Back in 2002, Ruy Teixeira and John Judis published a book boldly proclaiming The Emerging Democratic Majority. Demographics were destiny, said the authors. The coloring of America would transform politics in the Democrats’ favor for a long time.
In the 20 years since, no such majority has materialized. Is it stalled or stillborn? Is the Democrat Party, instead, becoming an incredibly shrinking party lorded over by privileged, progressive whites? We won’t pretend to read tealeaves or sift data with such glorious insight as Teixeira and Judis. But we can observe what’s happening now.

About 60% of those earning above $500K identify as Democrats. Precious few of these people are of color. They are doing what they believe will 1) signal their virtue, 2) perpetuate their elite status for them and their families, and 3) keep them safe from the criminal and deplorable hordes from their doorstep. And 2) and 3) don't work.

The problem for an elite political class is that there is not enough of them. They don't have the number of voters needed to have any political clout.
The dems have managed their slide to the elitist Left by lying to their base and using the typical voter inertia to keep voting for "their" party. But the elite Left have grown more radical and rebellious in the last decade and the lies have become more transparent. When the economy is the worst in half a century because Brandon has sacrificed it to the climate gods and mismanaged everything else, it MATTERS to the non elite. It hurts them deeply and it violates their ethical and moral beliefs. All the elitist Left priorities just don't matter that much to the non elite, even if they might have some sympathies toward some of the issues. You don't burn down the Country over abortion rights. You bring the fight to the states where it Constitutionally belongs. Climate issues are NOT an emergency. They are deeply unsettled science that may require deeper study and probably an admission that our current level of science and understanding is not up to the task of shaping any policy. We can see pollution. We can tackle that. We cannot "see" climate or climate change and political solutions are absurd and extreme, an invented crisis.
The worst problem for an elite dem party is, once the voters eyes are opened and slip out of the grasp of dems, they are not likely to come back to a party that has deceived them and whose interests do not reflect their own.

Rush, RIP/sure miss his wisdom, used to say elites such as Gates and Buffet were not affected so they promoted dim policies like higher taxes and social issues in order to protect themselves from criticism. When I worked in the aerospace industry we called it a s s hole armor.

FTA: "Latinos and working- and middle-class folk don’t give a hoot about the phony January 6 insurrection. Gun control isn’t a push-button issue, either. Abortion? Plenty of Latinos identify as Catholic or, increasingly, fundamentalist Christian. Abortion is a grave sin to them."
The problem Republicans face in many parts of the country, perhaps nationally, is that it is decaying with age. Those "real conservatives" are mainly Boomers, and control local parties with time and money, as local leaders and volunteers. And, in my experience, are not particularly willing to welcome newcomers who aren't like them.
My Texas county was once the most Red in America, electing Ron Paul and Tom DeLay to Congress and with a fully red slate of elected officials. That was then. Now, Democrats rule the roost. Today whites are in the minority, even #3 depending on how residents are classified - behind Asians and (maybe) Hispanics. The Asians are now beginning to realize their political might, and besides substantial local resources, there is money coming in by the truckload from India, in particular, to build and support Indian candidates regardless of party.
Local Republicans pull out the tried-and-true "conservative" recipe of Constitutionalism, Christian belief, and Texas patriotism...plus, the usual list of issues, such as abortion, gun rights, national defense, and personal freedom. None of these are particularly hot buttons to a recently naturalized Indian/Chinese engineer or businessman and his family. Those relative few who turn to Republicanism are drawn by the ideas of "free enterprise", not that "other stuff".
Hispanics are less drawn to Republican politics than repelled by the Democrat extremists. These voters are native Americans, a part of Texas since the King of Spain granted land long before Austin and his band of colonists arrived. And, in many places, they have never been part of the Republican party, much of which was conservative Democrat until the demise of LBJ's Texas Democrat party starting in the late '60s.
The real split in American politics is still urban versus rural/suburban interests. And the Republicans at the local level had better be able to accept changes in demographics and appeal to new residents on their issues. Otherwise, that red bleeds out quickly to blue.

Surveys state "educated whites" vote Democratic. It makes it sound like 'smart' people are Democrats. In actuality they should be saying 'white people who have been brainwashed by leftist colleges and universities' vote Democratic.

I'm a white woman who is over 70. I'm a Catholic and not a Joe Biden one. I'm quite conservative and traditional in my outlook. I suspect that to the democrats, I am a useless eater who "If they would...die they had better do it and decrease the surplus population"

Agree with #8, but would like to add, every teacher is "college educated", and teachers represent a huge percentage of the Democrat base. And, just because you're college educated does not mean they are smart, or able to think for themselves (many just follow their union direction which is very liberal).
There was a Bloomberg article from Dec 2015 which was on "Trump's coalition of the descending", which was interesting.

The Democrat Party is not progressive. Don't use that term again. The Democrats are a criminal organization following all the same methods used by the Nazi's, their mentor, and are led by communists and socialists.
