ensuring the former Hollywood mogul and convicted rapist will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Weinstein’s sentencing was held in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday morning, nearly two months after his Los Angeles trial concluded with a jury convicting him on three counts of rape and sexual assault.
Weinstein is already serving a 23-year sentence in New York, after being convicted of rape and sexual assault in that jurisdiction in his 2020 criminal trial.

The operators of the Norfolk Southern train involved in a toxic derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, earlier this month received a "critical audible alarm message instructing the crew to slow and stop the train to inspect a hot axle," according to a newly released National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) report Thursday.
The preliminary report said after hearing the warning from the hot bearing detector on Train 32N, the train’s engineer "increased the dynamic brake application to further slow and stop the train."
"The function of the HBD is to detect overheated bearings and provide audible real-time warnings to train crews," the report said.

Former President Donald Trump visited East Palestine, Ohio on Wednesday. He brought pallets of “Trump water”, food, and cleaning supplies. The residents of the small town were appreciative that Trump came and assured them that they were not forgotten.
Details of Trump’s visit were not released to the public, no doubt for security reasons, yet there were Trump supporters who stood out in the rain along the street waiting to wave to him as his vehicle drove by. Trump was accompanied by Donald Trump, Jr., Senator J.D. Vance, Rep. Bill Johnson, and East Palestine Mayor Trent Conaway,
Trump met briefly with local leaders and first responders
