Trump violates Reagan’s 11th commandment,
attacks Ron DeSantis

I will always be grateful for the presidency of Donald Trump and, if he is the GOP nominee for president in 2024, I will support him. But I am very disturbed that yesterday, at an airport rally in Pennsylvania, he attacked Ron DeSantis...with one of his derisive nicknames, except that this one doesn’t even make any sense: President Reagan of blessed memory left us with a very useful 11th commandment: “Thou shalt not attack another Republican." In today’s political environment, with the Democrat party in the hands of the radical left, and wrecking our economy, society and ability to defend ourselves, defeating them and taking control

It wasn’t even a brushback. Trump.whiffed. it became inoculation. “Men ought either to be well treated or crushed, because they can avenge themselves of lighter injuries, of more serious ones they cannot; therefore the injury that is to be done to a man ought to be of such a kind that one does not stand in fear of revenge.” - Niccolò Machiavelli

That’s because RD endorsed O’Day who is not Trump supporter. RD doesn’t want the democrat to win. So he is loyal to the party and Trump doesn’t see it that way. Remember how Trump put the hammer down on Ted Cruz?

I would rather that it was not said. But IMO, it’s not a big deal. The tepid crowd response, I am sure was picked up by Trump. In 2024 the great Uniter of Democrats is going to be Americans’ love of liberty. Trump or not they know it will be an existential moment for them. Warts and all Trump will be a better candidate to face that. 2028 is the best time for DeSantis. As Trump’s Veep or otherwise.

What Thomas Lifson said. If I see Trump's name on my 2024 ballot, he'll get my vote. But I'd prefer DeSantis... primarily because Orange Man thrives on divisiveness. (The polar opposite of Ronald Reagan, who gently persuaded Democrats to his way of thinking.) I'm pretty much the lone Trump supporter in a house full of traditional Republicans, because the others put "Trump the man" in front of his policies, which are winners.

That was really petty and downright foolish. And I say that as someone who voted for Trump twice and would do so again if he is our candidate. Ron DeSantis has been an excellent governor and doesn't deserve this kind of treatment from anyone, much less someone in his own party who should be forming alliances with as many quality people as possible. Instead, Trump's ego continues to be his primary focus. Sorry, but it's time for Trump to either get over his petty ego issues and build up his alliances or step aside. He will not be successful if he keeps trying to make it as a one-man show.

Funny how writers like Lifson are okay when DeSantis is jabbing at Trump, but boy don't you dare respond Mr. President. DeSantis is more guilty of violation of Reagan's 11th commandment than Trump is. So are all the RINO cucks who hammered and anklebit Trump while he was in office.

#2 is correct. Ron Desantis started this tiff. Joe O'Dea, totally unprompted, came out and said he will actively campaign against The Donald in 2024 and then Desantis, also unprompted, came out and endorsed O'Dea. If O'Dea is defeated Tuesday this tiff will disappear and right now the race is to close to call. O'Dea is on my ballot, I will hold my nose and vote for him knowing well what I'm getting. He's not ( I hope ) as bad as Romney but he is certainly better than the dem senator we are now stuck with. ps- the nickname almost fits if you watch the horrid advertisement he put out over the weekend. That said I would still certainly vote for Desantis if he were on the ballot.

Yeah, I also prefer Trump had not made the comment about Desantis. However, Trump is the political equivalent of Patton and we all know he can become too aggressive at times. However, like Pattton, he also knows how to win. The progressive left will not back down and will never let up. Never. That is the true value of Trump, he will battle then to the gates of hell and back. I've seen no other republican with his courage, steadfastness, ruthlessness against the enemy, and staying power. When one considers all the possible motivators behind his desire to be President again, it always seems to me at the the the list is his love of the American people. And a lot of hatred of the progressive left along with their America last policies.

We watched President Trump in Miami tonight and he was quite the gentleman. As He said his wife, Melania, told him not to say b.s. so he wouldn't, but the crowd started chanting it. I think the media is trying to stir up trouble in the conservative movement. As #7 ChattyCatsSusan stated others have said far worse about President Trump and he's said nothing. Don't let the media stir you up!!! The Left and the Media want Trump out in 2024, so anything they can do to destroy the public's support of him would be their goal. Politics is not bean bag. BTW, we do not believe Gov. DeSantis wants to run for president in 2024. DeSantis is a smart cookie, he knows he would divide the party, he knows he's very popular in Florida and 2028 is not that far away. He's a young man and has plenty of time to run.

Thats the one thing I dread about another Trump run. All the good things will be lessened by his making me cringe so much of the time. Sure, he beats the communists by a mile, but I get so tired of trying to rationalize his obnoxious New Yorkiness all the time. If he runs I will certainly vote for him, but I think in the balance I would be more comfortable with DeSantis.

Today at Miami rally President Trump clearly stated “You’re going to re-elect Ron DeSantis as your Governor.” He also emphasized the rally was for Marco Rubio and about getting control over DC by re-electing Marco Rubio and the other Florida candidates. We are the ones perpetuating this minor two word event. Suggest we not help the press by posting and commenting on a blip.

I have to disagree, Mr. Lifson (I really enjoy reading your articles, by the way) but as we all know, when our President has something on his mind or something to say or an opinion he's is by no means shy in making his feelings known, according to his positivity/negativity scale and there was something on his mind that Ron DeSantis did that wasn't quite what our President felt should have been said or done by Ron DeSantis so, he gave him a nick name. Ron DeSantis has nothing to be concerned about in this election so, right now it is a non-issue

Yes, Ronald Reagan said not to disparage one's own party. I am torn here because, in 2016, where were other Republicans following that advice? After Scott Walker terminated his presidency campaign, he came back to Wisconsin and said not to vote for Donald Trump. There are other examples along the way but Liz Cheney is the biggest one right now. Along those lines, I do want Trump to follow that advice. He will be the better man for it. . .

Unlike in Reagan's day, there are many republicans in government today that should be attacked (verbally, just to be clear). RINOs were almost an unknown species back then but John McCain, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Liz Cheney and others have propagated the herd to dangerous levels. Not that you have to go along with everything like the democrat rubber stampers do but there are reasons for becoming a republican and constantly voting with the democrats is not one of them.

If you want a bit of schadenfreude on Election Eve, some new polls might leave you grinning. Over the weekend, new data showed Democrats that minorities are migrating to Republican candidates in a historic shift, and the electorate sees them as focused on all the wrong things. All Democrats had to do was not be crazy. Biden inherited an economy in recovery and a nation looking to take a collective deep breath. Instead, Democrats decided to destroy the economy and push transing the kids. Voters noticed. According to a Wall Street Journal poll, 17% of black voters would pick a Republican candidate for Congress.

On Monday morning ahead of Tuesday’s almost certain Republican tsunami at the ballot box, ABC’s Good Morning America (GMA) and CBS Mornings moved away from a fixation on abortion or vague warnings about the fate of democracy if voters choose incorrectly. Instead, they engaged in voter suppression by hinting a vote for Republicans could be enabling violent individuals who’d cause violence and/or cause serious doubts to be raised about our country’s future. GMA co-host Amy Robach didn’t mince words, insisting there are “rising voting threats” as “[i]ntelligence officials say extremists could target election infrastructure, personnel, or even voting sites.”

We’re all paying attention to five or six big races and one that is just under the surface is the gubernatorial race in Oklahoma. The race between Republican incumbent Governor Kevin Stitt and Democrat Joy Hofmeister is a real sleeper of an election. The red state governor may well lose to his Democrat challenger and that is not good news in a red wave election cycle. In the middle of October some headlines began surfacing about Oklahoma’s gubernatorial race because it was turning out to be an unexpected squeaker. Governor Stitt, I wrote at the time, was expected to win re-election but it was predicted to be a close race

The predicted Red Wave now looks inevitable, as we have watched The Sudden Republican Momentum® narrative unfold as expected in such cycles. Despite a last-moment Hail Mary from NBC News in giving Dems a +1 in their latest generic-ballot poll — which would still look good for Republicans — the current RCP aggregate average gives the GOP a 2.5% advantage and support at a year-long high. As the lull before the storm continues prior to election day, the takes continue to get dumber. Republicans have begun a new round of dooming based on what can only be called a late vibe shift (i.e. not backed by real data), but Democrats aren’t exactly exhibiting confidence either. Enter Politico, which decided it’d be a great idea to drop an article about election fraud on the eve of voters going to the polls. Guess which party they think is going to try to “steal” the election this time and then try not to break your ribs from laughing so hard.

Roll the tape back to early March of 2020, when the Democratic establishment closed ranks around Joe Biden after he had performed miserably in all of the early primaries. Miami - Former President Donald Trump held back from criticizing Florida Gov. His pivot came a day after the former president publicly chided DeSantis during a rally in Pennsylvania, calling him “Ron DeSanctimonious.” It was one of the most direct shots yet Trump took at the governor — a likely 2024 rival if both men run for the Republican nomination for president. It was Trump’s first attempt at branding the Florida governor with one of his well-known nicknames.
