Rep. Matt Gaetz, fiery Florida lawmaker and avid supporter of former President Donald Trump, is reportedly set to retire from Congress after his current term to take a gig at Newsmax TV, now the fourth-biggest cable news outlet in the country.Axios reports: Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) has privately told confidants he’s seriously considering not seeking re-election and possibly leaving Congress early for a job at Newsmax, three sources with direct knowledge of the talks tell Axios. Gaetz is a provocative figure on the right who’s attracted attention by being a fierce defender of former President Trump.

If true, this is a real loss.

Privately? This from Axios, the evil spawn of those who founded Politico? Is this intended to be another undermining of a loyal Trump supporting Conservative representative? Sure sounds like it...

I’ve got the feeling he’s interested in bigger things than the house. Senate or President. Going with newsmax he will get national attention whenever he wants it. I think this is a good move on his part, but a temporary loss for the republicans party.

I am not surprised and I can see why he is leaving where he can possibly help the MAGA movement more. IF Republicans get the House in 2022, he sees there aren’t enough brave patriots to deny rino Kevin the Speakership. The leadership will be doing the bidding of the Bush globalist wing. The Liz Cheneys are promoted and protected and conservatives are dumped on. God bless you Matt.

Gaetz is a natural performer - - and he has a creative, comic wit. I'm sure he finds congress to be deadly dull - - and performing on TV to be very attractive.
He's a real fighter for our side - - much like Fightin' Roy Blunt - - and he'll serve us very well in front of a camera.

So what? I don’t care if you go to church or not, I don’t care if you proclaim to be a christian or not.....I want intelligence and a solid grasp of the constitution in my elected officials. I want people in Congress to actually be committed to working for the good of all citizens. I don’t care about some useless “litmus” test being applied to congressman over abortion, religious beliefs and/or church affiliation or membership in some club.
There are enough problems for elected officials or those who wish to be elected to deal with without some ridiculous “tests’ they supposedly have to pass to get elected. How many good people don’t run for public office due to having to deal with or respond to some of useless litmus tests mentioned above? Maybe, just maybe we should be electing candidates who have solid ideas on how to make this country better for all and not elect people just because they belong to some church.

Fame and fortune calls. One more Republican firebrand off to more lucrative pursuits. At least he will finish his term unlike Jason Chaffetz who abandoned his Utah constituents right after winning his second term in the House. Now seen regularly on Fox.

Matt Gaetz apparently has seen the true ugliness in representing the people of the United States of America. The real Americans will miss him. He has seen the appalling state of our government. I think his pursuing a different course in his life at 38 is admirable. He should be encouraged.

Rep. Matt Gaetz has served Florida and our country well... he is a great speaker and a great thinker. I believe he will make the right choice... with some advice from his wonderful parents, who have also served us well.

I haven't any interest in commentary from former members of Congress. I do not listen to any of them any longer. Even Gingrich has gotten boring. Gowdy and the Utah guy are totally irrelevant. I understand why Gaetz would change jobs. Being a member of the House is a job few would want. And he will get a lot more money at Newsmax.

Remember the last Florida Republican who did this? A guy who seemed to be a pretty solid conservative at the time but then got a taste of the celebrity kool aid a Gumby haircut, now one of the most despicable gasbags in television news.

He can see that DeSantis will be reelected governor, along with the two senators. Furthermore, he enjoys being in front of the camera and he's good at it.

UGH. Sorry, no amount of makeup will ever give this man a face for TV....don't care how smart he is. He needs to stay exactly where he is.

Second post. Apologies, but I just saw a piece in the Daily Mail about a sex-trafficking investigation involving a 17-year-old girl. Even if unfounded, the media would love to hang it around his neck as 2022 approaches.

Notice how the writer ALWAYS makes sure that the for "former" in the adjecive appended to the word "President".

According to New Clips, Matt is very close to President Trump and spends a lot of time at Mar A Lago. I would bet Trump advised Matt on this move (if this story is even true). I thought Matt would run for a Senate Seat in 2022. I think he's Sharp, Funny, well informed and Yes, I think he has a face and smile for TV! Somehow I just don't see him happy reading the news on Newsmax!

While I value Gaetz’s political views, there is just something about the man himself that makes me leery. Too slick. Too much like a snake oil salesman. Hope I’m wrong.
