Akron, Ohio—Akron police have investigated the theft of all kinds of valuables over the years, but for the first time in anyone’s memory, detectives are trying to find out who stole a bridge. At one time, the pedestrian bridge was along the Little Cuyahoga River in Middlebury Run Park, which sits in the shadow of Goodyear World Headquarters on Akron’s East End. However, the complete 58-foot long span was removed from the park as part of a wetlands restoration project and moved to a field along Seiberling Street.(Snip)Investigators say they are not sure what the crooks plan to do with the bridge.

Sniffles, headaches, and tiredness appear to be the hallmarks of Omicron, according to a major study that suggests the mutant virus is more akin to a cold than Covid. An analysis of cases in London, where Omicron is growing most rapidly, reported the most common signs of the virus between December 3 and 10 were a runny nose, headache, fatigue, sneezing, and a sore throat.(Snip)He added that Omicron appears to be chipping away at the UK's vaccine protection from infection, but that jabs were still critical to protecting people. 'We are also seeing two to three times as many mild infections in people with boosters in Omicron areas

Approximately 168,000 of the 800,000 U.S. COVID-19 deaths could have been prevented by the Covid vaccines, a new analysis finds. The Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) analyzed Covid death data in the U.S., and found that tens-of-thousands of deaths over the past six months could have been prevented if people had gotten vaccinated.
They used the death rate among fully vaccinated people—who do occasionally die from the virus despite the overall rarity—and calculated how many unvaccinated people would have lived if they had received the jab. September and October were especially brutal, with a combined 92,800 deaths deemed preventable.

A University of Minnesota scholar has raised eyebrows with her study into how policing affects 'birthing people' in different parts of Minneapolis. Rachel Hardeman, director of the Center for Antiracism Research for Health Equity at the university, published her findings on December 8 in the medical journal JAMA.(Snip)White mothers living in 'high police contact neighborhoods' experienced a 90 per cent higher chance of preterm birth compared to residents in low-contact areas. U.S.-born black mothers in the same areas experienced a 100 per cent higher chance of preterm birth, yet foreign-born black mothers showed only a 10 per cent higher chance for preterm birth.

The leading candidate to be the city’s next top cop was passed over after balking at the idea of not answering directly to incoming Mayor Eric Adams, The Post has learned. Former Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best was the odds-on favorite to replace outgoing NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea until she voiced concerns that Adams might create a new job for a deputy mayor to oversee the department, law enforcement sources said Wednesday. Instead of picking Best, Adams chose Nassau County Chief of Detective Keechant Sewell, whose selection was exclusively revealed Tuesday by The Post.(Snip)Sources have said that Adams is considering appointing controversial ex-cop Philip Banks

A new study has found that Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine produced virtually no antibody response to the Omicron variant.
South African virologist Penny Moore found that a key measure of antibody levels fell fell from 303 against the original strain to undetectable levels against Omicron in those with the J&J shot, according to Bloomberg. Among those who received the Pfizer shot, the antibody measure, called geometric mean titers, fell from 1,419 against the original coronavirus strain to 80 against Omicron.(Snip)'The new Omicron variant highlights the importance of continued surveillance, testing and vaccination to prevent hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19,' J&J executive Mathai Mammen said.

Princeton University has joined Cornell in moving its final exams online after reporting a surge of dozens of COVID cases—up from zero on Sunday—that it says are likely driven by the highly-contagious Omicron variant. In just two days, the campus reported a combined 39 new cases of COVID among students. University data indicated that 20 students tested positive for the virus on Tuesday, and 19 others had tested positive on Monday.(Snip)Princeton—which boasts a 99 percent vaccination rate for undergrad students—is also mandating booster shots as it attempts to curb the spread of the seemingly unstoppable variant.

A recent survey finds that 67% of vaccinated Americans believe the unvaccinated should pay a “COVID tax” to cover businesses’ pandemic safety expenses, but most business owners and the unvaccinated themselves don’t believe in such fees. Skynova, an invoicing software for small businesses, conducted the digital survey of 1,075 Americans. The firm’s project manager, Joe Mercurio, said the survey reflects a “consensus among people … that unvaccinated people should have to pay precautionary COVID-19 fees when visiting a business” to help cover the costs of personal protective equipment and other materials.(Snip)Higher prices for unvaccinated consumers would amount to “a new tax” to help business owners cover the $132

Washington—President Biden smirked and walked away Wednesday when The Post asked why he hasn’t done more to push China to be transparent on the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic. Biden was stone-faced when asked about his own responsibility for the US crossing 800,000 pandemic deaths—before breaking into a broad grin when asked about China. “On 800,000 coronavirus deaths, do you have a statement on your responsibility, and why haven’t you asked China to do more to be transparent on the [virus] origins?”(Snip)Biden, departing to tour tornado damage in Kentucky, gave no answer as he smiled and waved off the question.

An aspiring model who recently moved from her native Thailand to pursue her dreams in the Big Apple said she is 'lucky to be alive' after a brutal beating in the subway by a deranged mugger last month. In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Bew Jirajariyawetch, 23, said the horrific 4 am attack after she was coming home from a concert is still a blur when she was grabbed from behind in a chokehold, thrown to the ground, punched in the face and robbed of her purse at the 34th Street Herald Square station on November 22.(Snip)'There were so many police officers at the subway after the attack

Mexican and South American "migrants" are escorted to waiting Catholic Social Services buses by the US Border Patrol, after they're given a letter asking them to maybe kinda consider reporting to the authorities later on, and given instructions in Spanish on how to enroll in our failed nation's rich array of welfare services. Do Russians get the same deal, or is that reserved for People of Color?
