American families are shelling out what amounts to $5,000 per year to put gas in their cars—a painful increase from $2,800 just a year ago, according to a new report. The new study by Yardeni Research shows the ever-increasing financial burden borne by US households in recent months as the price of fuel has reached record levels.
In March, the annual rate of gasoline spending by US households was at $3,800, according to the study. “No wonder that the Consumer Sentiment Index is so depressed. The wonder is that retail sales have been so surprisingly strong during April and May,” Yardeni said in a note.

President Biden on Wednesday committed to working with Finland and Sweden to “remain vigilant against any threats to our shared security” and “deter and confront aggression” while the two Nordic countries’ applications to join the NATO military alliance are under review. Analysts say the two countries, which have long resisted formal ties to NATO, are in a particularly vulnerable position as their applications for alliance membership are in the pipeline. Russian President Vladimir Putin has bitterly criticized past expansions by NATO into eastern Europe and has talked of unspecified retaliation against Helsinki and Stockholm for their decision to join the 30-nation transatlantic alliance. Las Vegas—A video from a recent CCSD board meeting is now going viral on social media and making national headlines. Kandra Evans addressed the school board saying her 15-year-old daughter was given a pornographic assignment. Evans says her daughter was required to memorize the pornographic content and then recite it in front of her entire class. CCSD board members then stopped the public comment over the explicit language. “This is a public meeting. I ask for decorum,” said a school board member. “If you don’t want me to read it to you, what was it like for my 15-year-old daughter to have to memorize pornographic material

The Department of Homeland Security is 'pausing' its controversial disinformation board just three weeks after it was unveiled following withering attacks from Republicans and conservative TV pundits. It was intended to combat misinformation but critics quickly homed in on the role of its chief, Nina Jankowicz, and her history fighting disinformation and extremism.
In particular, they questioned her expertise after it emerged she had dismissed the 2020 discovery of Hunter Biden's laptop as being a 'Trump campaign product.'(Snip)'Nina Jankowicz has been subjected to unjustified and vile personal attacks and physical threats,' a DHS spokesperson told The Post in a statement. A 911 dispatcher accused of hanging up on a Buffalo supermarket employee calling about the mass shooter mercilessly gunning down shoppers has been suspended, officials said. Latisha, an assistant manager at Tops Friendly Market, said she called 911 to report the gunshots allegedly fired by self-professed white supremacist Payton Gendron, 18, in the crowded supermarket on Saturday, news station WGRZ reported. “I tried to call 911, and I was whispering because I could hear him close by,” Latisha told WGRZ. “And when I whispered on the phone to 911, the dispatcher started yelling at me, saying ‘Why are you whispering? You don’t have to whisper.’”

Two children have been hospitalized in Tennessee after their parents could not find a specific type of formula amid a nationwide shortage. Both children have intestinal disorders that make it difficult for them to absorb nutrients. They were treated at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis after their bodies couldn’t tolerate an alternate type of formula, according to Fox13 Memphis.
One of the children was released Tuesday. Dr. Mark Corkins, a pediatric gastroenterologist who treated the children, told Fox13 he gave them IV fluids and nutrients while they search for the formula, though it is not a long-term solution and he expects more kids will land in hospitals.

The company at the center of a baby formula crisis could face criminal charges, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday, as Democrats considered new government controls over the baby formula industry. “I think there might be a need for indictment,” said Mrs. Pelosi, who has realigned the House agenda to address a baby formula shortage. Democrats are also considering legislation that would give the federal government more control over the supply and distribution of formula, particularly when shortages arise. The plan would require formula companies to report inventory to the Food and Drug Administration, which could then move supplies from one state to another to fill empty shelves.
