Hollywood studios have ignored a demand from more than 1,500 TV showrunners, writers, and directors urging the companies to commit to “abortion safety protocols,” as well as to promise to stop donating to pro-life political candidates.
Instead of addressing the specific demands, studios including Disney, Netflix, Amazon, and NBCUniversal issued a vaguely worded joint statement this week that recommended talent defer to their relevant union health plans. The studios said they are “continuing to evaluate ways that we can best provide for our employees and workers who support our productions.”
In their statement, the companies mostly avoided addressing the specific demands, which include commitments to providing abortion travel subsidies

A subpoena or even a phone would have sufficed, but a subpoena or a phone doesn’t send a “we can do whatever we want” message. Buying a home in the US is the least affordable it's been in 33 years as mortgage rates soar this year and home prices hit record highs.
The National Association of Realtors revealed Friday that its housing-affordability index - a metric that uses median existing-home prices, median family incomes and average mortgage rates to calculate home affordability - fell to 98.5 percent in June, the lowest level since 1989.

The conservative outlet published a leaked version of the search warrant that allowed the FBI to execute the raid hours before the document was unsealed Friday evening. Breitbart released a version of the warrant that included the names of the FBI special agent and supervisor agent who signed off on the receipts detailing the documents taken from the Mar-a-Lago residence — prompting widespread criticism that the outlet put a target on the agents.
A former director of national intelligence said Aug. 12 that it is “virtually impossible” to prosecute people for mishandling classified documents, and asserted that former President Donald Trump has the “ultimately declassification authority” in terms of such documents.

Instead of the original goal of quickly seizing Ukraine and turning it into a puppet state or a province (the name "Ukraine" is derived from the Russian word for “outskirts"), Russia has suddenly encountered an impenetrable wall of resistance.

In addition, fatal stabbings have increased by a whopping 43 percent in August 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. Furthermore, the rate of grand theft in NYC is up 48.3 percent, auto theft by 42 percent, robbery by 39.8 percent, rapes increased by 10%, and felonious assaults by 19.5 percent.

FORT WORTH, Texas - A man accused of flying a drone filled with drugs, phones, and mp3 players into a Fort Worth prison was arrested on Thursday.
Bryant LeRay Henderson, 42, was arrested at his home in Smithville and charged with one count of attempting to provide contraband in prison, one count of serving as an airman without an airman’s certificate, and one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, according to U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Chad E. Meacham.
According to court documents, Henderson flew a drone into a fenced-in section of FMC Fort Worth just before midnight on Wednesday, May 4.

Many Tijuana residents took shelter Friday evening after burning vehicles appeared throughout the city in what is suspected to be a coordinated act of organized crime.

U.S. citizens are being told to avoid the area, seek secure shelter, and monitor local media for updates.
The state of Florida will no longer cover “gender-affirming” care under Medicaid, the state’s Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) ruled Thursday.
Doctors will no longer be able to bill the state’s Medicaid program for procedures and drugs including sex changes, puberty blockers and hormone therapies beginning Aug. 21. Republican Florida Gov. The Senate-passed Inflation Reduction Act is expected to have almost zero impact on inflation, according to a new analysis.
A University of Pennsylvania Penn Wharton analysis released Friday revealed the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 would do little to reduce the annual rate of inflation in the midst of the economic recession. The bill would only reduce annual inflation by 0.1 percentage point over the next five years.
The study estimated that the small inflation reduction would begin only "once major deficit-reducing provisions of the legislation are fully implemented, but the Act would have no measurable impact on inflation after 2028.

Author Salman Rushdie is likely to lose one of his eyes and is currently on a ventilator after he was attacked on stage at a literary event in upstate New York on Friday, a report said.

The crime is upsetting enough, but the police response, or lack there of, was also upsetting to some parents.
