CHARLESTON, W.Va.— For the first time in half a year, families on Friday are going without a monthly deposit from the child tax credit — a program that was intended to be part of President Joe Biden’s legacy but has emerged instead as a flash point over who is worthy of government support. Retiree Andy Roberts, from St. Albans, West Virginia, relied on the checks to help raise his two young grandchildren, whom he and his wife adopted because the birth parents are recovering from drug addiction. The Robertses are now out $550 a month. That money helped pay for Girl Scouts, ballet and acting lessons and kids’ shoes,

Typical lib media..... Find all the bleeding heart examples you can find to imply that it's the govt's duty to take care of everyone... And it's shirking on its responsibility.

Clearly being used for the necessities of life, right?
No one ever sent me anything when I ended up raising my children on my own.

What an expression….who is worthy of government support. Think about that. Those of us who worked our entire lives and paid our way are expected to be the providers of that “government support”. No wonder we’re going bankrupt.

My husband's paycheck used to pay for our children's ballet, scouts, clothes, etc. Who knew one could depend on the community aka fellow taxpayers for such support?

Gee...they got the same amount last year, will get the same amount next year...just NOT a check sent every month to every thom, dyke and hairy that "claims" to have kids in the house...they will get it when they file their taxes.
Since they can "Early File", not much of a delay, though of course they will have to reduce that claim by whatever sums they received...since...they RECEIVED those funds already.
Perhaps some mention should be made of the fact that the Child Tax Credit amount was INCREASED under Trump, Biden just tried to turn it into a monthly transfer payment, a "Check from President Biden"(vote for me! I'll make everything FREE!)

These families aren't out anything. Great job by the AP to trash Joe Manchin by printing sob stories from his home state.

Article is a pathetic bashfest of Sen. Manchin. It's important to note that this 'credit' is available to households up to $150,000 per year. The article lies about Manchin's chief opposition to the extension as well - his issue is that the credit is being offered to incomes far too high.
I note that the AP hit piece doesn't tell us how much the subject makes a month in order to qualify for $550. I suspect that given the full amount available, these people are in no way poverty stricken. If you are making money like this, you don't need my tax dollars. This vote buying scam must die.

Continued financial aid ought not to be broad and automatic for families. Treat each situation as unique and then decide who rfeally does need some assistance. Handing out monthly checks is wasteful and bad for the recovery of the nation. Lots of job openings all over the country.

$550 per MONTH for girl scouts, ballet, acting lessons and shoes. Who knew the exorbitant cost of those activities! Kids grow fast, but you shouldn't have to buy shoes every month! Wonder if they considered putting some of that bounty into a Roth IRA?

FTA ... thousands of coal mining jobs were lost over the past decade as companies and utilities explore using other energy sources such as natural gas, solar and wind.
The 0bama-Biden regime forced those jobs to be lost. If that hadn't happened, the Robertses could by now be paying for ponies and riding lessons for their grandchildren.

Whaaa, Whaaa, Whaaa! If you have your grandkids because their parents are recovering drug addicts, chances are you are getting state aide to help take care of them. Food Stamps and Medicaid for them also. In many instances, you might also be collecting Social Security Disability payments off the parents for the kids benefits for them too. This was a temporary early monthly payout of what people got on their tax returns each year. Many people who got the monthly credit will be in for a surprise when they do not get the full tax credit on their 2021 tax refund because of this prepayment.

While I have enormous respect for grandparents who raise their grandchildren, I did pause when I saw the list of what they might have to give up because they’re not getting my tax dollars any more. My parents could not afford piano lessons and dance lessons, Campfire Girls, Little League, or anything extra. Acting lessons? Sheesh! We went to the library. We played in the creek. We fought over three tv channels. I think I turned out pretty well.

The Child Tax Credit is just that, a credit that is usually applied at tax time, and offers you a reduction on the taxable income.
What they did recently was offer payments using that credit amount, as an advance.
I'm sure a whole lot of lower and middle income folks will be surprised to learn they already received their tax credit and significantly reduced refunds. Many likely only had a refund based on the Earned Income tax credit and their Child Tax Credit.

Good. Now maybe the price of used cars will start to come down. Several car dealers told me these checks were fueling a lot of the car buying that was raising prices.

Ok, if its such a great program, lets break it out from the Big Bucks Boondoggle bill and vote on it seperately. No? Why not? Mancin stopped the $5T BBB bill. The AP wants to tag him with this small part of the overall bill because this small piece is popular in his state. He offered to pass it on its own. Biden said no. Pretty dishonest reporting here. Not surprising.

One could hardly call any of the aforementioned necessities for life.
AP, are you finding less and less on your plate to quibble over? Take a
dive in the cesspool you helped create. Take a hike and be thankful you've
a pair of shoes to wear. BTW, are they the $100 sneakers the 'children' are
now being denied?
