New York—Dollar Tree will soon be $1.25 tree. The company—one of America's last remaining true dollar stores—said Tuesday it will raise prices from $1 to $1.25 on the majority of its products by the first quarter of 2022. The change is a sign of the pressures low-cost retailers face holding down prices during a period of rising inflation. Dollar Tree (DLTR) said in a quarterly earnings release Tuesday that its decision to raise prices to $1.25 permanently, however, was "not a reaction to short-term or transitory market conditions." Selling stuff strictly for $1 hampered Dollar Tree, the company said, and forced it stop selling some

Soon enough the dollar stores will have to put up large gas station signs that will display the prices, but which can easily be changed daily.

I am old enough to remember "five and dime" stores, where everything they sold cost 5 or 10 cents.

They'll have to change the name to Many Dollars Tree before long. Zimbabwe currency gladly accepted.

I remember TG&Y stores in the old days. We called it the 5 & Dime store. I was offended when stores were suddenly called The Dollar Store. I don't think the prospect of paying twenty-five cents more is too big of a deal.

Same as #3. We had a McCrory’s, a McClellans and a couple of others over the years. It was a real treat to go with my mom. I can still remember the smell of the roasting peanuts.

Dollar Tree and Dollar General doing all they can to shore up China's sagging sales of cheap crap. Find something NOT made in China.

As a kid I noticed that the lawnmower rev'd up a lot just before it ran out of gas. The same thing is going to happen to this economy. Prices revving up are a precursor to completely running out of gas and total shutdown.

If inflation is only 6.2%, why are they raising prices to $1.25? Seems to me using a plain 6%, the price increase should only be $1.06. They're making a killing raising the price to $1.25.

Our Dollar Tree stores jumped prices over a week ago. And Bingo! All of a sudden the shelves are full. I don't care what you say, 25 cents per item is still 25%. That's a bigger increase than WalMart took at first. Of course WalMart has continued to raise prices on items they raised the first time. My yogurt went from 84 cents to 98 cents, it is now $1.04. I noticed yesterday that Dollar General and Family Dollar look like they have been looted.

I love Dollar Tree! I probably go there every other week. I buy Greeting cards, Party Napkins and Plates, Palmolive Dish Soap, great Cookies and other cute stuff that winds up in my Basket. Yes, I could pay three times that much for these things at Publix, but I choose not to. The store I go to is well stocked and clean. I don't care if it's now $1.25, I will continue to go there. As for everything being from China, that's true of every store you go to!

My favorite close to my home that I like to frequent is Family Dollar. Family Twenty Dollar just doesn't have an appealing sound to it.
