Tampa, Fla. — A number of bills, including legislation on college athletic compensation, immigration response, and expanded powers for the Florida Statewide Prosecutor’s Office are on their way to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk to sign following last week’s special session.
The Florida Senate also approved a plan to have the state take over control of what’s currently the Reedy Creek Improvement District. The move has been seen as an effort to punish the company due to its criticism of Florida’s the Parental Rights in Education law, which restricts discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in public schools.

The unidentified flying object shot down in Canadian airspace on Saturday appeared to be a "small, metallic balloon with a tethered payload below it," according to a Pentagon memo sent to lawmakers on Monday and obtained by CNN.
The memo offers the first official details of one of the three objects shot down in recent days that was previously described as a "cylindrical object." The object crossed near "US sensitive sites" before it was shot down, the memo said.
Defense officials also wrote in the memo to lawmakers that the object shot down over Lake Huron, in Michigan on Sunday, "subsequently slowly descended" into the water after impact.

Multiple people were reported injured at Michigan State University after shootings at two locations were reported on the East Lansing campus Monday night, university police said.
Students were urged to "secure in place" as officials searched for a suspect. "Run, Hide, Fight," an alert sent to students about 8:30 p.m. said. "Run means evacuate away from danger if you can do so safely, Hide means to secure-in-place, and Fight means protect yourself if no other option."
University police tweeted that shots had been fired near Berkey Hall and that anyone in the area should shelter in place.

Let’s start with the balloon whose story is the most clear, i.e. the Chinese spy balloon that flew over the US this month. That balloon was shot down over the ocean off the coast of South Carolina. You may have seen photos of portions of the balloon being pulled into a boat. These images were taken last week. Today the DOD released even more photos of the ongoing recovery effort. All of this material appears to be part of the skin of the balloon which was a couple hundred feet across. But the bigger news is that we’ve now recovered a major piece of the payload

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby on Monday dismissed concerns that a string of unidentified airborne objects shot down by the U.S. in recent days are related to aliens or extraterrestrial activity.
“I don’t think the American people need to worry about aliens with respect to these craft,” Kirby said during a press briefing on Monday. “I don’t think there’s any more that needs to be said there.”
Kirby’s comments come one day after a top U.S. general said he hadn’t ruled anything out when asked specifically about the possibility of aliens as it relates to three objects shot down over the weekend.

The U.S. on Monday issued a top-level advisory telling American citizens to leave Russia immediately and cease travel to the country as Russia’s war against neighboring Ukraine continues, citing risks of harassment and wrongful detention for Americans specifically.
“Do not travel to Russia due to the unpredictable consequences of the unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian military forces, the potential for harassment and the singling out of U.S. citizens for detention by Russian government security officials, the arbitrary enforcement of local law, limited flights into and out of Russia, the Embassy’s limited ability to assist U.S. citizens in Russia, and the possibility of terrorism,”

President Biden has fired the Architect of the Capitol, Brett Blanton, on Monday, a White House official told The Hill, following outrage over an inspector general report that found Blanton misused a government vehicle and allegedly impersonated a law enforcement officer.
“After doing our due diligence, the Architect of Capitol was terminated at the President’s direction,” the official said. The president’s move comes hours after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) called for Blanton to step down or be removed Biden.
House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil (R-Wis.) and Ranking Member Joe Morelle (D-N.Y.) had also called for the resignation

Last week, news broke that American Thinker and other conservative internet sites were the subjects of a successful campaign to defund them by telling advertisers that their content was misleading. That’s bad. What’s worse is that we’re learning that the State Department was helping fund the campaign to defund conservative media.
The Washington Examiner revealed in a two-part report (here and here) how various organizations claimed to track “disinformation.” That “disinformation,” of course, was anything that countered the Democrat narrative on politics and social issues. American Thinker was among the list of 39 conservative sites that also included Newsbusters, Town Hall, Rush Limbaugh, Daily Wire, Breitbart, etc.

EXCLUSIVE — Microsoft has removed negative flags for conservative media outlets that have blocked them from reaping key advertising dollars amid the corporation launching an internal review and suspending its subscription to a "disinformation" tracking group's blacklist used to "defund" disfavored speech, according to internal data obtained by the Washington Examiner.
The Microsoft-owned Xandr, a major advertising company, previously abided by a secret blacklist of conservative news compiled by the Global Disinformation Index, a British organization with two affiliated U.S. nonprofit groups. Now, as Microsoft appears to be taking steps to distance itself from GDI , the company has, for the time being, deleted flags such as "false/misleading" and "reprehensible/offensive"

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced a series of new proposals on Monday aimed at cracking down on the use of so-called Environmental, Social, and Governance criteria in investment decisions involving state and local funds.
The ESG movement promotes an investment discipline which emphasizes not just financial returns, but also grades companies on things such as their ethics, board diversity, political donations, and sustainability efforts. Speaking during a press conference in Naples on Monday, DeSantis defined ESG as a “mechanism to inject political ideology into investment decisions, corporate governance, and really just the everyday economy.”
As part of the proposed legislation DeSantis unveiled was a plan to codify into statute

Beijing/Washington - China said on Monday that U.S. high altitude balloons had flown over its airspace without permission more than 10 times since the beginning of 2022, drawing a swift denial from Washington.
China's accusation widened a dispute with the United States that began last weekend after the U.S. military shot down what it says was a Chinese spy balloon, prompting top U.S. diplomat Antony Blinken to cancel a trip to Beijing designed to ease tensions. "Since last year, the U.S.'s high-altitude balloons have undergone more than 10 illegal flights into Chinese airspace without the approval of the relevant Chinese departments," Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin

An asteroid has exploded over the English Channel after entering Earth's atmosphere in the early hours of this morning.
The small 1m asteroid, currently designated as Sar2667, created a shooting star and an 'airburst' when it exploded. It was visible from across most of southern England and Wales - and as far south as Paris, France.
American Physicist and airburst specialist Mark Boslough from the Los Alamos National Laboratory told Wales Online that while "airbursts of this size happen somewhere several times per year" they are "rarely discovered in advance."
He said this was only the seventh time in history one had been discovered advance.
