Buried within the $1.9 trillion emergency spending bill that Congress sent to President Joe Biden's desk on Wednesday is a provision that could effectively block states from cutting taxes if they accept federal bailout dollars.
That provision, added to the bill by the Senate last week, could put a halt to several states' plans to cut taxes this year as a way to stimulate economic growth following the COVID-19 pandemic. Depending on how the text is interpreted, the measure could also make it illegal for states to create new tax credit programs like the ones that have become a popular mechanism for expanding school choice.

The red states could always spend it and use the Gonzales 'Come and Take It' option.

So basically you can't lower taxes, but if you have already wasted taxes on stupid and useless projects, you get more money?!?!?!?
Yeah, you can tell this is a huge pile of Demon-Rat pork!!!!

This could lead to an interesting U.S. Supreme Court decision.
Chief Judas John Roberts, in his first Obolacare decision, ruled that the federal government could not force states to expand Medicaid by cutting federal aid to any state that refused to expand medicaid..
It seems to me that the decision cited, would be referenced as precedent in the current kung flu law.

the democrat party is the party of taxation and nothing will change that. the one rule that overrides all others with regard to communist thought is to ruin your enemy economically because when a countries economy fails, nothing survives, nothing, so, without firing a shot you have defeated your enemy and to the democrats the people are the enemy and the republicans are the protectors of the people. one thing is imperative, the republicans must not cave to the democrats on this and must hold their ground.

I see lawsuits ahead. But the courts seem pretty weak, especially the Supreme Court. It appears someone is paying them off.

#6, 7. You both are correct. Democrats are lawless. They hold to no authority but their own. And it’s just not in the political arena. They believe they are the authority in every aspect of our lives. This is the very definition of tyranny. Each time we are reminded of this I can’t believe the United States of America, the world’s beacon of freedom will be extinguished by our own people. The evil political philosophy that has murdered hundreds of millions has now come in earnest for this country. We will experience an evil that has always been far from us, however, it is in our midst now. In the seat of government. Implemented by rabid ideologues and enacted by government flunkies. We are bombarded everyday with its message in every corner of our culture. Freedom is slipping through our fingers. What will be our response when the government tries to do more than tell our states what they can and cannot do. When the evil eye of tyranny looks us in the face and demands something we cannot or will not give. Democrats will not stop pushing forward. They are so close to their ultimate fantasy of totally transforming this country. They will not back down. The question for the rabid anti-freedom cabal is what will Americans do when pushed too far. Right now, I have no idea what will happen, but I believe any pushback from red states is a good thing. Many Americans will prefer to die on their feet than live on their knees.

On the plus side..... California, New York etc all are now stuck with the highest taxes in the land. Businesses and people will continue their exodus.
High taxes are counter productive when you don't have a population or business center to support them.

So now it’s official. We are no longer the United States of America. The states are merely quasi-autonomous
lands controlled by DC. I weep for our once great country.

Very clever. Looks like the Democrats want the red states to go bankrupt along with their own blue states so they too will be completely dependent on the federal government and thus forced to obey every goofy dictate they come up with. So for the time being, they will use the prosperous red states as cash cows to temporarily bail out the bankrupt blue (as in "financially dead") states. and then they'll kill off the red states too. Kind of like locusts.
How much longer are people going to put up with this insane crap? I mean seriously, is everyone munching Tide pods?

This is just the beginning of the Blue state steal ... from the Red states!
Feel you're being ignored in fly over country? Tough darts. Feel you're being taken advantage of by urban areas, all you rural folks? So what? Feel your kids are being deprived of your hard earned tax dollars so that yesterday's illegals get freebies yo' awl down in Texas, Florida, etc? Too bad.
The last time one fairly large group of 11 states felt they were getting screwed because they were outnumbered in Congress and their choice of president lost the nationwide election ... it didn't end well. For anyone. Before we end up in another shooting war --- I hope this one sided madness of dictatorial rule stops! It better stop!!
Say anything negative that you want about Blue state Dems and citidiots ... they stick together and ram their agenda you-know-where! We had both Houses of Congress too for Trump's entire first 2 years ... and accomplished nothing. Thanks Paul Ryan!

Should Taxpayers who voted in liberals get a tax break while they are living off taxpayers who do not live in their States? The Democrats may end up regretting this move.

Isn't that a states' rights issue? Why couldn't the city or county governments just have a series of Tax Free Weekends. That's when most working people shop. I'm thinking an ''after Easter'' or maybe a ''Memorial Day Weekend'' kinda thing. Hope I'm not giving away some state's secret. LOL

What constitution? The Federal government has long been taking our money and giving it back to the stated with conditions attached. Forgive me if I'm a little off but Illinois is about 3rd or 4th in tax revenue sent to Washington but I think it was 47th in what flows back. Why? Because we are sewed up in the democrat strangle hold and our money better serves as bribes to purchase votes in contested states. I keep looking but I can't seem to find that in the constitution.
Our freedoms and perceived government structure mean nothing when the tax code is used as a means of accomplishing that which can't be done through the legislative process.

This just shows how desperate the big blue states are. People are moving out of them in droves and voting with their feet. The mass exodus from blue states can give red states, low tax states an advantage. The left wing will stop at nothing to make their illogical thinking work!

The correct spelling is y'all. As in "you all" with the apostrophe serving as a replacement for 'ou'. It is a legitimate contraction. Please don't Yankee-fy it.
I say we do as the Democrats have taught us: just ignore any inconvenient law.

Note how Democrats barrel ahead with thread-bare majorities to enact every nutty law. In contrast, when the Republicans had a 30 seat majority in the House in 2017-18, they cowered in fear over displeasing the minority.

The federal government has no Constitutional authority over state tax legislation. It could supposedly withhold funds which the government has done in other instances.

Nothing new here... the democrats are the tax and spend party... WE the people know that...and WE are making adjustments to our spending and squirreling away treasures...I wouldn't count on the Supreme Court helping Americans... they've proven where they stand by their anti/american people rulings....obama is in charge... once again... and he will do anything to hurt America... he's proven that...so WE the people must ride this nightmare out for two years... till WE can take control of the house and senate...

Add the editors of Reason magazine to the list of Trump haters complaining about the harmful policies of the all-powerful Democrats they foolishly helped put in power. While Reason once espoused the libertarian philosophy it has slowly moved left, most obviously on the cultural issues but even, due to its contempt of Republicans, towards a de facto embrace of the Democrat Party.
To Reason I say stop your whining. You got what you wanted. The awful Trump is gone and the Democrats own completely all federal levers of power. Thanks for nothing.

Such socialist central planning removes input from American citizens and their particular States' considerations. The socialist dem pols are trying to secure & dictate their abhorrent leftist policies by dragging their central planning to their fenced enclave in the Capitol, far away from the States' domains and certainly the individual voters. This so called covid Bill has gigantic strings attached with which the conniving dems apparently intend to tighten around America.
