Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is on the cusp of making a final decision on a 2024 presidential run.
(snip)On Monday, David McIntosh, the president of the conservative Club for Growth, told reporters that the group had invited DeSantis to its annual donor retreat and was hoping to feature him as a keynote speaker.
DeSantis wasn’t the only 2024 prospect to land an invite to the gathering. The Club also extended invitations to former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, former Vice President Mike Pence, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) and Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.). Trump was notably left off that list.

I'd prefer a Trump/Desantis ticket to control the WH for the next 12 years, but I also would like Desantis to stay where he is until 2028 because he's the only republican governor truly kicking butt and taking names.

DeSantis looks and sounds good. Then you learn he's from the Bush school of politics. He is embedded with the GOPe. At his inaugueration (sp) Jeb Bush was there and they hugged afterward. So on paper DeSantis is great and I admit I like him, but he's another wolf in sheeps clothing. So let's go carefully here.

I think DeSantis should sit this one out. It's probably going to be one term, no matter who wins. He can then run in 2028. He should not be taken in by the anti-Trump groups like Club for Growth. It will just split the Republican party, just like the Democrat hope.

Am I the only one who doesn't think this is bad? For two reasons, this is good for us if there is a Trump/DeSantis primary: 1) DeSantis is on fire right now and now is the time for him to strike if he's going too. I remember 2012, that was the only time Sarah Palin could have struck, but she didn't pull the trigger, probably thinking she had a better opportunity in 2016... she had no opportunity, she missed her time. Now, she can even win a congressional seat in Alaska and 2) President Trump needs a hard push and DeSantis is just the man to give it to him. Admit it, President Trump made several errors in his 1st time, especially in 2020. He needs to be challenged by the right on these things and if he up to the challenge, it will sharpen him, preparing acutely for the 2024 election. If he isn't up to it, DeSantis will be sharpened and ready to go after the left. So, relax Repubs... we actually need a widely viewed primary dealing with conservative issues and solutions and use it to march to victory in 2024.

In order to run DeSantis must resign as Governor per Florida Law. I did not vote for him to do this.

It's still popular to be all-in for Trump but habitually lying about DeSantis is the democrat-like way to try and sway others to support your guy or gal. In 2016, candidate Trump's lack of experience in national-level politics was positively touted to frame Trump as the swamp-cleaning "outsider," while DeSantis' national-level inexperience is now framed as a liability, despite his record as popular governor of a large, diverse state. I guess it it makes little to no difference because I believe the universe of voters in '24 will vote for whomever in huge numbers - and the democrats will be unified, coming out of the primaries.

I want our nominee to be the one who has the best chance of beating the rotten democrats. If it’s Trump, so be it. If it’s DeSantis, so be it. I’m pretty certain Nikki Hayley wouldn’t be the best choice. We need to support and vote if we don’t want another four years of Joe and his losers.

If I still lived in Florida, I would chain him to the governor's office. He is one of the few competent politicians in the country.
