Democrats have a Kyrsten Sinema problem when it comes to raising taxes.
As they seek to finalize President Joe Biden’s social spending plan by the end of the week, Sinema (D-Ariz.) remains opposed to one of the party's chief goals of raising tax rates on high-income earners and corporations, a long-sought objective since former President Donald Trump signed his 2017 tax cut law.
Now, party leaders are working behind the scenes to target the wealthy and corporate America without crossing what increasingly appears like a red line to Sinema, according to Democratic lawmakers and aides following the bill.

Senate Republicans on Wednesday blocked Democrats’ attempt to open debate on the Freedom to Vote Act, a pared-back version of the elections legislation that Democrats attempted to pass earlier this year.
The Senate voted 51-49 to block debate on the bill, with all Senate Republicans voting against the bill. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) also voted against the bill, which will allow him to ask for another vote on the legislation according to Senate procedures.
Democrats contended that the legislation is necessary to expand voting access nationwide. Republicans countered that the law represents a federal takeover of elections that should be controlled by the states.

U.S. authorities detained more than 1.7 million illegal immigrants at the southern border during the 2021 fiscal year that ended in September as arrests by Border Patrol surged to the highest levels ever recorded, according to a new report.
According to unpublished U.S. Customs and Border Protection data obtained by the Washington Post, agents made 1.66 million arrests along the Mexico border only, topping the previous high of 1.64 million taken into custody in 2000 along the Mexico border, the report says.
The new data show Mexico was the single largest source of illegal migration during the fiscal year, with more than 608,000 Mexican nationals arrested at the border.

Is there a more well-known saying than “If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging?” Yet, apparently, that nugget of wisdom has not reached the hallowed halls of the White House. Today, even as the supply chain crisis grows, Jen Psaki decided it’d be a great idea to mock suffering Americans. You know, because this entire thing is about not being able to get a treadmill or something.
Remember President Ron Klain’s recent endorsement of the idea that inflation and supply chain issues are a “high-class” problem? This is the double down by an administration that just can’t get out of its own way.

In what seems like an attempt to distance President Joe Biden from the supply chain crisis ravaging the country and the globe, the Washington Post — which is owned by Jeff Bezos, one of the richest men in the world — published an op-ed on Monday telling American consumers to “try to lower expectations” moving forward.
“Rather than living constantly on the verge of throwing a fit, and risking taking it out on overwhelmed servers, struggling shop owners or late-arriving delivery people, we’d do ourselves a favor by consciously lowering expectations,” Micheline Maynard wrote for the Post.

President Joe Biden’s approval rating continues to fall, with 37 percent of Americans approving the job he is doing, according to a Quinnipiac poll released on Tuesday.
While only 37 percent of Americans approve of Biden’s job performance, 52 percent disapprove. The numbers are similar when asked about their opinion of the president.
Only 38 percent of Americans report a favorable opinion of Biden, whereas 50 percent have an unfavorable opinion.
Biden’s approval numbers have drastically declined since his botched Afghanistan pullout at the end of August. The last time Biden’s approval rating was positive was in the days leading up to the August 31 Afghanistan withdrawal. Federal vaccine

Tech billionaire Peter Thiel broke the mold in 2020, when he spoke at the Republican National Convention and supported Donald Trump. His foray into politics got him excommunicated from the LGBTQ community. The Advocate, a prominent LBGTQ publication, declared that while Thiel may have relationships with other men, he is not gay.
It appears Thiel’s desire to influence GOP politics is not over.
Politico reports that Thiel contributed the maximum amount to Harriet Hageman, who is challenging Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.). This follows President Trump’s endorsement of Hageman. He has also donated to Joe Kent, Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler’s (R-Wash.) primary challenger. Both sitting

Fed-up parents made waves Tuesday after they filed a “federal civil rights lawsuit” against radical Attorney General Merrick Garland for unjustly suggesting parents protesting at school board meetings were committing “domestic terrorism.” This major development in the fight to de-radicalize liberal school boards went completely unmentioned by the evening newscasts of ABC, CBS, and NBC, just as did their weekend protest outside the Department of Justice.
Instead of reporting on the parents fighting back against the Biden administration’s tyranny, ABC’s World News Tonight was busy touting a transgendered “woman” being installed as a four-star general. On the CBS Evening News, they were hawking and huffing about cops and firefighters

Salena Zito warned everyone first, and Punchbowl follows up today with the same message: Joe Manchin means what he says. Democrats and the media may not grasp this as it happens so rarely in Washington, and neither group has included that in its calculations. However, that reality keeps getting clearer and clearer, and the Punchbowl crew warn Democrats to figure it out — fast:
Manchin has been remarkably consistent, and all the major media outlets have reported it time and time again. If you’re surprised by what Manchin is saying now, maybe you’ve been really busy, tied up on other endeavors and haven’t listened to or read what he’s said.

According to a recent report, executives at Microsoft were aware of company founder Bill Gates’ behavior with female employees and warned Gates to stop pestering one woman with flirtatious emails.
The Wall Street Journal reports that in 2008, executives at Microsoft discovered emails between company founder Bill Gates and a mid-level female employee. At the time, Gates was still employed at Microsoft and was a chairman of the board. In the messages, Gates who was married at the time, appeared to flirt with the female employees and propositioned her. Two of the company’s top executives

Blame the American consumer! That’s the approach liberal outlet Axios used to explain away the atrocious labor shortages affecting the U.S. economy, and not President Joe Biden’s economic policies. Axios published a snobbish piece headlined, “Unruly customers threaten economic recovery.”
The outlet’s asinine argument was that “increasingly violent and combative customers,” angry about “long wait times and mask mandates,” were causing workers to quit, hamstringing a recovery that hinges in part on employees “returning to work.” But unlike Axios, The Wall Street Journal editorial board didn’t hesitate to pin the labor shortage blame on the proper culprit: “Bidenomics.”

After wrecking the supply chain, the White House should be begging for mercy from consumers.
After all, it was Democrats, including some in the White House, who created the supply chain mess, leaving mass numbers of ships stranded at ports. Transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg went on extended family leave without appointing a deputy or telling much of anyone. California's ruling Democrats put into place laws that prohibit independent truckers or trucks more than three years old from collecting containerized merchandise from port offloads. California Democrat union allies kept port labor at banker's hours, unlike their globally competitive rivals. Joe Biden's Fed printed money
