A 39-year-old woman was killed in a drive-by shooting while sitting in a Bentley outside her Bronx home, police said Tuesday. A vehicle pulled up to the Bentley parked outside the Highbridge Gardens NYCHA housing development on University Ave. near W. 166th St. about 10:10 p.m. Monday and a gunman inside opened fire, cops said. The woman, sitting in the Bentley’s front passenger seat, was struck in the neck and torso. A 37-year-old man in the driver’s seat next to her was shot in the leg. Medics rushed both victims to Lincoln Hospital, where the woman died.

At least seven US colleges have said students must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to come back to their campuses this fall with Brown University and Northeastern University the latest to implement such rules.
Brown, Northeastern, Cornell University, Rutgers University, Fort Lewis College, Nova Southeastern University and St. Edward's University each announced COVID-19 vaccination requirements for returning students in recent weeks. Students with specific underlying medical conditions and religious beliefs can apply to be exempt from the rule which the institutions say is crucial to be able to welcome people back to in-person learning at full pre-pandemic capacity.

An ‘anti-racist’ group calling itself ‘White Lies Matter’ stole a $500,000 stone chair dedicated to Confederate leader Jefferson Davis and claims it will use the monument as a 'toilet' unless a Confederate women's group hangs a banner outside its headquarters bearing the words of a black militant who killed a state trooper. The Jefferson Davis Memorial Chair was first noticed missing on March 19 after it was taken from the Old Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, Alabama.(Snip) The women's group has said memorial statues and monuments are 'shared American history' and should remain in place. It hasn't issued a response

The White House clarified Tuesday that one study projects that President Biden’s $2.25 trillion infrastructure package will create roughly 2.7 million jobs—not the 19 million jobs administration officials had touted over the weekend. White House press secretary Jen Psaki cited a study from Moody’s that projects the U.S. economy will add 19 million jobs over the next decade if Congress passes Mr. Biden’s plan and about 16.3 million jobs if Congress doesn’t pass it. “So that is what the impact would be of the American Jobs Plan—2.7 million, to be totally clear,” Ms. Psaki said. “It is important to be clear and to be specific

Former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams has urged people not to boycott Georgia, but Sen. Rand Paul says she and other Democrats are squarely to blame for Major League Baseball’s decision to pull the All-Star Game out of Atlanta. The founder of Fair Fight, Ms. Abrams led the charge against Senate Bill 202, the Georgia election law that requires identification for absentee ballots, expands early voting and bans electioneering within 150 feet of polling entrances, calling it “Jim Crow 2.0.” “There’s all these people who are woke, but now even the woke like Stacey Abrams, are starting to see, oh, no what have I unleashed?

A homeless man giving directions inside a Manhattan subway station was punched out, stomped and robbed by a rival trying to sell illegal MetroCard swipes, police said Tuesday. Police identified the suspect as Ronald Bailey, 52, a repeat transit offender with more than 30 prior arrests. Bailey got angry because he was trying to sell swipes—discounted entries into the subway system using a doctored MetroCard—and felt the victim, also 52, was getting in the way, according to cops. Bailey allegedly floored his rival with a left hook on the mezzanine level of the subway station at Seventh Ave. and W. 34th St.

Homeland Security has removed the press release announcing the arrest of two Yemeni men on the terrorist watch list. The release was posted Monday, but by Tuesday morning it was no longer available. An archived version is still available at the Internet Archive. The deletion sparked questions on Capitol Hill. “Why did you take down your previously public tweet & press release announcing that two people on the terror watch list were apprehended exploiting President Biden’s open border policies?” demanded the Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee. “Transparency in name alone is not transparency,” said the Republicans, who are led by ranking member Rep. John Katko.

Navy Seabees have built Vice President Kamala Harris her own version of the Resolute desk made out of materials from historic U.S. warships. Harris' desk, which sits in her office in the West Wing of the White House, was put together using wood, copper and nails taken from the USS Constitution, which was commissioned under George Washington in 1794. The USS Constitution is one of the country's first frigates and is the oldest commissioned warship still afloat. It was launched in 1797 in Boston, Massachusetts, and now sits in Baltimore Harbor. Harris' desk has carvings of an eagle surrounded by stars from the Constitution's stern decorations.

As many as 246 Michigan residents considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 were later diagnosed with the virus, and three have died, state officials confirmed Monday. The cases were reported between Jan. 1 and March 31, and the 246 had a positive test 14 or more days after the last dose in the vaccine series, said Lynn Sutfin, a spokeswoman for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, in an email. "Some of these individuals may ultimately be excluded from this list due to continuing to test positive from a recent infection prior to being fully vaccinated," she said. "These cases are undergoing further review
