President Joe Biden launched a full-throated defense of his corporate tax hike to fund his $2.3 trillion dollar infrastructure plan, saying he was tired of ordinary Americans being fleeced. Biden pointed to the numerous companies that don't pay taxes, the Trump tax cuts that benefited top wage earners, and the amount of money billionaires made during the K-shaped economic recovery. 'I’m not trying to punish anybody, but damn it, maybe it's because I come from middle class neighborhood, I'm sick and tired of ordinary people being fleeced,' he said.Biden's tax proposal would hike the corporate tax rate to 28 per cent, increase the de facto global minimum tax

President Joe Biden will take new executive action Thursday aimed at reducing gun violence in the United States. Politico first reported Wednesday that the new measure — one of several “common sense” gun reforms Biden has promised to take — will require people purchasing “ghost guns,” homemade firearms without serial numbers, to undergo a federal background check. It remains unclear how many specific actions Biden is expected to take on guns, but reporting indicates the president will also seek to close the “Charleston Loophole,” which allows licensed dealers to transfer firearms to buyers before a background check is completed.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Tuesday made the case for cancelling $50,000 in student loan debt for borrowers across the nation. According to the senator, student loan debt burdens millions of Americans and “right now” is the time for lawmakers to act. Schumer described getting a higher education as a “ladder up” with “student debt being a weight down.” He cited a number of reasons for Americans taking on massive student loan debt, including the skyrocketing cost of tuition and low-wage jobs that are available for college students.“So many people have a mountain of debt on their shoulders. Americans are $1.7 trillion [in debt].

“No man’s life, liberty or property are safe while the Legislature is in session.”That’s how Gideon Tucker put it back in 1866, a New Yorker who knew Albany as a former legislator, secretary of state and judge. His wisdom, as demonstrated repeatedly over the ages, is timeless.Yet there is something different, and especially troubling, about this time. The possibility of permanent decline and the ultimate destruction of the New York we know is unmatched in modern memory. With Republicans reduced to hecklers, Albany Democrats, oblivious or reckless or both,
