A suspected home intruder has died after initiating a shoot-out with a rural California homeowner, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.
The deceased, 41-year-old Rodney Lee Martin, was found inside the home with a stolen firearm on his person, authorities said.
At around 12:22 p.m. on Friday, deputies responded to a 911 call from a homeowner in unincorporated Modesto, according to a statement from the sheriff's office. Upon arrival, they found Martin dead from at least one gunshot wound.

In the UK and most EU countries it is a crime to use deadly force to protect property. Wonder how far Kalifornia has come along these lines.

What is a “ home intruder?” The guy broke into someone’s house. Got shot for breaking and entering. A thief. We are still allowed to defend ourselves and our homes. Which all could change right after we are declared a non country without borders. We might have to remove all doors. Open borders. Open houses. The robber got what he deserved!

3, in California it is not true that you can defend your property.
At last check the law here says you are legally required to attempt escape and only if fleeing is impossible and your life is in danger may you then defend yourself.
I fear for the homeowner in this case. It's borderline from the summary.

FTA: FOX 40 noted that Friday's incident was the second death that week of a suspected home intruder in the Modesto area.
The consideration that home owners are armed is the first line of deterrence to home invasions. News of these acts of deadly force self defense takes the deterrence beyond the abstract level.

A prima facie case of intrusion. Suspected?

This makes me reflect on my own preparedness or lack thereof.
I don't think I'd have the balls to do what this homeowner did. First, unless I was already packing, to quietly enter the home, grab a firearm and then confront the intruder letting the latter get off the first round as though constrained by some sense of a fair fight, is way beyond me. I'd ambush the basturd. I see no reason to wait for the confirmation that he was armed affording him the chance to shoot first. He's in my house going through my stuff which establishes the opportunity to arm himself.

Given that the police in most of these high crime areas are understaffed, handcuffed by their own local governments and are reluctant to protect anything, this homeowner was justified in shooting him. As #8 said, it doesn't have to be a fair fight if it's your life that is in danger. Drop him. Rodney Lee will not do that again.

In California, you not only have the right to protect yourself and others in public, but also within your own home. California’s “Castle Doctrine” law recognizes a person’s right to use deadly force inside of his or her own home when someone uses force to break in. While California does not have a dedicated "Stand Your Ground" law, it does recognize an individual’s right to use force without first trying to escape.

California Criminal Code 198.5.
"Any person using force intended or likely to cause death or great bodily injury within his or her residence shall be presumed to have held a reasonable fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily injury to self, family, or a member of the household when that force is used against another person, not a member of the family or household, who unlawfully and forcibly enters or has unlawfully and forcibly entered the residence and the person using the force knew or had reason to believe that an unlawful and forcible entry occurred."

it seems Rodney Moron drifted from the city where he plied his trade into the 'netherlands' where people act differently. Some people are still responsible about their family and property protection Rodney had to learn the hard way with his life. Oh well another story with a happy ending.

What's with this suspected BS? The robber was armed and inside the home when he was killed. That's not suspected. That's a robbery in progress inside someone's home. This clown was committing a crime, and now the taxpayers don't have to shell out more money for a trial and possibly housing in a jail. The loser is the criminal. The winners are the taxpayers of California, and all it cost was the price of a bullet.

Since tis is California the following will be true: He was not an intruder, he was an uninvited guest. He was not a committing a crime unless he intended to steal at least $900.00 worth of goods from the home. The home owner was obviously a white supremacist, racist, NRA loving, Republican, Trump loving insurrectionist and should be arrested immediately with ANITFA and BLM riots to follow for the outright murder of the innocent house guest.

I see the purp had an unregistered firearm, see how all these criminals obey the law? Anyway, the homeowner will be lined up against the wall and shot for defending his property

My guess and hope is that the rural California counties are nothing like LA and SF, and will thank homeowners like this one, rather than prosecute them.

just a suggestion, If you are legally armed and intend to defend your home in such an instance, It would behoove you to take a page from many cops in "the old days" and keep a cheap hand gun around that has no ties to you....

Once you get away from the bay area, LA and Sacramento the Sheriff and DA tend to be some degree of "Shall Issue" - the home invasions around here tend to be drug robberies with several preps looking for "stash & Cash" as opposed to this sort.
