The average 12-year-old student at a yeshiva has more wisdom than almost any student at Harvard or most other universities. (A yeshiva is an Orthodox Jewish school with an emphasis on religious studies. about half the school day is devoted to religious studies—taught from the original Hebrew sources.)

From my earliest memories, my mother read the Bible to me. I remember how people in the Old Testament suffered for their rash decisions and were punished either by consequences or by God.
I had a healthy respect for common sense as related to my Christian upbringing. I was shocked by the behaviors of many of my contemporaries (the Sixties, man. Sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll) and refrained from a lot of the stupidity to preserve my mind and body. Thank God, here I am. Healthy of mind and happy at seventy-five.

FTA: "College students do have more knowledge than almost any 12-year-old in religious school. But they have much less wisdom."
Equally true of many of the "conservative" Never Trumpers out there.

....meanwhile, our society is abuzz with gigantic ad images of completely nude Mrs. Affleck, introducing her overpriced oleo for rumps. I can't even imagine what goes through her head, other than totally shameless self-promotion. She is a mother who goes on and on about how precious her children are. How proud they must be of mommy exposing herself to all the eyes of their classmates and friends. How do we stop this insanity???

Half the people have less than average intelligence. And the rest oftentimes have difficulty applying theirs. The world at large has never exercised wisdom, as #1 notes in Nietzsche's quote. Our times are not unique in that sense. I doubt wisdom can be taught. Rather wisdom is the application of careful, critical thought to knowledge - and few are recognized as truly wise.
There are many "wise" who pass themselves by quoting scripture or great philosophers, applying that wisdom to their point, whether or not it truly applies. That's the wisdom of a parrot.

Prager is close, but not close enough. Humanity is not just 'not good'. Humanity is, at it's core, truly bad. We are not living in a state of neutrality. We are living in a state of lostness, having been separated from God.
In Jesus' time, the 'not bad' were the Pharisees. They were truly evil men who loved their power and position in the community more than God. In fact, they did not really have the first clue about the nature of God. That is why Jesus spent his time with the tax collectors, lepers, adulterers and other outcasts. These were the people who knew from their failures that they were BAD. It is only from accepting this as the starting point that anyone can be ushered into the experience of God's Grace.
"All of us, like sheep, have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD has caused the wrongdoing of us all To fall on Him."
Going astray, turning to his own way - all do wrong. There is none righteous... no, not one. There are, apart from forgiveness, mercy and grace, none who are good. Use a little logic. If there are none who are GOOD then that means all are BAD.
I am a responsible adult. I care for my children, wish my ex-wife well in all she does, treat my clients and professional associates with respect and kindness and pay my taxes. Without Christ I am lost in my selfishness. I cannot escape the prison of my own desires. And... I am just one of about 7 billion who, according to Isaiah (quoted above) are in the very same boat.
As for judging men by their contemporaries... hogwash. The standard of holiness is not my neighbor... it is God Almighty... the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Sorry, Dennis. You were close, but still not hitting the bullseye here.

I disagree that the college students have more knowledge that the 12-year-olds in religious schools. Knowledge is factual. College students today are fed a steady diet of opinions and lies.

There is an old saying. Students from Ivy League Universities are educated WAY BEYOND their intelligence. What runs out of their brain is Leftist Schifft, COUNT ON IT!

A nation without the wisdom to know only fools destroy their heritage, their traditions, and hate their founding fathers, judging the men and women of the past by the standards of today.
