Welfare for the Rich

Congress passed the $2.2 trillion Heroes Act. House Democrats said it gives money to “governments who desperately need funds.” But it also gives lots of money to people who don’t need funds. Maryland, which even The Washington Post admits is “flush with cash,” got enough extra money to pass a budget that “hands bonuses to every state worker.” Even Atherton, California, where the median home price is $6 million, got Heroes Act money. “There was no means test!” complains Lisa Conyers, author of Welfare for the Rich, in my latest video. Omni Hotels & Resorts received $68 million in loans. Major airlines got $25 billion in loans from the CARES Act.

American credit card balances saw a 'remarkable' drop in the first quarter of 2021, according to newly published New York Fed data, while student loan debt kept rising despite a payment and interest pause. WASHINGTON — In a move to send the country back toward pre-pandemic life, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday eased indoor mask-wearing guidance for fully vaccinated people, allowing them to safely stop wearing masks inside in most places. The new guidance still calls for wearing masks in crowded indoor settings like buses, planes, hospitals, prisons and homeless shelters but will help clear the way for reopening workplaces, schools, and other venues — even removing the need for masks or social distancing for those who are fully vaccinated.

One of the reasons that some on the left have been so intent on calling President Donald Trump a racist and his supporters “white supremacists” is because they see how untrue that is, how Trump broadened the base with policies that appeal to all and they’ve been trying to throw a wrench into that. Now, a new study is showing just how true that is and it’s going to give folks on the left fits. No, Trump supporters are not just “angry white men” or whatever stereotype liberals like to throw out there. According to newly released data from Catalist, the majority
Texas law now allows alcohol to go from restaurants

Alcohol to go is now law in Texas after Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday signed a bill to permanently allow Texans to include alcohol in take-out orders from restaurants, achieving a shared goal of Abbott and restaurateurs. House Bill 1024 allows beer, wine and mixed drinks to be included in pickup and delivery food orders, securing a revenue stream made available to restaurants during the pandemic when their dining areas were forced to close. Because the measure was approved by more than two-thirds of the House and Senate, it went into effect as soon as Abbott signed it.

Colonial Pipeline Co. paid the group that hacked its pipeline a nearly $5 million ransom in untraceable cryptocurrency within hours of the cyberattack, two people familiar with the payment told Bloomberg on Thursday. The report contradicts Colonial’s public assertion that it did not pay the hacking group Darkside ransom following the cyberattack. A third person familiar with the ransom said the U.S. government is aware Colonial paid Darkside. Colonial declined Bloomberg‘s request for comment. The attack forced Colonial to temporarily shut down much of its services, causing gas shortages and rising prices across the east coast.
White House: Joe Biden Focused on Making
Life Better for Migrants, Not Visiting the Border

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Wednesday that President Joe Biden was focused on making life better for unattended migrant minors on the border, not traveling to the southern border to address the crisis. “Our focus remains on solutions,” she said at the White House daily press briefing. She dismissed calls for President Biden to visit the southern border to address the crisis, arguing it would not help the children found unattended on the border. “If going to the border changed that or helped that, that would be one thing, but our focus is on implementing pieces so we can make their lives better,” she said.

He added that cryptocurrency is a "good idea on many levels" but its promise cannot come at a "great cost to the environment." Tesla, he added, won't be selling any of the Bitcoin it owns.

CNN host Don Lemon rarely utters a widely held opinion, but he spoke for the majority of Americans on Monday night when he pleaded with his mother to “believe in the science” of vaccinations — and please come visit him. He also asked any jittery liberals who had been fully vaccinated but still feel uneasy about mingling in society without a mask to place as much faith in “the science and the scientists now, on this side of the pandemic,” as they did at the outset when they began socially distancing. Lemon revealed that he does not feel that he has to wear a mask

TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Ron DeSantis remains on solid ground as he heads into his reelection campaign as Democrats ramp up their efforts to challenge him, a fresh new round of polling in Florida shows. Three polls all have DeSantis with favorable job approval ratings more than a year and a half ahead of Election Day and highlight the difficulty that Democrats will have with the incumbent, who is raking in millions for his reelection effort. Still, at least one poll paid by Democratic state Sen. Annette Taddeo’s political committee, shared exclusively with POLITICO, shows that Democrats may have some openings to go after

What goes around comes around, I suppose. After four years of the media fluffing letters from “former officials” and the like insisting that Donald Trump should be impeached, be charged with crimes, and not eat chocolate ice cream, the tables have turned just a bit. A group of 124 retired generals and admirals have penned a letter questioning Joe Biden’s mental fitness and urging the government to take election integrity seriously. You’ll have to excuse The Hill’s framing in the excerpt below. They aren’t nearly as accepting of this act of “civic duty” as they were when the target was Trump.

More than 150 Republicans have signed on to a letter calling for people to 'reimagine a party dedicated to our founding ideals or else hasten the creation of such an alternative.' The letter, organized by former 'Anonymous' op-ed author Miles Taylor and former CIA officer Evan McMullin, mentions the ouster Wednesday of former GOP conference chair Rep. Liz Cheney. It raises the possibility of a complete break with the GOP and the creation of a third party in the face of what the signers term 'despotism.'

It was said during our Mideast military adventures, and has been considered a truism of war, that you can’t really win a conflict without “boots on the ground.” For it’s difficult to completely subdue a people from afar. It may not be too different with battles for civilization. (snip) If you heard about a Third World country in which the leadership was purging the military of political opponents, would you assume it was just an exercise in ideological nepotism? (snip) So you need a purge. You do this by conjuring up a boogeyman — in our case “white supremacy”

House Republicans planted themselves firmly in the camp of Donald Trump on Wednesday when they removed Rep. Liz Cheney from their leadership team after her criticism of the former president. In a closed-door meeting in the basement of the Capitol, Republicans voted to oust Cheney after she repeatedly called out Trump's false claims he won the election and criticized his role in the January 6 insurrection. After a voice vote, Cheney said: ‘I will do everything I can to ensure that the former president never again, is anywhere near the Oval Office.’ Cheney had addressed Republicans in the room before the vote.

A group of more than 120 retired military officers have written President Joe Biden to tell him his election was less than legitimate – while questioning his mental acuity. The letter echoes former President Donald Trump's claims of widespread election fraud – which have not been borne out in the courts – and comes on a day when Rep. Liz Cheney ripped Trump for his claim that the election was 'stolen.' 'Without fair and honest elections that accurately reflect the 'will of the people' our Constitutional Republic is lost,' the letter from retired officers says.

You have to love liberal media. President Donald Trump is no longer in office, but he’s still living rent free in their heads. They’re still completely obsessed with him and basically can’t live without him. They always need him as a focal point. The New York Times ran this “gotcha” story today, as though it were something truly significant, “Over 100 Republicans, including former officials, threaten to split from G.O.P.” What is the issue, the New York Times says? The fact that the GOP still is supportive of Trump. “This is a first step,” said Miles Taylor,
