Two weeks ago, Ranjith “Roy” Kankanamalage, 50, was discovered with a fatal head injury in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, east London. The brutal attack was, police believe, motivated by homophobia and a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. A day earlier, a couple called Rob and Patrick were attacked with broken bottles in Birmingham’s gay village, leaving one unconscious and the other with extensive cuts. Three men have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and wounding.(Snip)Local activists and national campaigners have told the Guardian that this spate of attacks across the UK, while unconnected, underscores a climate of fear endured by the LGBTQ+ community on the streets.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken was reportedly vacationing in the Hamptons just hours before Kabul fell to the Taliban, despite warnings that the city was at risk. Blinken was one of several top-level Biden administration officials to have gone on vacation the Friday before the Afghan capitol was taken by the group on August 15. President Joe Biden himself was also on a trip away, and had arrived at the presidential retreat at Camp David that day. Blinken was already on vacation, according to a timeline of the events leading up to Kabul's capture compiled by the Washington Post. The officials appeared to not be overly concerned

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the White House on Monday will complete a circle of politics and intrigue spanning three U.S. administrations. President Biden has put Ukrainian corruption near the top of the agenda when he sits down in the Oval Office with Mr. Zelenskyy. It’s the same issue that has imbued both Washington’s and Mr. Biden’s relationship with the Eastern European country for nearly a decade.
Mr. Zelenskyy, a comedian, actor and political neophyte who was elected Ukraine’s president in 2019, wasn’t always at the center of the U.S.-Ukraine circle. But when he was, it was a doozy.(Snip)Documents found on Hunter Biden’s laptop

Ben Sasse said President Joe Biden doesn't have any plan in place to get American citizens and Afghan allies out of Afghanistan after the withdrawal deadline of August 31 passes. 'The American people have a right to be livid about it,' the Nebraska Republican senator told ABC News' Martha Raddatz.
'There is clearly no plan,' Sasse blasted the administration. 'There has been no plan. Their plan has basically been happy talk.'(Snip)'What we need,' Sasse said, 'is a commander in chief that actually has a big plan and a big way to solve this problem. President Biden has been repeatedly disconnected from reality.'

Kabul, Afghanistan—Three children were killed in a drone strike that U.S. officials said struck a vehicle carrying Islamic State suicide bombers, an Afghan official said. The official spoke on condition of anonymity out of security concerns. U.S. officials said the vehicle was carrying explosives and that the initial strike on Sunday set off secondary explosions. The American officials said the bombers planned to attack Kabul’s international airport, where a massive airlift is still underway ahead of a Tuesday deadline for the withdrawal of U.S. forces.

A former Obama administration Cabinet official on Sunday compared Americans who oppose face masks and vaccines to suicide bombing terrorists that killed Americans at the Kabul airport. As the families of U.S. service members that died as a result of the ISIS-K attack in Afghanistan last week met with President Biden, Arne Duncan tweeted that he saw a comparison between the killers in Afghanistan and those Americans who oppose masks and vaccines. “Have you noticed how strikingly similar both the mindsets and actions between the suicide bombers at Kabul’s airport, and the anti-mask and anti-vax people here?”(Snip)“They both blow themselves up, inflict harm on

A California high school teacher is being investigated by the school board after she revealed she'd got her students to pledge allegiance to the gay pride flag instead of the American one. He’s a one man menace, a walking tornado of trash. They call him the “Can Tipper” of the Upper East Side—and he can’t be stopped by the NYPD, homeless outreach workers or local politicians. For years, a homeless man has made a habit of knocking over garbage cans on a roughly 15-block stretch of Lexington Ave. around E. 80th St., frustrating business owners and residents who say they’ve been unable to stop the near-daily mayhem. “Everyday he comes in and says, ‘hey [expletives]’ and then a bunch of racist stuff about how I am Middle Eastern and how I shouldn’t be here,” said Habeeb Nasr

Whistleblowers say the US Environmental Protection Agency has been falsifying dangerous new chemicals’ risk assessments in an effort to make the compounds appear safe and quickly approve them for commercial use. Over the past five years, the EPA has not rejected any new chemicals submitted by industry despite agency scientists flagging dozens of compounds for high toxicity. Four EPA whistleblowers and industry watchdogs say a revolving door between the agency and chemical companies is to blame, and that the program’s management has been “captured by industry”. The charges are supported by emails, documents and additional records that were provided to the Guardian.

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has praised the Biden administration’s evacuation of US citizens and Afghan allies from Kabul, as the deadline for America’s full withdrawal fast approaches. On Saturday, MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan asked Ms Omar if the president “surprised” her with his commitment to ending the 20-year war. “He certainly has,” the congresswoman responded. “The level of evacuation that his administration has been able to undertake is really inspiring and there’s important work that’s getting done.”(Snip)The Minnesota representative also urged Americans to welcome in as many Afghan refugees as possible in the wake of the crisis, especially those who risked their lives to assist the US military.
