In the days after the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol building, the two top Republicans in Congress, Rep. Kevin McCarthy and Sen. Mitch McConnell, told associates they believed President Donald Trump was responsible for inciting the deadly riot and vowed to drive him from politics.McCarthy went so far as to say he would push Trump to resign immediately: “I’ve had it with this guy,” he told a group of Republican leaders, according to an audio recording of the conversation obtained by The New York Times. But within weeks both men backed off an all-out fight with Trump because they feared retribution from him and his political movement.

President Joe Biden suggested Democrats were having political trouble because Americans were unaware of the party's accomplishments. 'We've done one hell of a job,' the president said Thursday afternoon at a high-dollar fundraiser at the Portland Yacht Club, co-hosted by The New Republic's owner and editor Win McCormack and his political consultant wife, Carol Butler. Biden said that 'because things have moved so rapidly, so profoundly' that 'they don't know a lot about what we've already done.' He cited some statistics like the creation of 7.9 million jobs, including 430,000 manufacturing jobs,

Los Angeles County is issuing a new health officer order that continues to require masks at airports, on all public transit and in other indoor transportation hubs.
The new order comes after a federal judge on Monday overturned a federal mandate that required masks on trains, planes, buses and at travel hubs. Then on Wednesday, the Department of Justice filed a notice of appeal seeking to reverse the decision at the request of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Also Wednesday, the California Department of Public Health updated its state guidance to recommend — but no longer require — masks on public transit.

Florida Democrats reportedly erupted Thursday on the House floor as they were powerless to stop the Republican-led body from passing a new congressional map that is expected to yield favorable results for the GOP. There are currently 16 Republicans and 11 Democrats representing Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives and the new map, which also adds an additional district, increases Republicans’ dominance in the state to what will likely amount to a 20-8 margin over the Democrats. The new map effectively targets seats held by Rep. Al Lawson (D-FL), Rep. Charlie Crist (D-FL), Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-FL), and potentially Rep. Val Demings (D-FL).

'It was a trial run, and they're going to come back if they win the House,' she continued. 'The only reason it wasn't worse is because Democrats had the House, and they didn't have the votes.'

The Florida legislature on Thursday passed the DeSantis-proposed redistricting map to the governor to sign without changes.
The map will create 20 red-leaning and eight blue-leaning congressional districts. The district lines will serve the state for the next ten years, shaping national politics. The map single-handedly wiped out the Democrats’ national gerrymandering advantage by proposing a map that eliminates constitutional infirmities.
In a letter to the lawmakers, Governor Ron DeSantis’s general counsel, Ryan Newman, said the proposed map “is the product of collaboration and consultation with the House and Senate leadership and draws from the maps that were recently passed by the Legislature.”

A dozen Democrats have urged for a comprehensive plan to address the expected influx of migrants at the southern border before the Biden administration ends Title 42 expulsions.
The White House said on April 20 it’s “planning and preparing for the end” of the Trump-era public health order, which was implemented amid the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 and has since been rejecting asylum-seekers at U.S. borders.
The ongoing migrant expulsions policy is set to expire on May 23 under the Biden administration, as press secretary Jennifer Psaki said current funding levels will not meet the needs of law enforcement agencies once Title 42 is lifted.

Much has been made about the dire prospects for the Democratic Party in November. Mid-term elections almost always see an electoral erosion for the party in power, and when that party’s president is struggling with opinion polls, the consequences can be severe. But what about the next presidential election cycle? What about 2024? Does the future look any brighter for Democrats? It may be a long way off but consider this fact:

Today, the Florida House of Representatives passed the bill and sent it to Governor Ron DeSantis for signature. The bill passed by the legislature on Thursday would eliminate the Reedy Creek Improvement District, as the Disney government is known, as well as a handful of other similar districts by June 2023. Harry Reid spent decades perfecting his brand of machine politics that powered Democratic control across Nevada.
Now, four months after the death of Reid, the venerated political titan who represented Nevada in Congress for 34 years, Democrats here find themselves relying on his legacy once again.
In an already volatile environment nationally for their party, in which they’re contending with issues like rising inflation, soaring gas prices and dismal White House approval, they’re tasked with locking down Catherine Cortez Masto’s Senate seat, and the outcome could dictate control of the Senate. They’re also defending Steve Sisolak’s governorship, which had taken Democrats 20 years to claim from Republicans.

Sandberg and Kotick were dating at the time that she reportedly contacted the digital edition of the Mail in 2016 and 2019 about shelving a story about a temporary restraining order a former girlfriend of Kotick's obtained against him in 2014. The Journal cited unnamed sources involved in the article and the campaign to stop it.

A federal appeals court ruled on Tuesday local governments in California can sue oil companies in state courts for allegedly causing climate change and hiding it from the public. The suit, which dates back to 2017, is seeking damages for more than 30 companies, which the anti-oil San Francisco Chronicle said fossil fuels producers “profit from products contributing to rises in temperatures and sea levels.”And that means climate change is forcing cities and counties in the state to spend more money on infrastructure, including sea walls. The plaintiffs in the case are San Mateo, Marin and Santa Cruz counties and the cities of Richmond, Santa Cruz and Imperial Beach

When a man becomes president, he suddenly gains a new appendage: The Secret Service. Wherever he goes and whatever he does, members of the Secret Service are there, keeping an eye on him. And, like all bureaucracies, you can be sure that the agents are required to document everything on their watch. That’s why it’s truly peculiar that, in response to a FOIA request from the New York Post to see documents identifying Joe Biden’s visitors during his regular stays in Delaware in 2021, the Secret Service is claiming that it has no records with that information.

Alec Baldwin is now claiming to be “exonerated” of any wrongdoing in his fatal shooting of a set member that occurred in late 2021. The D-list actor, a staunch anti-Trump figure liberal firebrand, has previously claimed he did not actually pull the trigger and that he holds no responsibility for the tragic incident.

Now, a new report from the New Mexico Occupational Health and Safety Bureau has determined that gross negligence occurred on the set, fining the film company the maximum penalty of $136,793.
Yet, Baldwin says the report exonerates him, relieving him of any liability for the shooting.

A suspect was charged early Thursday with the brutal slaying of Queens mom Orsolya Gaal — with multiple sources telling The Post he was her handyman ex-lover.
David Bonola, 44, was taken into custody and charged with murder, criminal tampering and criminal possession of a weapon over the brutal weekend stabbing, the NYPD confirmed early Thursday.
Multiple sources told The Post that Bonola was the handyman thought to have also been Gaal’s lover — and that he gave a full confession after his arrest.

Do senile dogs learn new tricks? Or is Joe Biden hearing from too many angry Democrats?
Sure enough, Joe Biden seems to recognize that he's strangling on his own border policies, and not for the first time. This time, though, he's looking for a way out.
According to a report in Axios, as reported by the Washington Examiner's Byron York:
There is word that President Joe Biden is looking for a way out of his decision to end Title 42, the Trump-era regulation that allows U.S. authorities to turn back illegal crossers at the U.S.-Mexico border on the grounds of protecting the country from COVID. Earlier this month,

A leaked memo from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) reveals the socialist is interested in another presidential bid.
After losing in two Democrat primaries, one in 2016 to Hillary Clinton and another in 2020 to Joe Biden, Sanders “has not ruled out another run for president,” a leaked memo to the Washington Post said. The reported author of the missive is Faiz Shakir, Sanders’ advisor and former 2020 campaign manager.

ews broke Wednesday the Florida Senate had passed a bill to dismantle Walt Disney World’s half-century-old “independent special district” status, an arrangement whereby Disney has been allowed, since 1968, essentially to govern itself. Gov. Ron DeSantis says Disney’s self-governing status should be subject to review, to ensure that it is still “appropriately serving the public interest.”
Good. Disney is reaping its just reward for inserting itself into the political debate about Florida’s parental rights bill, which Disney lost in spectacular fashion.

When I was a teenager, the cool kids smoked cigarettes. Today they cut off their weiners.
A mom writing for Substack’s “Parents with Inconvenient Truths about Trans” is claiming that her kid went full trans-tard after going to a new, woke, trans-happy school.
She starts her article with this: “My teenage daughter has decided that she is “trans”. So have all her friends. Not some of them. Not most of them. Every. Single. One.”
The anonymous mother also states that her daughter showed no signs of gender dysphoria and had never heard the word “transgender” before enrolling at her new school. That’s where she met a group of nerdy, artsy kids.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling has been excluded from The Big Jubilee Read of 70 books, pioneered in part by the BBC, amid ongoing leftist attacks on her views on transgender ideology.
The initiative, co-founded by BBC Arts along with The Reading Agency, is intended to showcase Commonwealth books spanning the seven decades of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign to coincide with her Platinum Jubilee, but the Harry Potter series’ total exclusion from the supposedly “reader-driven list” has raised eyebrows.

WASILLA, Alaska— Sarah Palin isn’t used to sharing the spotlight. In the nearly 14 years since she burst onto the national political scene, the former Alaska governor has appeared on reality television programs, written books, spent time as a Fox News contributor, formed a political action committee in her name and been a rumored White House contender. She more recently revived her status as a conservative sensation with an ultimately unsuccessful lawsuit against The New York Times. Now, the first Republican female vice presidential nominee is vying for what could be considered a less glamorous role: a member of the U.S. House.

President Joe Biden has reportedly told former President Barack Obama that he intends to run for re-election in 2024. He wanted to be president for decades, so his desire to keep the Oval Office is unsurprising. But the case for a second term is quite weak — and voters know it even if Democrats in dreamland don’t.Inflation is at its worst in 40 years, erasing wage growth. Crime is surging in many major cities. Employers are struggling with labor shortages. Illegal immigration could top 2 million encounters this year, amid a border crisis that has been spiraling out of control since virtually the moment Biden took office.

Another suspected migrant flight landed in White Plains late Tuesday night, the fifth such flight in the past six days. The iAero airlines flight WQ491 from El Paso, Texas, via Jacksonville, Fla., landed at 10:33 p.m.
The same iAero plane shuttled back and forth between El Paso and New York over Easter weekend. On Saturday, it landed at 11:33 p.m. On Monday it landed at 10:17 p.m.If it were not for The Post, the public would not be aware of any of the Biden administration’s charter flights, which are fanning out every night, all over the country, delivering illegal migrants from the southern border to oblivious communities.

A Washington Nationals pregame display involving U.S. Army parachutists briefly caused an evacuation at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday. U.S. Capitol Police around 6:30 p.m. sent an alarming notice to Capitol Hill staff that it was "tracking an aircraft that poses a probable threat to the Capitol Complex."
Less than 20 minutes later, police sent an update: "The aircraft no longer poses a threat to the Capitol," and USCP said that buildings in the complex were being prepared for re-entry. Its message did not contain further information about the aircraft police had initially deemed a "probable threat."

Appearing Tuesday on MSNBC’s The Beat With Ari, veteran Democrat strategist James Carville lamented how no one “fears” the Democrat Party. A transcript is as follows:
ARI MELBER: The party has long talked about being a big tent and the Internet has given more people a chance to weigh in, which can be great. It also feels like you’re in one of these local town meetings and everyone has two opinions about three projects. You have people who say they’ll vote for Biden again and wouldn’t vote for Trump, and they spend a lot of time talking about strategy, the Senate, Manchin. Do you think that’s a drag?
JAMES CARVILLE: It’s totally a drag. It’s also
