The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has officially canceled the winter snow crab season, according to CBS News.
What we know:
It is the first time in history this has ever been done, however, it is now necessary due to the crabs’ rapidly declining numbers in the Bering Sea. According to state officials, it is estimated that one billion crabs have vanished in two years. This constitutes a 90% population loss.
The nation’s seafood industry will no doubt feel the effects as seafood lovers will not be able to find the crustaceans in restaurants and markets. And scientists are concerned about how the sudden decrease in population will affect the Arctic ecosystem.

Who determined the crabs are gone? Who counted them? Is this cancellation a ploy to give China exclusive access to the snow crab market? Just a few questions for the Feds since everything is suspect under the Biden administration.

My experience with snow crab found it to be a bland, soggy product. King crab is wonderful. Used to get a huge pile of it for $15 at a great place in Marina del Rey, CA. Enough forf a great feast and leftovers for the next day...

Exactly. Who made this determination? Why? On what evidence? This is exactly why we need to get rid of government... if there are no fish, there won't be any fishing. I think the free market can figure that out without six figure bureaucrats.

One thing is absolutely certain: It wasn't "global warming". But guess where they will end up putting the blame...

This smells like the same kind of bullcrap we got with the claim of plunging polar bear populations a few years ago. The active researchers admitted we haven't the before / after data to make those claims in the first place. And polar bear populations turned out not to be plunging (not even reducing in most places).

Like the weather, populations of animals vaty a lot.
I remember a trip across the southern desert country as a child, in the '50s. In one long, long portion of Rt 66 cars had smashed about 100+ jackrabbits per mile, because after a few miles of that, we started counting.
I've driven that route several times since as an adult with nothing remotely like thst carnage.
Odd forces change animal populations up and down, and we don't control them.

It's the Chinese and Japanese who fish without regard to damage to marine species, dragging reef areas, etc., and paying zero attention to warnings about depleting resources. The world needs to make them pay.

This is a market food shortage scheme. They didn’t vanish by magic. They are lying through their crab legs. Next the crab processing facilities will suddenly burst into flames and burn to the ice and snow covered ground.
