MTA needs huge cash infusion to offset

The MTA needs a huge infusion of cash to close the massive budget gap created by a nearly 40% decline in ridership since the COVID-19 pandemic, state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli said Thursday. “The MTA’s large budget gaps are coming into greater focus as ridership remains well below pre-pandemic levels and federal relief runs out,” DiNapoli said in a statement accompanying a new nine-page analysis of the $18 billion-per-year agency’s budget. “Unless there is an additional influx of city, state or federal aid, the MTA is facing stark options for closing its budget gaps that will impact riders,” DiNapoli said.(Snip)“We’re an essential service that needs

Comments:

This has nothing to do with Covid and everything to do with Democrat Socialists' refusal to control crime. But crying Covid opens the public's purse. Last time I checked the moving target, NYC MTA had received about $14.5 billion in so-called Covid relief money, which works out to $44.18 borrowed on behalf of every man, woman, and child in the USA. NYC itself got $38 billion in the 3/2021 stimulus; $115.77 taken from every man, woman, and child in New America, going just to address gross fiscal mismanagement in New York City. Why do we have inflation? Secretary Janet says it has nothing to do with spending.

The infusion that MTA needs is an infusion of police.

Nobody wants to ride public transport any longer. The muggings were bad enough. Now the left has frightened their following so that they are afraid to get around other people. Actually, them pulling back when I pass them on the sidewalk is one of the positives.

Apparently huge numbers jump the turnstiles, and huge numbers don't want to get killed, so travel another way. Make the turnstiles secure and the ride safe....there would be plenty of money. If still not enough, raise fares.

Let's see, this is a NYC issue and entity, so suggest they raise the fares to ensure they have the revenues they need. Or, they need to curtail the service to meet the reduced demand levels. What's the old saying? There is no free lunch.

Lol, you just can't make this sh** up. Yea blame the COVID-19 pandemic, but don't blame the out of control crime, people being thrown off the platforms, stabbings, assaults, rapes, murders, the scum of the homeless and no police presence and a useless mayor. Yep, just another day in the neighborhood. Typical democratic logic. Complete freakin morons.

NYC took over the privately-owned and privately-run subway lines - - in the late 1940s and early 1950s - - in order to "preserve the 5¢ fare." Yes - - the socialists were going to help the common man - - by keeping the fare at 5¢ - - except - - but - - only - - the fare is now $2.75 - - 55 TIMES higher than a nickel - - and rising rapidly. So - - I guess they didn't really want to keep the fare low - - they just want to steal some power!

The Biden administration on Friday announced a new $270 million security assistance package for Ukraine, which includes High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems and 36,000 rounds of ammunition. John Kirby, the White House’s national security spokesperson, said the aid is the 16th drawdown of equipment under President Biden’s drawdown authority, which allows him to send allies weapons from the Pentagon’s stockpile. It is the second security assistance package Mr. Biden has approved this month. In early July, the administration announced a $400 million security aid package for Ukraine. Mr. Kirby said the U.S. will continue to aid Ukraine as it fights to fend off Russian invaders. “We will have more packages

Two children have tested positive for monkeypox in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed Friday. One is a toddler from California; the other is in an infant who is not a U.S. resident and was 'transiting through' Washington D.C. Neither had contact with each other. Health officials said both children were 'doing well', but warned children under the age of eight are at high risk of severe monkeypox. It is thought both children likely caught the virus from 'household contacts'. Dr Rochelle Walensky said the children both had contact with gay or bisexual men—the community where most cases are being detected in the current outbreak.

With both rent and homebuyer costs soaring to record highs, the eternal question of whether to rent or buy has never been tougher. According to a report from Realtor.com on Thursday, renting is now cheaper than buying a starter home in three-quarters of the top 50 US cities—a stark change from a few months ago, when buying typically cost less. Median rent hit a record high of $1,876 in June, up 14 percent from a year ago—but that still represented a monthly savings of $561 from the monthly cost of buying a first home, which jumped to $2,437, the report found. As recently as January, buying a starter home

America's baby formula shortage dominated headlines earlier this year when the Abbott plant, the country's largest manufacturer, suddenly shut down amid fears over contamination. There was round-the-clock coverage of the crisis and promises from the Biden administration that all red-tape would be slashed in order to feed babies and calm mothers' fears. But nearly six months later, the infant care shelves in drugstores around the US remain bare and this week, the shortage reached a new low with 28.5 percent of products now completely out of stock. Biden's solution has been to fly in foreign formula to try to plug the gap, but the 802,446 bottles
