Navy investigators want to know why a fighter jet on Friday was blown off the deck of an aircraft carrier operating in the Mediterranean. According to the initial reports, the Navy F-18 fighter jet went into the water as a result of “unexpected heavy weather.” The aircraft was aboard the USS Harry S. Truman, normally based in Norfolk. The Truman was conducting a replenishment-at-sea, an operation in which supplies are transferred from one ship to another while underway, when the F-18 was blown overboard. A sailor received “minor injuries” during the unexpected heavy weather, officials said.(Snip)“There is an officer and division whose only job is
Good grief - they don't tether those things when parked?

It shouldn’t take a Navy investigator to figure out that someone didn’t do his/her job and properly tie the aircraft down….just as it’s been done tens of thousands of times before. It’s simply a matter of “Who?”

Didn't know they HAD any F-18 left on board carriers. Thought they had been replaced with F-18 Superhornets and F-35s.

Should have spent a little less on diversity training and bought a few ratchet straps instead.

The plane captains are responsible for CHAINING those aircraft to the deck. Somebody seriously screwed up.
This could cost the captain his job.

Probably at a diversity training when the tie downs were due! Or tie downs are white male privilege and the Navy is WOKE! “Rum Sodomy and The Lash!”

Some of the other planes say this F-18 self-identified as a seagull.

Plane wasn’t the only thing “blown unexpectedly” that day!

20:1 that jet isn’t overboard, but safely dismantled in a hangar in Shanghai.

Welcome to the Leftist Prog Navy where Rainbow Flags matter more than a $75M fighter aircraft.

Before the woke Navy I was on a carrier in heavy weather when I had to tie myself to a line running the length of the flight deck to deflate struts and tires to keep the aircraft on the flight deck from breaking loose and going overboard. Waves breaking over the flight deck made it a dangerous job but we weren't woke and neither were the officers sending us out to do the job. I can't imagine this happening but then I'm not in the woke Navy of today where apparently snowflakes abound.

The F-18 is a jet fighter, not a "fighter jet"!

All activities are filmed on a carrier such as this. There should be plenty of evidence of a plane being blown off the deck before the woke captain is relieved of command.

Each fighter jet, helo, or plane has a team that is responsible for the "chocking and chaining" of their aircraft when in non operation status. I was mostly stationed on "small boys" but I've been involved with carrier replenishments at sea and they can be tricky and everything especially aircraft must be secured to the deck. Someone's going to be in deep doo doo for a jet that costs millions of dollars going into the drink. The woke Naval chain of command should spend more time on adverse weather carrier flight deck procedures and less time on critical race theory and diversity training.

Pursuant to #16, not to mention the redundancy: "F-18 fighter jet" - the "F" already tells us that it's a fighter. However, the Times completely blew this one, as the multi-mission Hornet/Superhornet is designated "F/A-18" to include it's role as an attack aircraft. Regardless, what took place on the flight deck is inexcusable.

Unexpected weather? BS. It's an aircraft carrier. They probably have some of the latest weather detecting equipment on board plus a whole bus load a weather geeks. Every photo I've ever seen of a carrier shows aircraft on deck are tied down. Somebody didn't do their job.

Not a surprise! Naval officers these days are afraid to blow their noses without permission. So an airplane was not properly chained down and 40 million dollars went into the sea. Its how woke you are, that is what counts especially to matters of the crotch, you know...what is your sex and can men use the womens heads, toilet rooms for you landlubbers.

Diring RAS (replensihment at sea) it is very common to respot aricraft. GSE tractors are used to move and respot these aircraft. If the boat has been deployed for awhile the non skid surfacing get worn in addition to hydraulic fluid being a common slip hazard. Maybe a rogue wave? Too sharp of a break away maneuver or some otjer causal factor. Be thankful that a young sailor was not seriously hirt or worse. Those who dont onowmtalk. Those in the know are silent until the facts are gathered.
