A massive aquarium inside the lobby of a posh Berlin hotel burst Friday morning, sending over 200,000 gallons of water and 1,500 tropical fish into the streets.
At least two people were injured when the 52-foot-tall AquaDom aquarium exploded at the Radisson Blu hotel shortly before 6 a.m. local time, German police said. Three hundred guests were evacuated from the hotel by over 100 first responders.
A video of the aftermath of the incident shows glass and other debris scattered through the lobby and out into the road.

Reminds me of that scene in “Mission Impossible” when Tom Cruise blew up the aquarium in the hotel in Prague, using that tricky chewing gum folded in half. Remember? “Hasta lasagna - don’t get any on ya!”

However ingenious and clever structural engineering is, there’s always a chance for disaster. I think about that whenever I visit these aquariums with the monstrous glass plates, keeping the fish and water contained. With the total mass of the fish and the weight of water, there’s huge pressure there.

Crack formed due to extreme cold. In other news, ... businesses and residents throughout Europe are told to conserve energy due to the energy crisis.

I would bet it had something to do with the energy crisis in Europe. Some genius decided they could save energy by not heating the area surrounding the aquarium. The freezing temperature then could have caused the crack in the glass.

The article says glass laying around. All of the large aquariums that I am familiar with use acrylic plastic, also known as plexiglass, not glass.
I wonder of someone did something to intentionally damage it? So many lunatic leftists these days with totally deranged ideas. Perhaps someone wanted to "free" the fish. Irrational behavior seems to be incredibly common these days that I always wonder about this sort of an "accident".

Oh boo hoo, the lobby got wet. I see precious little sympathy for the fish, who had to live their lives in slavery for the amusement of gawking humans, and then lose their lives in a tank that broke because the humans who built it had no real idea what they were doing. No animals, including fish, should be condemned to live in captivity. Are we so cruel that we still allow animals to suffer, be forced to perform in zoos, aquariums, roadside "attractions"? You live in your own natural habitat, yet you deny that comfort to animals?

True story.
My fahter, who we called Unreasonable Chester, raised tropical fish as a side hustle when I was a baby.
He put the aquariam in the warmest room in our house, which was my room, and he placed it it next to my crib.
So a baby lakerman tossed his milk bottle into the aquarium, when he was about 6 months old. All of the fish ided.
And Unreasonable Chester never stopped reminding the lakerman of his bad act. Even when the lakerman became a Ph.D. credentialed professor.
