Houston - Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto hit a tiebreaking home run in the top of the 10th inning, leading to a stunning 6-5 victory against the Houston Astros in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night.
The Phillies scored six straight runs after trailing 5-0 early in the game.
Realmuto deposited a 3-2 fastball by Astros reliever Luis Garcia into the right-field stands, sending his dugout into a frenzy. The home run came moments after Phillies right fielder Nick Castellanos made a sliding catch in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the tie.
The game had no scoring from the fifth inning until Realmuto's home run,

Paul Pelosi reportedly told 911 dispatch that the individual who allegedly attacked him with a hammer in his home “is a friend,” according to a police dispatch call early Friday morning.
The alleged intruder reportedly attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer, which forced him to undergo emergency surgery for his injuries. Officers later identified 42-year-old Berkeley resident David DePape as Pelosi’s attacker. DePape was reportedly wearing only underwear when officers arrived on the scene. He was taken into custody and will be charged with multiple felonies, including attempted murder, San Francisco district attorney Brooke Jenkins announced.

The increased cost of living is taking its toll on seniors in the United States.
Persistently high inflation has caused essentials such as food, gasoline and home utilities to eat into Americans’ paychecks. And the demand for housing, an issue predating the pandemic, has only increased, making it more difficult to secure affordable living spaces.
But the economic squeeze in the United States has been felt more acutely by seniors who are on fixed incomes and are looking to age in place.
Older adults are facing uncertainty amid major life changes, and like millions of others, they are again looking for roommates to split costs.

A scheduler for Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA) was unceremoniously fired this week after an investigation found that she was also working on behalf of the Chinese embassy to attempt to set up meetings between the embassy and Capitol Hill staffers who were working on bills the embassy wanted to weigh in on. From National Review, which broke the story Friday morning:
A source familiar with the situation said that the House sergeant at arms (SAA) notified Beyer’s office on Tuesday that Hamlett had requested meetings with different congressional offices on behalf of people at the Chinese embassy, after staffers in other offices reported being contacted by her.

COVID likely started circulating in China is late 2019–now 3 years ago–and its effects have dominated our lives for 2 1/2 years.
Yet for much of that time the Establishment™ has been gaslighting us about its likely origins. You know that. The Establishment™ knows that you know. And now the Senate Republicans on the health committee are laying the facts out on the table. COVID almost certainly was released accidentally from a Chinese research lab.
It was remarkable how quickly the Narrative™ settled on the zoonotic origin of the virus, since warning signs that the virus didn’t originate naturally were everywhere. Even scientists who confidently declared in private

President Biden on Friday called the attack on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) husband at their San Francisco home “despicable” and suggested it was a natural progression from lies Republicans have spread about the 2020 election.
“This is despicable. There’s no place in America. There’s too much violence, political violence, too much hatred, too much vitriol,” Biden said at the start of remarks to Pennsylvania Democrats.“And what makes us think that one party can talk about stolen elections, COVID being a hoax, that it’s all a bunch of lies, and it not affect people who may not be so well balanced,” Biden continued.

Left-wing Twitter users had a collective meltdown on Thursday and Friday after Tesla CEO Elon Musk officially completed his takeover of the social media platform and promptly fired top left-wing executives at the company.
After officially becoming the owner of Twitter, Musk fired top executives, such as CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, and Vijaya Gadde, head of “trust and safety,” who was notorious for her fanatical left-wing censorship campaign, which included suspending former President Donald Trump’s account. Musk also had Tesla engineers review Twitter’s software code and locked out Twitter engineers, preventing them from making any further changes to the platform.

Amid the finalization of Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, former president Trump, who was permanently banned from the platform in January 2021, said he will be staying on Truth Social, the social media company he created, even if his old account gets reinstated.
He called Truth a “better” and “safe” alternative to Twitter that feels “like home” in an interview with Fox News Friday. Trump applauded Musk for buying Twitter, saying: “I like Elon and I wish him a lot of luck. I hope he does well with it.”
Acknowledging the influence he once commanded on the site, Trump said, “I don’t think Twitter can be successful without me.”

In case you’ve been blissfully living under a rock and off the grid, you probably know by now that billionaire businessman Elon Musk is the brand-spanking-new owner of the notorious social media cesspool that is Twitter. The self-proclaimed “Chief Twit” Musk is reportedly set to officially close the deal on Friday, which left many leftist Twitter users and employees on Thursday night in fits of apprehensive whining hysteria the likes of which we’ve not seen since Election Night 2016. And it was glorious.

Jerry Lee Lewis, the rock ’n’ roll trailblazer and piano virtuoso who electrified audiences with his raucous, free-wheeling performances but attracted scandal after he married his 13-year-old cousin, died Friday, his publicist said.
He was 87. Lewis was a consummate showman who gleefully blended the styles of Black rhythm-and-blues musicians, country crooners and ecstatic Pentecostal preachers. He was nicknamed “the Killer,” and his admirers believed he could be the next Elvis Presley.

The Edinburgh Evening News is reporting that the UK government has developed its plans for dealing with the energy crisis this winter, and it is reminiscent of the rationing from World War II. It has been known for quite a while that rationing was likely, but the plans for how to implement it have been finalized.
Britons should prepare to lose electricity to their home for as little as 9 hours a week (in 3 hour time blocks) to as much as 45 hours a week (15 three hour time blocks). In the worst case the grid could shut down entirely, providing electricity to only emergency services and other vital industries.

Having successfully acquired Twitter after months of legal quagmires, Elon Musk now plans to reverse lifetime bans for Twitter users who were kicked off the platform for various speech infractions.
The tech titan doesn’t believe in barring an individual from the social-media site for life, a source told Bloomberg. Twitter has permanently removed a number of political personalities, many of whom are considered right-wing internet provocateurs or conspiracy theorists. They include Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, Project Veritas Founder James O’Keefe, Steve Bannon, Alex Jones, Milo Yiannopoulos, and most significantly, former president Trump.
