In this excerpt from the just-published “Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words” by Michael Pack and Mark Paoletta, the Supreme Court justice reflects on changes in his hometown, Savannah, Ga. The book is based on more than 30 hours of interviews Pack conducted with Thomas and his wife Ginni for the film of the same name; 95% of the book’s material is new, including this excerpt.
Michael Pack: You have talked a little today about how life in the black community has not been improved by many well-intentioned social programs. Do you think, in some sense, it is worse than when you grew up?

Clarence is 100% correct. All the blacks got suckered into the demonrat party believing it and most of them still remain for all the freebies. Finally, some of them are waking up to the constant policies demonrats have foisted on them.

Liberal policies have killed all communities. The left has ruined everything, and every possible enjoyment in life. I want a divorce. I cannot live with them.

The Democrat architects of the Great Society knew exactly what they were doing. The destruction of the black neighborhoods and ultimately the black family was their true goal. They used the black community to manufacture a communist "proletariat" beachhead in America.
The successful template was replicated in the illegal immigrant and other marginal communities in every urban center across the nation. Violent youth gangs kill other violent youths. Drug dealers kill drug users. Thieves steal from other thieves, and the weak prey upon the weaker. The original high-rise projects have morphed into two-story garden projects dispersed into suburban and rural communities. Embarrassing food stamp coupons have been replaced with ubiquitous EBT cards. Evil walks the halls of power.
Our Republic is for a moral people. In order to restore our Republic, we must first restore our people's morality. Our current crisis is a great attention getter; the "ah-ha" moment for which we have been waiting. At last our neighbors and family will be awakening to the harsh realities of "progressive" policies based on solely on power politics. We must use this opportunity to invite them to join us at church or synagogue, or to pray together. We must begin with God.
Ultra MAGA - I've already ordered the Justice's book.

If we still lived in a rational world this man would be celebrated from the roof tops. Unfortunately we don’t and the left demonizes him as a traitor to his race. I really miss living in old America. You should have been there.

Justice Clarence Thomas is a great man. I'm not just saying that because I'm a Black Conservative member of the MAGA Gang. I'm saying it because it's true. This man grew up in the Jim Crow South dirt poor living in a one room shack with a dirt floor. I won't spoil it for you but you need to get his memoir "My Grandfather's Son. He rose up from that to get on the highest court in our land being one of the greatest Justices on there. He knows what he's talking about when it comes to how leftist democrat policies have destroyed our communities. You want proof just look at any major city in this country that's primarily run by democrats like Chicongo ran by Splinter from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Justice Thomas should be celebrated by my fellow Blacks but he isn't. instead they celebrate a woman that couldn't even tell us what a woman is and call him names like Uncle Tom, Step n Fetch and Republican boot licker who will roll back abortion rights forever and ever. That in itself is not only a disservice not just to Black Americans but all of them.

#3, Great post! We have abandoned God in this country and an awful and evil presence has filled that vacuum.

I have a little different take on this. No matter what white people do to try to improve the blacks condition, it ends in failure. Yet the blame for the failure is on whites backs, no matter what the politics involved. I’ve seen those ghastly hovels with a path to an outhouse through the accumulated garbage and etc, etc. So they were torn down and nice apartment buildings with modern amenities were built, the community cohesion was lost and the people fell into despair and addiction. Blah, blah, blah.
People all over the world live in big apartment complexes, it behooves the dwellers to come up with ways to make it work. That’s all I’m saying, stop accepting the blame for every bad thing that happens in the black community. That community is the biggest bunch of whiners and complainers and demanders I’ve ever seen and nothing ever suits them, so stop trying to make them happy and let them swim or sink into extinction. On their own.

LBJ and his fellow Demoracists followed the Roman emperor model of supplying the underclass 'bread and circuses' Just give 'em welfare, food stamps and projects, then entertain them with the NBA, NFL and Oprah, and we'll have them voting Demorat for 200 years! Oh, and make sure their schools fail utterly to educate them. Can't have that.

I also was uplifted by Ben Carson's background. Of course, I have some bias because of Ben Carson's medical field. Neurosurgery. There is another community that was looked down upon and that is brain disorders. I am talking about physiological brain disorders and one of them is seizures. Back in the 50's and 60's, people with seizures were usually put in mental hospitals. The stigma of seizures was very hard to overcome. I ought to know - my mom had seizures but eventually died from brain cancer. My mom never felt like she was owed something - as a matter of fact, she had to overcome people's rotten attitudes. In her fourteen months of brain cancer, I did not see anger or even her crying. In a tender moment when I was crying, she was trying to comfort me in telling me it was her time to go.
I have to tell you when I see all of the anger, faithlessness and mean-spirited people, I am truly saddened. The person that saddens me the most is Joe Biden. Then, Barack Obama. They truly represent anger, faithlessness, and mean-spirited. . .

There is something sick about living in a ghetto, enduring shots fired at night along with fear and violence and still not recognizing that they are voting for it on the local level. Understanding true empowerment rather than being controlled by a people that are using you is the real way out.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out what the democrats have done to the black communities...just look around at the big northern cities and you can see what has happened...they took the black fathers out of the homes...left children to grow up feeling despised and alone...and then they move abortion centers into the community to stop the birth rate....they needed a compliant electorate to keep them in office...well times are a changing and the community is waking up...

I despised "Landslide Lyndon," but I admit he wasn't stupid. He knew exactly what he was doing, as the quote above demonstrates.

I was 14 when "Urban Renewal" destroyed the downtown area of my hometown. Most of the low income housing was razed and the residents were relocated to a housing complex north of town. Within a decade the housing complex was as bad or worse than the inner city had been. During the "renewal" shopping malls were built on the outskirts of the city and the businesses moved there depriving those who lived near downtown of shopping opportunities nearby (Downtiwn has never fully recovered and is mostly drinking establishments for the local Baptist University). Then they integrated the schools destroying the traditional black schools and bussing the students accross town to the newer white schools. Black kids were stuck standing around awaiting transportation to and fro. Time that could have been otherwise spent on productive or learning activities.
Malcolm X commented in 1963 that the biggest enemy of this country and of blacks "is the white liberal". Most guilt ridden bleeding hearts rarely have to live with the results of their good intentions. Oh, and things would always have worked out better but " we just didn't spend enough money"!

The problem with the black community is The Community that "reveres" MLK and rejects his goals of social integration with all races in the USA. Where is once embraced social and business progress, today it disdains such.
James Brown once had hits with such songs as "I Don't Want Nobody (to Give me Nothin')" and "Don't be a Dropout" (named the most constructive tune of 1966). That's history...find anything similar in black entertainment today.

Thanks, TQ, for the very thoughtful analysis and at your very early hour. Yes, the larger issue is how does America restore morality within its own people despite the evil influences coming from within and from abroad.
A very good question since America has replaced belief in God with obeyance to the state. How America reverses this terrible transformation is not clear. I ask myself several things - Do we fight to reverse it? Do we vote out those who we think brought us this totalitarian state and hope like hell this is enough? Do we pray to God and hope He delivers us from this evil asap? Who in this great nation will be the pied piper to pull America out of its societal nosedive?
By the way, I, too, have ordered a copy of Justice Thomas's book.

My dad used to say, "...accountability starts in the mirror." Liberal policies have taken away the notion that a person has responsibilities and accountability first to themselves, their families and their community. It's much easier to place blame or be a victim than to be accountable and be a good example. Obviously not just a stereotype for the black communities because as Justice Thomas indicated, from a distance you can't distinguish between those who need help versus those who won't help themselves. The feel good policies of liberal "help" without regard to conditions erodes self-respect and incentivizes sloth and fraud. Do-gooders running solely on emotional content beat their chests while the communities vote for more goodies and self-destruct. You can't cry defund police on one hand and then cry about food deserts on the other because retailers don't exist to have goods stolen from them. The total lack of shame or self-awareness is a good 3-4 generations deep at this point.

It's white liberals in the gated communities.
