I don’t know exactly when I became a fan of Charlie Brown and the “Peanuts” characters, but I can remember them being a huge part of my elementary school years, along with a group of friends who loved the comic strip. One thing I do know: A Charlie Brown Christmas has always been a part of my holiday celebrations, including this Christmas.
Every year growing up, we would watch A Charlie Brown Christmas when it came on television. It was always on CBS, and Peter Paul candies sponsored it — I still remember the York Peppermint Patty and “Sometimes you feel like a nut” commercials.

Smart you, OP. I couldn’t find it either. More wokeness?
We always loved the Peanuts gang. Charlie and Lucy (there had to be a bad guy), Pigpen, Peppermint Patty, Schroeder, and of course Snoopy (who definitely said it best: “Bleah”). I feel that I’ve missed someone - or more. Tweety?
Halloween was never Halloween without waiting for the Great Pumpkin in the Pumpkin Patch. And Christmas not Christmas without “A Charlie Brown Christmas”…So fie on those withholding it. May your stockings be filled with lumps of coal. (That oughtta fix you forever with your crowd.)
To everyone else, Merry Christmas...

A Charlie Brown Christmas debuted the same year I was born and the Peanuts gang have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. And I have never outgrown them. I remember being chastised by mother when I was a teenager for buying paperback compilations of the Peanuts strips. She said comics were for kids. But I knew better. Sorry, Mom, I still do. Earlier this year I lucked into a private tour of a Charles Schulz exhibit being held at the Ohio State University library. I was in heaven.

One of the best parts of Christmas is the Charlie Brown special. I love the backstory of the Hollywood types going bananas over the Gospel message being included. They put a lot pressure on Mr. Schultz to take it out, but he kept his position knowing he held all the cards. He was serving God. This gem is still being enjoyed by families 57 years on. Our country, and the world, will survive our current crisis as the faithful awaken the "woke" to the Eternal Word. Our Messiah is born! Glory to God in the Highest!
Merry Christmas to all my Ldotter friends!

There was one version of it that only aired once, when Charlie Brown is skating at the beginning and hits a Coca Cola sign. Details are sketchy because I saw it years ago, but it was kind of a treat to see.

It never quite feels like Christmas until Linus breaks it down with the Gospel of Luke, then the kids loo loo loo Hark the Herald Angels Sing around the Christmas tree. Still gives me goosebumps every time.

Slightly off tangeant:
Listening to our Christmas song shuffle (including Vince Guaraldi’s jazz numbers from ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’), it then came to Mannheim Steamroller. Every time I hear them, it reminds me when Rush Limbaugh used their songs as bumper music during the Holidays. And then Rush would play their version of ‘Silent Night’ for EIB’s last episode of the year. It was particularly poignant when Rush aired his final Christmas episode on December 23, 2020, playing Mannheim Steamroller’s ‘Silent Night’ for the last time.
I really miss Rush.

Ah, A Charlie Brown Christmas. It came out in 1965, perfect timing for my siblings and I. The DVD is part of my collection since you never know when the alphabet channels will suddenly have a problem airing it. Supposedly the sale of artificial trees plummeted in 1966 due to the commercialization of Christmas displayed in this classic cartoon. The really funny thing is we had an artificial silver Christmas tree back then. There was a light and rotating wheel that went with it which had green, red, orange and blue colors. I really miss that tree, especially now since my mother passed away this last March, and she really loved Christmas. Anyways, Merry Christmas to all!

So lovely reading everyone’s memories.
I found a card this year featuring the Peanuts gang. You opened it and out popped all of them, singing Hark The Herald Angels Sing. It was absolutely joyful.
I sent one to my sister and one to my brother. You would have thought I’d mailed them a million dollars. For just a minute we were little kids together again.

Charlie Brown has always been wholesome entertainment. This year, I decided to give my gift list a Charlie Brown Christmas. There is Peanuts merchandise for every age, you name it, it's probably out there. I started collecting it in July, such that one room in my home was a river of Peanuts goodies. The Charlie Brown Christmas DVD comes both stand alone and as part of a Peanuts group of specials. There are a number of other nostalgic DVD Peanuts collections too. I collected board books, music books, paperback books, CDs, DVDs, beach towels, various card games, stuffed animals, various clothing, coasters, various jigsaw puzzles, platters, Charles Schulz book, the famed Christmas tree with ornament, Hallmark ornaments, dish towels, animatronics, mugs, coffee cups, and much more. And of course, wrapping them all up in Peanuts gift wrap!
The Countdown to Christmas book is marvelous, little 2-3 pages stories for each day from December 1-25. I mailed those in November mostly to 4-6 year old recipients. It went over huge with both kids and parents. Very educational. I tell you what, this gift theme has been a load of fun to put together. Another good thing, it gives the kids something positive, and could wean them away from Disney garbage. A win-win.
Wishing all of you a Charlie Brown Christmas, celebrating the day when love came down from heaven to Earth. God bless us, everyone.

I heard some company bought the rights to the movie and have taken it off the market because it talks about the birth of Jesus.

RE #11:
I was able to find it at Walmart just few days ago. It wasn't available on Amazon Prime because of the Apple thing and they weren't even shipping out copies of the DVD until after Christmas. I consider myself lucky that Wally's had a copy when I looked for it.

"A Charlie Brown Christmas" and the 1951 version of "Scrooge" with Alastair Sim are just wonderful and are watched every Christmas in our household. We have DVDs of both.

I bought the DVD last year so I could always have access to this beloved program. I showed it to my elementary school students, and even had a discussion about the true meaning of Christmas (answers varied). Merry Christmas!

At the risk of sounding like a heretic, there was one song from this otherwise iconic and cherished childhood memory that still triggers me to this day: 'Christmas Time Is Here'. My kids know it as one of the highlights on the Dad Mix of "Songs to Slit Your Wrists By" (along with the entire soundtrack to 'Pride and Prejudice').
The problem may be that I identified too strongly with Charlie Brown when I was 6 . . . but my wife Lucy says I turned out fine.

There have been posters mentioning the Peanuts classics about the Great Pumkin and LInus' aside while the children were going wild at the "christmas play". Charlie Brown is an 'everyman' kind of character like John Candy became in his roles.
We could relate to the characters from Schultz' childhood as if they were people we sould run into everytday and it was familiar and comfortable. IT WAS THE AMERICA that is now GONE. No more innocence is left. Children can no longer be children under the guidance of parents because of technology and what is pushed on them as school, kids can no longer be kids. Being a parent tend to mature those who are not, but often nowadays, parental authority is challenged with efforts to treat children wards wards of the state.
I too was one who made it a point to hear Rush Limbaugh's final live broadcast of the year when he would go back to his disk jockey days and play the Mannheim Steamrolloer version of "Schtille Nacht". I wept during the song, and broke down crying after hearing the huge wind at the end of it knowing it was the "end" of the song and that Rush never forgot his audience who put him where he was and was forever grateful for it.
Like Linus bringing the lesson of what "Christmas was all about" to Charlie Brown, like wise, Rush was a calming influence to the world full of craziness and controversy. I wonder how the last three years might have been different if Rush were still around giving spine to our base who grew up in the world of Charles Schultz.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord!
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babewrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of theheavenly host praising God, and saying: Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth, good will toward men.
That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown

This was the first time that the Peanuts (Little Folks) kids came to life on TV. I remember watching it in glorious black and white for the first time in 1965 as a 12 year old. It was magical then and it is just as magical today.

Something I had never noticed watching the show, but was pointed out to me a few years ago which now sticks with me.
Throughout the show, and in all of the cartoons, Linus will never part with his blanket, his security blanket. That is, until he is telling the real meaning of Christmas and comes to the angel saying, "Fear not." At that point, Linus drops his blanket and does not pick it back up for the rest of the show.

I also love to watch Charlie Brown Christmas. I wasn't able to find it broadcast this year since I don't have Apple TV, so I went out and purchased the DVD. Now I can watch it whenever I want. Merry Christmas!!
