The birds no longer sing, and the herbs no longer grow. The fish no longer swim in rivers that have turned a murky brown. The animals do not roam, and the cows are sometimes found dead. Rare earths now reach into the lives of almost everyone on the planet, turning up in everything from hard drives and cellphones to elevators and trains. They are especially vital to the fast-growing field of green energy

This is stunning that it’s from the AP. Thank you for posting (although it makes me sad for the earth AND the peoples whose lives are forever altered.) When God said to “subdue” the earth, I don’t think this is what He had in mind.

The United States could lead the world IF it required proof that the raw and processed materials used in these products were mined and processed in an "environmentally neutral" way, and that mines no longer worked are returned to their original state. It can be easily modeled on the recently passed Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) signed into law by President Biden on December 23, 2021. Make the greenies put up with their own rules.

The reason these metals aren't mined and processed in the U.S. is because of our "Environmentalistas" who prevent it. It isn't an inherently "clean" process, so why would leftists push a technology that they can't 100% guarantee isn't using slave labor OR damaging the planet? So, I have a plan, it's called "Shame a Tesla" and it involves bumper stickers being placed on cars charging up at those "free" charging stations. The stickers could say things like, "BATTERIES BY UYGHUR LTD.", "BUILT BY SLAVES - DRIVEN BY LIBERALS" and "POISONING THE PLANET ONE AMP AT A TIME", etc. Then let's see how that squares with the anti-SUV group who delights in cutting valve stems.

Look at the lithium cooling ponds (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2018-12-03/bolivia-s-almost-impossible-lithium-dream) where the Green New Deal is causing harm to the environment. Lame Duck Joe's obsession with EVs require lithium batteries of which the mining of lithium is a very dirty environmental disaster. A lot worse than coal or petroleum. LDJ is killing the Earth, No Joke.

#4 - YES! Model those "Poisoning the Planet One Amp at a Time" stickers on the "I did this!" Joe Biden issues...and post them on every charging station. Brilliant!!

Republicans need to stop saying an all above approach to energy. NO! Especially when all of the above does not include nuclear. If we're going to be forced to use rare earth minerals then lets mine our own in this country under our strict environmental and child labor laws.

A Canadian ketchup brand has launched an unusual twist on a popular summer treat: Ketchup-flavored popsicles. The "Frenchsicle," a unique offering from French's Ketchup, is available in select pop-up locations until Thursday, according to a news release from French's. The popsicle was created in collaboration with Happy Pops, a Canadian ice pops brand focused on natural, gluten-free ingredients. The savory tomato flavor of the popsicles comes from 100 percent Canadian tomatoes, says the news release. "I love creating innovative treats that appeal to Canada's diverse tastes," said Happy Pops founder Leila Keshavjee in the release.

Amazon is devising a way for users to speak to their family members through its Alexa voice assistant, even after they’ve died. (Snip) In a demonstration video, a child said, “Alexa, can Grandma finish reading me the Wizard of Oz?” Alexa confirmed the request with the default, robotic voice, then immediately switched to a softer, more humanlike tone, seemingly mimicking the child’s family member. The Alexa team developed a model that allows its voice assistant to produce a high-quality voice with “less than a minute of recorded audio,” Prasad said. The feature is currently in development, Prasad said.

Two years ago, with millions of people out of work and central bankers and politicians striving to lift the U.S. economy out of a pandemic-induced recession, inflation seemed like an afterthought. A year later, with unemployment falling and the inflation rate rising, many of those same policymakers insisted that the price hikes were “transitory” – a consequence of snarled supply chains, labor shortages and other issues that would right themselves sooner rather than later. Now, with the inflation rate higher than it’s been since the early 1980s, Biden administration officials acknowledge that they missed their call.

DAVOS, Switzerland — Hungry attendees at this year’s World Economic Forum may have found some of the food a little hard to stomach, with some eye-popping prices in some locations. Just a stone’s throw away from the main Davos Congress Center, the fancy Steigenberger Grandhotel Belvedere was charging punters 49 Swiss francs ($51) for a burrito on its “snacks” menu. It was accompanied by a small bowl of guacamole and salsa. For comparison, a burrito in Taco Bell can cost as little as $2. A portion of French fries was also on offer at the Belvedere for 21.50

Cleaner air in United States and Europe is brewing more Atlantic hurricanes, a new U.S. government study found. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration study links changes in regionalized air pollution across the globe to storm activity going both up and down. A 50% decrease in pollution particles and droplets in Europe and the U.S. is linked to a 33% increase in Atlantic storm formation in the past couple decades, while the opposite is happening in the Pacific with more pollution and fewer typhoons, according to the study published in Wednesday’s Science Advances.

Virtually all Americans believed, until the inauguration of Donald Trump as president on January 20, 2017, that when someone became president, he could begin to implement his agenda. Certainly Old Joe Biden’s handlers have done so with a vengeance since they took over; but when Trump became president, he immediately began to encounter resistance from entrenched members of the government bureaucracy who refused to do as he ordered. Some worked actively against Trump, while the establishment media assured us that these self-appointed “deep state” saboteurs were the courageous guardians of “our democracy.” At his South Carolina rally Saturday

A major breakthrough in nuclear fusion has been confirmed a year after it was achieved at a laboratory in California. Researchers at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's (LLNL's) National Ignition Facility (NIF) recorded the first case of ignition on August 8, 2021, the results of which have now been published in three peer-reviewed papers. (snip) If we could harness this reaction to generate electricity, it would be one of the most efficient and least polluting sources of energy possible. No fossil fuels would be required as the only fuel would be hydrogen, and the only by-product would be helium, which we use in industry and are actually in short supply of.

It is helpful to think of political developments as moves on the chessboard made to advance an objective. In chess, the objective is to win the game, chess being zero-sum. Politics is like that, too, though participants often claim it's not, that they're acting for the greater good, principles at the foundation of democracy, motherhood and apple pie and all that — which is true in some cases but never if Democrats are in the game. This brings me to Attorney General Garland's claim that the Mar-a-Lago home invasion wasn't a raid at all.

A federal judge unsealed the search warrant for Trump’s residence, as well as other related documents on Friday afternoon. The Justice Department revealed earlier on Friday that Trump’s lawyers would not object to the documents’ release. Meanwhile, a list of items removed from the property shows the FBI recovered eleven sets of classified documents during the search, including some top-secret documents that should only have been available in special government facilities.

One thing we must give Democrats credit for is their unity. Yes, certain members of the party such as Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) will occasionally diverge from the party line and oppose particularly radical pieces of legislation, but when it comes to big moments and key votes – on impeachment, for instance – Democrats circle the wagons. Contrarily, Republicans tend to fracture at the most inopportune moments, which is why it was refreshing to see virtual unanimity amongst the GOP after Monday’s outrageous raid on former President Donald Trump’s residence Mar-a-Lago. Almost all notable Republicans supported Trump after the ordeal; all except for one.
