There’s an interesting story in the Wall Street Journal today about the declining enrollment of men in 2 and 4-year colleges. This gender enrollment disparity is a trend that has been happening for a while now, but at this point the divergence between men and women is becoming pretty dramatic.
At the close of the 2020-21 academic year, women made up 59.5% of college students, an all-time high, and men 40.5%, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of enrollment data from the National Student Clearinghouse, a nonprofit research group. U.S. colleges and universities had 1.5 million fewer students compared with five years ago, and men

Because colleges are accepting women / rejecting men at historic rates.
And even if you get in as a man you're just going to get kicked out on a faked up rape charge anyway so why bother?

Sorry for second post. I had another idea. Those are the 10% of men who are identifying as women. It's actually 50/50 if you counted for real and not in bizarro gender world.

Shouldn't be a surprise.
Spending countless hours per day on a PlayStation or Xbox, in your parent's basement, is an exhaustive feat. Very little time, if any, for academia.
Hey Mom, are my clothes cleaned and folded yet?

Include the areas of study in the comparison. If the bogus SJW degree enrollees are factored out, I suspect the ratio would be closer to even.

Or maybe they're to smart to get into hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt that would take decades to pay off. What's the ratio of men to women in trade schools? After learning a trade, these people make better money sooner than those with a college degree.

College is bullshit for most men. Enduring years of false rape charges & hatred from feminists & libtards is hardly worth it. Very few occupations actually require sitting in a marxist brainwashing environment for 5 years., and for those occupations that do, a college degree will not prepare you in the least.
We really have to break up the academic cartel. It is racist and communist to prevent people from making a living unless they pay the extortion. Join the underground economy - stop paying taxes. The government hates you - you owe the government nothing

To answer the author's final question, 'They already know and simply don't give a damn.' Our educational system is, itself, horribly biased against boys from elementary school onward. Boys do better when taught by themselves without girls in the same classroom and when taught by male teachers. Boys NEED PE to burn off energy and to learn male-male socialization without girls present. Female teachers as a rule prefer girls who are at least in the elementary environment more docile and eager to please than boys. We don't need racial segregation - we need gender segregation. The author's stats speak to college enrollment but the downstream consequences include professions like medicine which are frapidly skewing toward female domination and successful women who cannot find a suitable mate. Boys need dads in the home and father figures apart from coaches.

Maybe just maybe young men are actually smarter and have found cheaper and better ways to succeed in early life without indebting themselves to the tune of $75k for a worthless degree.
Plus, let's face it.... why enslave yourself to a system that hates you, that favors women at every turn, and that rewards any man that succeeds with a frivolous divorce, massive child support, and all the other lovely things decent good guys have to deal with when tangling with feral females?

This caught my eye, from the WSJ piece: U.S. colleges and universities had 1.5 million fewer students compared with five years ago
There are a little under 20 million students enrolled, for this is a 7%+ decline, and a serious "challenge" to their debt-dependent business model.
I don't know if the decline is simply demographics—fewer kids—or a rational decision to avoid that debt and indoctrination.
Maybe both.

Gee, I wonder why men aren’t paying $100k+ and fours years of their lives suffering through gynocentrism and misandrist propaganda only to receive a piece of paper of little value and no personal worth?

White men are treated like predators and buffoons at a lot of schools. If one can get on-the-job training and start earning money right after high school, why go into tens of thousands of dollars of debt? Why pay to have nasty, disgruntled female professors insist that you sit still during "diversity" training?
Men are proving how smart they are by walking away and living their lives as decent citizens, husbands and fathers.

In some colleges, men are treated like scum. They are lectured on toxic masculinity and told they need to check their privilege. They are told they are third rate and need to step aside. So no wonder they don't go.

College has become an utter waste of time and money. Learn a trade and work your way up. You won’t be in debt and your head won’t be screwed up.

One more comment.
Ds is almost done with HVAC trade school courses. Of the 30 students he started out with and the 30 each in the 2 trimesters following his initial trimester, do you know how many WOMEN are in this lottery funded, debt free schooling program? ZERO! None!
Same for automotive both repair and body. Same for welding, a highly lucrative and sought after skill.
Only when you go to the nursing program and the beautician program do you find women.
So where is the article asking why women don't enter traditional trades, why women don't want to do these dirty jobs?

Or maybe the men's mindset is going back to the Fifties. Many Young Men, who graduated High School, did not go on to College. They went to work for the Local Gas, Electric or Telephone company. They had a good paying job for life. Many advanced into the Office. Other young men went into the Trades. They were Builders, Electricians and Plumbers. Some went to the Factories and became Welders or some worked keeping the Trains running. A lot of guys simply didn't WANT a desk job! They made good money, married, bought a home, had a Family and became great Dads and Little League Coaches! Life was good! That was the Era I grew up in. I knew many of these Men. They were all about God, Family and being a Good Person. Wish I could say that about a lot of Young Men today who at 30 are still living in their parents Basement!

There were some interesting comments under the article. One of the commenters, a person calling itself “Edith”, said people with degrees go on to become leaders while the ones who go to trade schools stay right where they are until their knees blow out from physical labor. An oversimplification I know, but it does seem to be true. That’s the way Ivy League schools sell themselves, after all, isn’t it? “If you want to be at the top, you have to have our degree”, hype.
I just know I don’t want my family or country to live under Marxists or a matriarchy. (Not any difference between them.)
It’s a mess isn’t it.

As more and more forces are applied to assure equal outcome it should come as no great surprise that the added effort and expense to end up in the same place is losing it's appeal.

Maybe most men aren’t interested in an office job surrounded by obese women in polyester pant suits tailored by Omar the Tentmaker while being forced into CRT training.

The business/professional working environment for males is tainted with government-mandated discrimination via quota requirements. But I have found that when you need a plumber, electrician, mechanic, or welder--these people are really more important than most college educated people.

#14 is right. At some colleges men are treated like scum. A nearby college, Gettysburg College, recently had a freshman seminar-- required of all entering students-- on "Toxic Masculinity." To be male is to be poisonous. Maleness in itself-- assertiveness, competitiveness-- is toxic. How is that for a message to young men? Many colleges across the country have had such courses, often required regardless of major.
Then there is "White Privilege" which is aimed primarily at white men. Put the two collegiate messages together: if you are a white male, you are toxic and also undeserving of credit for any achievements. You got where you are because of your skin color.
Let me mention one more thing. If a female goes to a dean and says that a particular male student raped her, or sexually assaulted her, that guy is sunk. The case is handled completely within the college-- which means absent police involvement, therefore no legal depositions, no rape kit evidence. The accused and his accuser go before a panel that is overwhelmingly predisposed to find the male guilty. He will be branded as a rapist and that becomes part of his academic record if he tries to transfer.
I recently retired from academia, and there is so much more to be said about the anti-male disposition at most institutions of higher learning. White men are not just dropping out of the college path to a profession, they are being driven out by harpy feminists who hate them and black racists who hate them.

The entire education system in this country starting in kindergarten is geared toward girls. College is no different. Boys are allowed to attend, but are constantly being told to conform to some feminist ideal. In general, if boys attend college, it's to study some technical education that will lead them to employment quickly. Otherwise they view going to college as a waste of time and money.

Just a hunch, but maybe men (boys guided by fathers) are discovering they can pursue a more lucrative career at a technical school, avoid being brow-beaten by feminist administrators and fellow students, graduate and actually earn more money than their college counterparts, and evade crushing student loan debt.

#25 I live north of Gettysburg......up Rt 15 near The Capital City.
The X's nephew went to a Vo-Tech School to be a machinist. He worked in that field for a while. In his 30's he started a business as a arborist. He has worked hard for his success. He has many expensive trucks and other equipment. He has taken special courses for bug identification etc. I salute his success.

In this failing nation we have physically adult males who have been raised by women who have no husbands. Thus, the physically adult men have no vocational direction. They attend college and receive even more indirection. These physically adult men have no dreams of a career and are led then to "uh computers or something." They have no moral leaders. They have no real male heroes. They have no idea of the value of a woman....and they are ignorant of the real God.
