Did the prolonged fight for the Speaker’s gavel create circumstances for change in Washington -- especially in the Republican party? For the first time in over a century, it took 15 rounds of voting, cajoling, compromise, and almost one fistfight to select a Speaker of the House. The MSM gleefully reported on the “Republican clown show,” predicting that the conflict would split the party. They even fantasized that it could result in a Democrat Speaker, in a majority Republican House of Representatives. What a sweet victory that would be. Well, the Republicans didn’t break up, the Democrats didn’t pull off an upset, and the MSM was blind to

My congresscritter, French Hill, is running around the local press telling them how much he helped McCarthy get the job, this on the heels of our two Senators voting FOR the $1.2 T monstrosity. Arkansas needs to take a hard look at its "Republicans."

Let's hope so because America is circling the drain faster and faster. Klaus, Soros, Obie, Xi, and the Gatester have been most pleased with America's progress to self-destruct. Let us make them wrong.

I have a fear that McCarthy made those concessions with as much sincerity as 0bama saying "You can keep your doctor..." He got permission from the Schumer/Turtle gang to do it just to get across.. He is a died in the wool RINO. Time will tell...

Pubbies turn things around or the world sees the Apocalypse. My advice is to prepare for the worst. Read your Bible & pray, have community, prep food, water, precious metals, & brass.

Don't get your hopes up over one feisty moment. McCarthy wanted that job badly, nothing more.

It sounds great, but without a GOP president and Senate, the bills will go nowhere, except releasing Jan 6 information which McCarthy can do. If just one Republication Representative can call for a vote on the speaker, can a Democrat do so also? The next two years could be a clown act of constant voting for Speaker.

Has there ever been a time in our history when year after year all members of one party consistently voted in lockstep? Unanimity is not a trademark of a heathy democracy. It is a sign of iron-fisted control. One of our parties behaves as if its members are afraid to dissent themselves, and try to stifle dissent elsewhere. Be glad Republicans demonstrate some independence.

The twenty republicans that held mccarthy's feet to the fire have my respect and loyalty...they did it...not McCarthy...and I will watch McCarthy closely to see he follows through on the changes...

The battle for the the Speakership was really a battle within the Republican Party. It was a much needed battle, and has made it plain that conservatives are not going to tolerate this country being taking into socialism. A fight has been started and it is never going away.

So if Joe is impeached and VP Harris is determined incompetent and is also impeached - lord knows they should not be hard to do- does McCarthy become president?

The author is right. The Dems were shortsighted and blew it.
But I'm not surprised.
