Actor Alec Baldwin appeared on CNN after the latest developments in his fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on a New Mexico movie set last October and once again showed that former President Donald J. Trump continues to live rent-free in his head. Following a newly-released FBI forensics report that concluded that the 64-year-old television and film star pulled the trigger on the “prop” gun that brought an end to Hutchins’ life during the filming of the western “Rust,” Baldwin played the victim by claiming that he feared that Trump would “instruct” his followers to act out violently against him after the tragic accident.

Alec Baldwin says the death of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins has cost him acting jobs and taken “years” off his life due to stress. The 64-year-old actor fatally shot Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza on the Rust set on 21 October, after assistant director David Halls allegedly handed him a prop gun that turned out to be loaded with live ammunition. In a new interview with CNN, Baldwin said he’d lost out on five jobs due to the fallout from the shooting, which he denies responsibility for. “I got fired from another job yesterday,” he said. “There I was all set to go to a movie,

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) expressed doubt that the Republican Party could gain a majority in the upper chamber in the midterm elections.
He cited "candidate quality" as a reason the GOP could struggle as it hopes to flip several swing seats and ward off Democratic bids for vulnerable Republican seats.

President Joe Biden is planning on hosting a “unity summit” to bring together Republicans and Democrats at the White House after the FBI raided former President Donald Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago. [snip] The White House stressed they wanted both Democrat and Republican public officials to attend, as well as civil rights organizations, faith and community leaders, technology and business leaders, and law enforcement officials. It is unclear which Republicans will be invited to attend or speak.

Republican Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa told Fox News on Friday that Mitch McConnell’s glum warning about the GOP’s Senate prospects in the midterms were an effort “to wake people up.” The Kentucky Republican Senator had said on Thursday, “I think there’s probably a greater likelihood the House flips than the Senate. Senate races are just different. They’re statewide. Candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome.” Many interpreted this as the minority leader attempting to downplay expectations, and were not pleased: But Grassley painted a rosier picture as he attended the Iowa State Fair:
We are going to take back the majority because of the fact

Just in case you needed yet another reason not to take the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) seriously, this story should suffice. The agency released a study on Friday recommending that people wear face masks, among other measures, to avoid catching monkeypox.
The problem? The precautions the CDC suggested do not line up with what the data shows about the spread of the illness.
This week’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) contained research on the spread of the monkeypox virus through contaminated surfaces. The study centered on two patients who lived together and had contracted the virus.

Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) said Friday on CNN’s “The Lead” that former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo no longer had a moral center. Kinzinger said, “Here’s what I think happens in a lot of cases. this is the FBI situation with the Republicans. You have a lot of members that know Donald Trump is a liar. They know he is insane. They stay kind of quiet.” (snip) Kinzinger concluded, “I gotta ask you, Jake, if Trump is so tough, if he’s so good at everything he does, how has he been such a victim of the deep state so many times?"

DENVER — Monkeypox cases are rapidly rising in the U.S. Cases surpassed 14,000 this week. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced more supply of the limited vaccine is on the way but now, people are urging health leaders to distribute the medicine to communities who need it. Health officials have delivered messaging on the disease’s impact on people in the gay community, but new demographic data shows monkeypox is disproportionately affecting people of color. “Similar to the data we experienced and what we saw with COVID-19, we are seeing overrepresentation of cases among some of our BIPOC

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was asked yesterday about Republican prospects for the November elections.
“I think there’s probably a greater likelihood the House flips than the Senate. Senate races are just different, they’re statewide, candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome,” McConnell replied.
The media and others on the left were of course thrilled with the Republican leader’s “notable quotable” disparagement of Republican candidates and the voters who chose them, which somehow came off even worse on video.
What was McConnell thinking? What in the world was he thinking?

Grab the popcorn, America, stuff just got really interesting.
Top aides of former President Donald Trump have suspected from the beginning that the FBI’s raid on Mar-a-Lago came after Trump was fingered by someone in his inner circle. As reported by The Guardian, both Trump and his aides now believe a family member may have tipped off the FBI about the exact location of classified documents — in a specific leather-bound box, along with the location of Trump’s safe. In another report that couldn’t sound more Nixonesque, Trump is allegedly becoming more and more paranoid, to the point of suspecting that even his wife Melania could be a possible FBI mole. Other family-member suspects include

According to one theology professor, the Bible is neutral when it comes to abortion.
On July 20, Melanie A. Howard, Associate Professor of Biblical & Theological Studies at Fresno Pacific University (FPU) in California, published an article in The Conversation explaining her view that the Bible neither condemns nor supports abortion.
FPU claims to be the only accredited Christian university in California’s Central Valley. “In the days since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade,” writes Howard, “some Christians have cited the Bible to argue why this decision should either be celebrated or lamented. But here’s the problem: This 2,000-year-old text says nothing about abortion.”

The Biden Administration is sending more drones, ammunition, and armored vehicles to aid Ukraine in its fight against Russia's invasion, as Ukraine continues to find ways to hit Russia with long-range rockets.
The latest package the Pentagon is announcing totals $775 million, and contains 16 Howitzer systems, 1,000 Javelin systems that have been hammering Russian armor, as well as an undisclosed number of HARM missiles that go after radar systems.
Also included are 15 ScanEagle drones, a low-altitude unmanned aerial vehicle made by Boeing, as well as 40 MRAPS, tactical vehicles meant to withstand improvised explosives.
