Country music star Loretta Lynn, known for her hits “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “You Ain’t Woman Enough,” has died. She was 90.
She died Tuesday at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, her family shared in a statement obtained by the Associated Press.
Lynn, the daughter of a Kentucky coal miner, made a name for herself by writing songs about life and love as a woman in Appalachia.
Already a mother to four children, she launched her career in the early 1960s,

A true icon. Young women could learn a lot from her about true grit and strength.

I've only heard bits and pieces about her young life. Without even knowing all the lurid details, she is no doubt one in a million who could have pulled the plug and taken the easier path on any given day but chose not to.

Ah, well.. she had a hell of a run. I started listening to Loretta back in 1967 when I heard “Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’ ( with Lovin’ On Your Mind)”. I heard a lot more of her songs while stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC in ‘70-71.
She was a great singer and songwriter - she could get away with lyrics like “you’re the reason our kids are ugly”. I lived in Ypsilanti, MI (known to the locals as Ypsi-Tucky) when “Coal Miner’s Daughter” was released. It must have played at one of the theaters for two or three months. Tommy Lee Jones should have gotten an Oscar for his role as her husband.
RIP, Loretta. You were one of a kind.

Loretta had a really, really hard life. Some of today's snowflakes would not be able to stand what she had to go through. But she kept going, kept working hard and she succeeded. Farewell to one of Kentucky's real music legends.

I never fully understood country mussic until I watched Ken Burns PBS series, Country Music. It was excellent, and explained a part of America that most of us are not aware of, fully..

While not a particular fan of her music, she was indeed an American icon and, by all accounts, a beautiful lady. Godspeed, Loretta.

Very sad news. While not too huge of a C & W fan, I always liked her and her contemporaries.
Condolences to her family and friends.
R.I.P. Loretta

Loretta Lynn is truly a legend, & she was a beautiful personification of “genuine”, in the good sense of the word. That is indeed “precious”, as her family called her, and relatively rare in the entertainment industry. She was genuinely beautiful, talented, and kindhearted and so much more. She loved her fans, and we loved her right back. She will continue to live on and be loved and respected through her music, and in our memories. Thank you, Loretta.

Nice lady and a wonderful singer/songwriter. I hate to lose her but the old cliche holds here...”time and tide wait for no man”. She had a nice run and was loved by millions. Not a bad way to leave the stage. RIP, honey.
