Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) on Saturday came out strong against her party's decision — one backed by President Biden — to delay a vote on the Senate's bipartisan infrastructure bill until the larger, more sweeping reconciliation package is ready to go. The centrist Sinema is not a fan of tying the two pieces of legislation together, however, as she reveleaded in Saturday's statement. She called the dual-track approach "an ineffective stunt" and said she has "never, and would never, agree to any bargain that would hold one piece of legislation hostage to another." While she didn't mention them by name, Sinema also

Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh reportedly tested positive for COVID, raising the very important question: WHO CARES?! It apparently has to be said that testing positive for COVID is not in itself newsworthy. In particular if the person has received a vaccine, which Kavanaugh purportedly has. As of Friday, he hasn’t been hospitalized. He’s not even showing any symptoms, according to a spokeswoman for the court. So, again, who cares? Wishing him the best, but positive cases shouldn’t be of any particular interest to anyone. Honestly, unless Dr. Fauci dies of COVID, the entire pandemic is no longer a story.

America's oldest-ever living president just turned 97. Jimmy Carter celebrated the milestone at his home in Plains, Georgia, with his wife of 75 years, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter. "There are no public events planned for President Carter's 97th birthday, which he will spend in Plains," the Carters' spokeswoman tells PEOPLE. The spokeswoman added that the public could "send their birthday wishes" via an online card at the couples' Carter Center. Among the many messages shared online were memories of their service or meeting them in Georgia. Born Oct. 1, 1924, in Plains, Carter served as a state senator and

Democratic Rep. Jared Huffman of California had some choice words on Tuesday for an unnamed Democratic House member who had been leaking details of from a morning Democratic caucus meeting to Capitol Hill reporters, calling the leaker a "schmuck" and a "coward." "Let me be really clear: I love most of my colleagues, but that particular live-leaker is a schmuck. And a coward," Huffman tweeted. (Snip) President Joe Biden is set to speak to another meeting of House Democrats at 3:30pm. Ahead of that meeting, House Democrats will be required to leave their phones in cubbies outside the meeting

Progressive Democrats have welcomed the delay in Congress' vote on the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, which they say should be linked to the $3.5 trillion Build Back Better package. The House of Representatives was due to vote on the bipartisan bill on Thursday, but the vote was postponed after late-night negotiations among the Democrats and divisions between progressives and moderates in the party. The $1.2 trillion bill passed the Senate in August with bipartisan support, but progressive Democrats had said they would not vote for it unless the $3.5 trillion package advanced alongside it. Progressives could claim victory on

With a potential default looming for the U.S. in October, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Thursday she would just as soon see the power over debt limits taken away from Congress. A bill introduced in May would repeal the national debt ceiling, and Yellen said “yes, I would” when asked during a House hearing if she backs the effort. She noted Congress makes the decisions on taxes and spending, and should provide the ability to pay those obligations. “If to finance those spending and tax decisions, it’s necessary to issue additional debt, I believe it’s very disruptive to put the

Some people possess a version of a gene which can potentially restrain the virus which causes Covid-19, a study has indicated. The findings offer an explanation for why some people have better natural defences against serious Sars-CoV-2 infection, say scientists. Scientists suggest antiviral responses are better in people who have a more protective “prenylated” version of the OAS1 gene, while others have a version which fails to detect the virus. But if new variants learn to evade the protection offered by the prenylated gene they could become “substantially more pathogenic and transmissible in unvaccinated populations”, say experts. BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — Pro-choice messaging and anarchist symbols were found spray painted on the building of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Boulder County on Wednesday morning. "It was way worse than I had pictured in my mind," said Mark Evevard, the youth director at the church. The Boulder County Sheriff's Office said the vandalism happened at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The vandalism was discovered along a truck in the parking lot and church signs on the property. Parishioners believe the destruction is likely in response to the white crosses on the church lawn that symbolize the

Democratic anger is growing with Krysten Sinema, blaming her as the sole reason for holding up Joe Biden's $3.5 trillion social agenda as the party demands to know what the Arizona Democratic senator wants in exchange for her support. 'The president keeps begging her, tell us what you want. Put a proposal forward,' progressive Rep. Ro Khanna told CNN, adding that neither moderates nor liberals can name her demands. All eyes are turning to the 45-year-old senator, known for wearing candy-colored wigs during the COVID pandemic because she couldn't get her hair dyed, competing in Ironmans and touting her personal

WASHINGTON - U.S. congressional Democrats are considering including the first federal fee to tackle plastic pollution in the multitrillion-dollar reconciliation bill, a proposal that is drawing opposition from the plastics and petrochemical industry. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Representative Tom Suozzi are in talks with other Democrats to include their REDUCE Act as a source of revenue in the reconciliation bill. It would impose a 20-cent-per-pound fee on virgin - or new - plastic for single-use products such as plastic bags and beverage containers. The proposal is among a slew of money raisers being considered by the White House and Democrats to pay for

Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia has just put out a statement that serves as a sequel to his recent Wall Street Journal piece. “While I am hopeful that common ground can be found that would result in another historic investment in our nation,” Manchin notes, “I cannot — and will not — support trillions in spending or an all or nothing approach that ignores the brutal fiscal reality our nation faces.” As it should be, that “brutal fiscal reality” is clearly weighing on Manchin: Every Member of Congress has a solemn duty to vote for what they believe is

Vaccination rates among people who are pregnant have been low, despite evidence that vaccines can prevent the "severe risk of severe disease" posed to pregnant people from COVID-19. Only 18% of pregnant people have received a dose, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data. While new data shows overall racial disparities in COVID-19 vaccinations are improving, federal numbers show pregnant Black people are the least vaccinated compared to those expecting in other races. Just 15% of Black pregnant people are fully vaccinated and only 13% have received at least one dose, according to the CDC. Women giving birth
