In 251 A.D., a young woman resisted the sexual advances of Quintian, a Roman proconsul. Her resistance cost her a sentence in a local brothel and, eventually, her life. Before she died, she was subjected to tortures that included having her breasts torn off by pinchers. (snip) We are speaking of the recently appointed bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran church, Megan Rohrer. Rohrer, who identifies with the trans movement, has had her breasts surgically removed and now wishes to be referred to with the preferred pronouns "they" and "them."

as a member of the ELCA Lutheran denomination, I can tell you that we have lost about a third of our membership, nationally.
And the loss has been caused by the ordination of homosexuals. We have learned nothing from our Catholic brothers.

When is a church not a church? When there is no Christ in it and it has become a dwelling pace of demons. The Evangelical Lutheran "church" appears to have joined the ranks of the other daughters of Babylon the Great. Fallen, fallen, fallen.

Poster #4, I"m sure Planned Parenthood has a few spare Baal statues they could give to the church.

People of faith also need to think for themselves within their own principles based on their understanding of The Word, whether Christian, Muslim, Hindu or any other. Most are what sect or religion they profess by heredity. Their parents were thus, making them whatever. Christian churches are emptying throughout the Western world for a good reason. Their professions just don't ring sincere or true to a growing number. This appears to be another example.

Such a well written essay. The key for me was the taking away of human identity.

ELCA jokingly stands for "Every Liberal Cause Around." Our Church left ELCA about ten years ago for the LCMC (Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ) and haven''t looked back. We lost some members initially, but the congregation has grown -- slowly, but growing.

I am Lutheran (LCMS) and since Missouri Synod, a more traditional form of Lutheranism, churches are harder to find I attended ELCA services in eastern Pennsylvania for a few months. The sermons were unbearable. Almost no mention of Christ but lots of NYT and NYT Book Review quotes, references to pop culture and a liberal belief system. It’s as if Christ and Martin Luther never existed or at least they are kind of embarrassing.
Mentally ill, self-loathing basket cases can’t lead people to Christ.

Over the past thousand years, Megan Rohrer would have been considered mentally ill or possessed by demonic spirits. In today's woke America, she's considered a heroine. That's how mentally ill our society has become.

Anytime they show one of these idiots who demand people to use their preferred pronouns; ''they/them''... remind me of Buffalo Bill in ''Silence of the Lambs''. He would refer to his victims as ''it'' to objectify them as not being human. ''It rubs the lotion on its' skin or else it gets the hose, again.'' ''It puts the lotion in the basket, it does this whenever it is told.''

We’re in the same boat, #8. The process of leading my congregation out of the ELCA was bitter and draining, but that was nothing compared to the joy of being able to say, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

My United Methodist Church will split next year over more or less the same reasons. Our local FMC will remain traditional (conservative) and there will likely be lawsuits over buildings and assets. The mostly liberal bishops caused this. They were dishonest and devious about what they wanted the church to become..

This has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus Christ and His church.

I'm writing this at a time on Sunday morning when I used to be in my ELCA church. Our previous pastor, who'd been around for over twenty years focused on the Bible. He left and our new pastor came to us and has revealed himself to be fully woke. The last straw was his putting out the equivalent of a manifesto supporting BLM after Jan 6. All that's left of our once thriving church are left-leaners. It's heart breaking. Looking for a new church at my age isn't easy.

I switched to the LCMS from the ELCA church I had been baptized in as a child. I quit the ELCA when my child was attending Sunday School and the whole human sexuality studies were going on. While talking to several senior members in my church I found they were completely blind to what the purpose of the studies was. I left when they started their second series of the HS studies because I knew it was only a matter of time before they got the "right" answer and convinced enough dunderheads to go along with allowing homosexual leadership within the church. I considered staying and fighting the takeover, but my son would have been influenced by their heretical thinking. I couldn't have that. I have never looked back. It's as though the people in the ELCA had never read the OT and NT together.

Liberal churches are like liberal Supreme Court justices. Liberal churches invent things that God and Jesus would approve of, and ignore explicit instructions like "Go and sin no more" in an attempt to make flawed people feel good. As we all know, liberal Supreme Court justices find "rights" by twisting words in the Constitution, while ignoring explicit words such as "shall not be infringed."

Mainline Protestants aren’t following the Bible (actually the opposite), and the Catholics are following neither the Bible nor the Saints. Church leadership in all cases has become feminized and homosexualized. Throw in a few denominations dominated by hipster pastors and happy-clappy praise band, and any sense of the Sacred is lost.
There is seemingly no place to go now.

Respectfully disagree with the sweeping caption given the article, “Evangelical Lutherans Accept Self-Mutilation as Christian.” Not all “evangelical Lutherans” are members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Scripture is the inerrant Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20-21). The Apostle Paul makes clear that women are prohibited from serving as pastors in the church (1 Corinthians 14:33-34, 37 – 1 Timothy 2:11-12 – 1 Timothy 3:1-2 – Titus 1:5-6). As has been written, “St. Paul goes out of his way, on more than one occasion, to repeat his position on this matter, and explicitly declares that this is not merely his personal opinion, but a command of the Lord.”
God gave the responsibility to serve as pastors “only to certain qualified men. ... Women are not called to serve in this way because God has not given this responsibility to women.” God has given His Word and any church wanting to remain faithful to His Word cannot permit the ordination of women to the pastoral office. Only God can answer “why” He prohibits women from serving as pastors in the church and His will should be given honor and respect.
God has given many gifts to His church and believers should receive what God has given in the way He has given it “and in the form He has given it.” Not to tell God “that His gift is not good enough for us, or that we don’t like the form in which He has given the gift.” Men and women can serve others through their different but complementary ways—serving each other in love that complies with the Word of God.
#1~ Perhaps it is time to seriously consider leaving the ELCA for a Lutheran Church that adheres to Scripture as the inerrant Word of God. Left the ECLA around 1996 when liberalism began creeping into the ECLA and regret not having done so decades earlier.
#3~ Respectful clarification: It is the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) that has embraced liberalism and not, so far, thankfully, other “evangelical” Lutheran Churches that remain faithful to God’s Word.
#8~ Your Lutheran Church is to be commended for having the courage to transition to the LCMS.
#9~ Praying for success in finding another LCMS Church home. Perhaps calling the LCMS District Synod office might be helpful in that search.
#12~ Sincerely appreciate and extend profound gratitude for recognizing the need for and the courage to make that necessary, respectful to God's Word transition. Indeed, as a former member of the ELCA, now LCMS, heartily agree, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
#16~ Left the ELCA more than 20 years ago after seeing liberalism creeping in and regret not having left decades earlier. Strategy was to visit three LCMS Lutheran Synod affiliated churches on a rotating basis to get a sense of the pastor and the congregation and settled on one that felt like “home” with its warmth, caring and, most importantly, adherence to God’s Word. It has been a blessing.
#17~ Admiration and respect for such wisdom and courage. Well done! Blessings!

Scripture teaches that God made them male and female (Genesis 5:2, Mark 10:6). Regardless of surgical changes, transgenders remain the gender with which they were conceived. Tampering with God’s created order may not be pleasing to God and may be made known on Judgment Day.
